Auditions Announced for NIGHTMARE IN SUBURBIA at SSCC Theatre

SSCC_logoSSCC Theatre will hold auditions for the fall production of NIGHTMARE IN SUBURBIA, a world premiere farce by Richard Farmer.

Open to community members and students, auditions will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 23, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

In NIGHTMARE IN SUBURBIA, Tom, who just wants to spend a quiet weekend with his family, is quickly interrupted by a variety of characters including in-laws, an appliance technician, and a crazy uncle who wants to invade Russia… not to mention a burger that causes him stomach problems and nightmares.

Those interested in auditioning should prepare and memorize a comedic one- to two-minute monologue. Those interested in working on available crew positions will be asked to complete an interview the night of auditions.

If interested in auditioning, but unavailable to attend the audition date, please contact Director Rainee Angles (rangles@sscc.edu) to schedule an alternate audition date prior to August 23.

CHARACTERS:

  • EMMA THORNTON: A slightly daffy older lady with a warm heart.
  • AUDREY KESSELRING: Emma’s best friend, a sarcastic, middle-aged lady.
  • MIDGE DODGE: A small but energetic middle-aged woman. Must play chords on piano and sing.
  • BERYL OVERTON: A rather dim middle-aged woman.
  • OPALINE JONES: A pushy, suspicious middle-aged woman.
  • JOAN PARNELL: A young and pretty neighbor of Emma’s.
  • MAD JACK PARKER: A rather crude convict.
  • TERRY HOPKINS: Emma’s young and handsome nephew.
  • OFFICER KERNS: Barney Fife’s protégé.

A warm comedy about friendship, love, loss, and of course, FISHING. It all takes place on an old pier in the South Carolina back country. Three middle-aged friends relive their past and hash out the complexities of their lives at their favorite fishing spot from childhood.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

All characters are SOUTHERN. Bring your best corn-pone and sweet tea accent with you.

Curley, Gordon, Frog, and Curley’s slightly younger (1-2 years) sister Betty have all grown up together. The age-range is flexible, but they all have to LOOK reasonably the same age. 25 is too young; 60 is too old. WAAAAY too old. The target range is mid-to-late 30s, but that can be adapted depending on the best foursome.

  • Curley is the de-facto leader of the trio. He is better educated and more well-spoken than the other two. There is a maturity about him that Gordon and Frog lack.
  • Gordon is more of the good-ol’ boy type. He is an optimistic romantic. He also has an alcohol problem.
  • Frog is the most red-neck of the group. He is angry and short tempered and is ready to fight anybody, anytime.
  • Betty is the common denominator of the group. Besides being Curley’s sister, she is Gordon’s girlfriend and Frog’s ex-wife. She, like Curley is educated and well-spoken (she’s a teacher).

These are just quick stereotypes for you to think about. If you’re cast, you’ll be free to find your character’s voice yourself.

Auditions Announced for WINTERFEST at Kings Island

MISC_Kings Island logoKings Island is currently holding auditions for the 2019 Winterfest season.

  • SATURDAYS – 10am to 1pm through August 31st
  • SUNDAYS – Noon to 4pm through August 25th

ALL AGES ARE ENCOURAGED TO AUDITION.

ALL POSITIONS ARE PAID- Rates range from $92.00 to $110.00 per-night.

VOCALISTS

  • Please prepare two songs in a holiday, musical theatre or pop-style.
  • Piano accompaniment will be provided.  Pre-recorded accompaniment is also acceptable.

ACTORS

  • Please prepare a 2 minute, family-friendly monologue.

All applicants should bring a current resume, head shot and a complete list of availability from early November through December 31st.

Auditions will be held in the Human Resources building at Kings Island.

All applicants will be seen on a first come, first serve basis.  Reservations are not required.

Auditions Announced for WEEKEND COMEDY at Beechmont Players

Two couples, two generations, one weekend, one cabin…

A generational collision between two couples who’ve been double-booked into a weekend vacation rental provides laughter and a joyous look at marriage and happiness.

Auditions:

At Cherry Grove United Methodist Church
1428 Eight Mile Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45255

Four Performances:  December 5-7, 2019 at the Anderson Center Theater

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Cast: 

  • Frank and Peggy, a married couple in their early 50’s.
    • Frank is stodgy and complacent—happy with his life and his marriage, and not understanding why his wife has dragged them off to a cabin in the woods when they have a perfectly good house in the suburbs.
    • Peggy is frustrated and sarcastic.  Not…unhappy with her marriage, but wishing Frank could be more spontaneous and romantic.  Which is why they’re at a cabin in the woods.
  • Jill and Tony, an unmarried couple who’ve been living together for three years.
    • Tony is a handsome young man in his late 20’s.  Affluent, and enjoying the good life.  He’s single and sees no reason not to be.
    • Jill is an attractive young woman in her early 20’s.  She loves Tony, and is reconciled to just living together, since they are having so much fun.
