Auditions Announced for THE HALLELUJAH GIRLS at Troy Civic Theatre

TROY_logoDirector Beth Shrake is seeking 6 women and 2 men, age 30’s to 70’s, for the Jones, Hope, Wooten Southern comedy, THE HALLELUJAH GIRLS.

Hilarity abounds when the feisty females of Eden Falls, Georgia, decide to shake up their lives. Join the fun at the SPA-DEE-DAH, the abandoned church-turned-day-spa, where this group of friends gathers every Friday. After the loss of a dear friend, the women realize time is precious, and if they’re going to change their lives and achieve their dreams, they must do it now! The comic tension mounts when an ex-boyfriend shows up unexpectedly, a marriage proposal comes from an unlikely suitor, and Sugar Lee’s archrival vows she’ll stop at nothing to steal the spa away from her. Silliness and fun overflow as the women rally together to overcome these obstacles.

Sugar Lee is their high-spirited, determined leader. Carlene’s given up on romance, having buried three husbands. Nita’s a nervous wreck from running interference between her son and his probation officer. Mavis is bored with her marriage.
Sweet, simple Crystal entertains them all, singing holiday carols with her own hilarious lyrics.

Auditions: Monday, March 9 & Wednesday, March 11, 2020, from 7:00-9:00 pm at he Barn in the Park, Adams Street in Troy. Please note there are no auditions on Tuesday, March 10, due to a theatre board meeting.

Plan to read from the script and be prepared to list all your time conflicts between March 15 and May 10. If you’re auditioning for the role of Crystal, plan to sing two verses of a Christmas carol or a campfire-style song and play accompaniment on keyboard or guitar. All characters will need a Southern (Georgian) accent.

Experienced actors/actresses and first-timers welcome! Helpers are also needed for the production crew: set building, set painting, props, costumes, make-up/hair, publicity, and more.

The Hallelujah Girls will be performed May 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 2020, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm.

For more information, contact director Beth Shrake at 937-418-9749.

Auditions Announced for IT’S ONLY A PLAY at Beavercreek Community Theatre

bctBCT announces OPEN AUDITIONS for IT’S ONLY A PLAY by Terrence McNally

It’s the opening night of The Golden Egg on Broadway, and the wealthy producer Julia Budder is throwing a lavish party in her lavish Manhattan townhouse. Downstairs the celebrities are pouring in, but the real action is upstairs in the bedroom, where a group of insiders have staked themselves out to await the reviews. The group includes the excitable playwright; the possibly unstable wunderkind director; the pill-popping leading lady, treading the boards after becoming infamous in Hollywood; and the playwright’s best friend, for whom the play was written but who passed up this production for a television series. Add to this a drama critic who’s panned the playwright in the past and a new-in-town aspiring singer, and you have a prime recipe for the narcissism, ambition, childishness, and just plain irrationality that infuse the theatre—and for comedy. But don’t worry: This play is sure to be the hit they have all been hoping for.

Production Dates: April 24 – May 3, 2020
Directed by Debra Kent
Produced by Mary Mathieu

Audition Dates: Monday and Tuesday, March 2 and 3, 2020, at 7:00 p.m.
Beavercreek Community Theatre – 3868 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432

(NOTE: If you cannot attend auditions and need an earlier audition time, please contact the director.)

If you are not confident in this approach and would prefer to submit a video audition, then we are completely fine with this. You may email us a video audition by 5pm on Saturday, March 14th to jasonburgess@caststages.org. If you are unable to meet this deadline for the video submission, please email us and let us know and we might be able to make other accommodations.

As far as crew interviews are concerned, if you are not confident in this approach and would prefer to do a phone interview, we are completely fine with this. Please email us at jasonburgess@caststages.org and we will set up a time to do a phone interview with you.

As far as callbacks are concerned for PUFFS and NEWSIES, the production teams are working right now to figure everything out and we will have a definitive plan by the end of auditions tomorrow, Saturday, March 14th. At this moment, we plan on still holding callbacks next Saturday and posting all cast and crew lists on Tuesday, March 31st.
