Auditions Announced for HOME THEATRE at American Legacy Theatre

ALT_logoHOME THEATRE is a totally new approach to theatre never before seen in America and was launched virtually in the beginning of 2021. This approach will create 30 world premieres in 6 months.

Acting artists will meet 1:1 with community individuals and perform a 45-60 minute one-person show inspired by and cultivated from the 1:1 session. Acting artists will leverage the acquired techniques and process taught to them by American Legacy Theatre, and create alongside a director and up to five other artists working on their own production.

Need: American Legacy Theatre is seeking to hire a diverse unit of at least six (6) acting artists 3m, 3f of all ethnicities, races, and ages. The goal is that at least half of the 30 world premieres are based upon a person of color.

AUDITION FORMAT

  • Watch the video interview provided below by A.L.T. (Available on their website here.)

  • Create a 90-120 second piece inspired by the interview

  • Follow provided guidelines

Pay: $250/one-week production

Submissions Due:  July 24, 2021 at 11:59pm for first consideration

Learning Technical Process: August 9, 2021 – September 4, 2021. This will likely be done over four weeks. There is a fifth week producer option for those artists needing additional training through September 11. Presently this learning process is unpaid, but all acting artists successfully completing the training will be guaranteed at least one one-week production.

Rehearsal Weeks & Performances: Acting artists will be assigned to community members based upon request and need late September – December 2021.

NOTE: Acting artists will not work every week, so availability and flexibility are important on both A.L.T.’s end and the acting artist. Some acting artists may do seven productions while others may only do three. At this time we are looking for local artists in the Greater Cincinnati area and training will take place in person.

GUIDELINES
  1. Your piece must contain a verbatim moment from the interview.

  2. Your piece must have a beginning, middle, and end.

  3. Your piece must include one external production element: prop, lighting, etc.

  4. Your piece must include a minimum of two characters with clear definitive character choices.

  5. Your piece must be a minimum of 90 seconds and not exceed 120 seconds (2 minutes).

With the video, submit your headshot and resume in a single pdf, along with your conflicts August 2021- December 2021.

Auditions Announced for DADDY’S DYIN’: WHO’S GOT THE WILL? at Troy Civic Theatre

TROY_logoDirector Michael Schumacher is seeking 5 women and 3 men for the Del Shores dramedy, DADDY’S DYIN: WHO’S GOT THE WILL?

Monday & Tuesday, Aug. 2-3 at 7pm

Troy City Park (Adams Street, Across From Hobart Arena)
Troy, OH 45373

Set in a small Texas town in 1986, DADDY’S DYIN’ concerns the reunion of a family gathered to await the imminent death of their patriarch, who has recently suffered a physically as well as mentally disabling stroke. In essence, however, it is not the story of the impending demise of the father or of the drafting of his will, but of a rebirth of the spirit of the family unit. Without becoming ponderous, losing a sense of humor, or pandering to timeworn clichés about Texans, the story shares many elements of a good summer novel: it’s a fast, delicious, easy read with funny moments, tense moments, touching moments, and characters you care about.

CHARACTERS:

  • SARA LEE TURNOVER, 36, the middle sister. The town beautician, single and still lives at home. Strong-willed and has a wonderful sense of humor
  • LURLENE TURNOVER ROGERS, 42, the oldest sister. A preacher’s wife and elementary school teacher. Attractive, stylish, very Christian-but she has a bite
  • MAMA WHEELIS, 80, the Turnover children’s grand mother and Buford’s mother-in-law. She’s feisty, speaks her mind, and rules the household
  • EVALITA TURNOVER, 35, the youngest sister. Six-times married, loves to shock her family. She was a beauty-and still is from a distance. Has a worn look about her. A wounded soul
  • HARMONY RHODES, 28-40, Evalita’s latest fiancé. A musician and vegetarian. Attractive, laid-back Californian with a “flowerpower” vibe. Has a past
  • ORVILLE TURNOVER, 38, the brother. Abusive, unhappy, and mean. A redneck trash collector. Jealous of his wife’s recent weight loss.
  • BUFORD “DADDY” TURNOVER, 62-70, the father. A stroke victim who walks with a slight limp. Has occasional moments of coherency
  • MARLENE TURNOVER, 35-38, Orville’s wife. Temporarily overweight. A constant victim of Orville’s abuse. However, losing. sixty-two pounds can boost a girl’s confidence.

Plan to read from the script and be prepared to list all your time conflicts between August 4th and October 3rd. All characters, except Buford, sing on stage so you may be asked to sing a hymn or Christmas song at auditions. The characters of Evalita, Harmony and Marlene all have scenes involving on-stage kissing. All characters, except Harmony will need a Southern (Texas) accent.

Experienced actors/actresses and first-timers welcome! Helpers are also needed for the production crew: set building, set painting, props, costumes, make-up/hair, publicity, and more.

  • Shoes and clothing appropriate for a dance audition

ABOUT THE SHOW:
Based on the Oscar-winning film and powered by a disco beat, this wildly fresh and funny musical is the hilarious adventure of three friends, two drag queens and a transsexual woman, who hop aboard a battered old bus named Priscilla, that is bound for Alice Springs in the middle of Australia to put on the show of a lifetime. With a dazzling array of outrageous costumes and a hit parade of dance floor favorites including “It’s Raining Men,” “I Will Survive,” “Hot Stuff,” “Boogie Wonderland,” “Go West,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and “I Love The Nightlife,” their epic journey is a heart-warming story of self-discovery, sassiness and acceptance.

CASTING REQUIREMENTS:
CMT is looking for a large, diverse cast for this production. BIPOC and LGBTQ+ performers are encouraged to audition. All roles are open.

These roles include:

  • Bernadette – an older transsexual woman and former showgirl has little patience for prejudiced or bullying. Must sing and dance well.
  • Tick – caught between the life of a drag queen and his undiscovered life as husband and father. His personal journey centers on self-discovery and the resolution of his inner conflict. Must sing well.
  • Adam – a young, gay drag queen who makes his way through life by manipulating his mother into giving him money, antagonizing other people, and making a spectacle of himself. A strong singer and dancer.
  • Bob – an aging mechanic who rescues Priscilla, the stranded tour-bus and her motley crew. Bob is very down to earth upon encountering our unlikely trio and responds to them with nonchalant respect.
  • The  Divas – Three powerhouse singers who serve as a kind of Greek chorus and belt out show stopping renditions of “It’s Raining Men” “I Will Survive” “Go West” and “MacArthur Park” among others.
  • Shirley – A lonely older bar keeper who is looking for love and sings a hilarious version of “I Love The Nightlife”
  • Marion – Tick’s wife who runs the casino where the three are headed to perform.
  • Cynthia – Bob’s Filipino wife who performs a sexy nightclub routine at the local bar, much to Bob’s embarrassment. Must be able to sing and dance well.
  • Miss Understanding – A drag queen who does a terrific “live” Tina Turner.
  • Jimmy – A sophisticated aborigine who makes his living by wearing native garb and posing for pictures with tourists.
  • Ensemble- An ensemble of sixteen men and women who are the backbone of the show. This high energy ensemble of strong singers and dancers appear in a dozen numbers in the show.

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE:
Priscilla Queen of The Desert opens November 12 and runs through November 20, 2021 at Aronoff Center Jarson-Kaplan Theater. Rehearsals will begin September 1.

Priscilla Queen of The Desert is produced by Kathy Beiting and directed by Skip Fenker with choreography by Mike Fielder, music direction by Kendra Struthers, and fabulous costuming by Elaine Michael and Catherine Ross.
