MOAN ALONE Dinner Theatre Event Opens Oct. 8

BTPE_Moan Alone logoZombies and October go together like peanut butter and jelly- candy and costumes- carmel and apples! Come out and see the hilarious new dinner theatre comedy, MOAN ALONE by Mark Aloysius Kenneally. The show runs October 8 – 22, 2021.

We all know that Zombies spend day in and day out seeking human brains to chow down on. But– How would they spend their time if they were stuck in a cabin on Halloween night, in a freak blizzard, hundreds of miles away from the nearest human brain? Laugh the night away in a show that has been compared to a comedy muddle up between the television show FRIENDS and the cinematic classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

This COVID safe production requires masks and will continue with the COVID menu in the same fashion as our show last spring. All actors and staff have been vaccinated. Continuing our shows and keeping our patrons safe is importand to us.

Auditions Announced for RIPCORD at Mariemont Players

MPI_logo 2020The Mariemont Players and director Becky Collins are happy to announce auditions for the March 2022 production of RIPCORD.

Audition Information​

Dates

  • Thursday, October 7th, 7 pm – 9pm
  • Sunday, October 10th, 1pm – 3pm

Location

  • Mariemont Players, Walton Creek Theater, 4101 Walton Creek Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45227

Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script. For advance copies of the sides please contact director Becky Collins at beckykcollins@gmail.com.

The director will also accept video auditions of a prepared comedic monologue, submitted by October 10th. To submit a video audition please email the video to the director and include your name, preferred roles, and contact information.​

Vaccination Policy

Please note: The Mariemont Players requires all actors to be fully vaccinated before attending auditions, rehearsals, and performances. All production crew members must also be fully vaccinated before joining a production.

Synopsis

For 4 years, irritable and sarcastic Abby Binder has kept a room to herself at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, through sheer force of her rude personality. Nursing disappointment at the direction her life has taken, she has no room for distraction. When bubbly, bright, and unbearably cheerful Marilyn Dunne is placed in her room, Abby tries her usual tricks, but fails to scare her annoying new roommate away. Abby resorts to new tricks taking place in haunted houses, sky dives, Craigslist, and the local park. Ripcord is an enemies-to-friends story.

Set in contemporary New Jersey (accent not required), we are aspiring to cast a diverse and representative group of actors. Previous acting experience is not required. Please contact Becky Collins with any accommodation requests or questions.​

Characters

  • Abby Binder: She/her, 60-90+
    Abby is a blunt, no-nonsense, stern resident at Bristol Place Senior Living; she uses her biting humor to prohibit people from getting close to her; her past has left her with a simmering bitterness; roommates with Marilyn; wants the room to herself and will get it by any means necessary.
  • Marilyn Dunne: She/her, 60-90+
    Abby’s chipper, chatterbox roommate at Bristol Place Senior Living; a warm and pleasant personality who always means the best; her strength lies in her ability to always keep her chipper cool, even in extreme situations; ultimately, she is looking for a friend.
  • Benjamin/Lewis/Clown: He/his, 30-49
    Benjamin: The estranged son of Abby; reclusive and shy; rough around the edges; a former addict who has relapsed many times; he is trying to make a better life and comes to make amends with his mother. Lewis: Marilyn’s son, who is also a skydiving instructor; knowledgeable and lively. Clown: An actor in a haunted house who plays an evil clown that tries to steal and eat a baby.
  • Scotty: He/his, 20-39
    A bright, dedicated, and committed resident aide at Bristol Place Senior Living; an aspiring actor; he is trying to do his job to the best of his ability, but he will not shy away from putting their foot down with Marilyn when needed.
  • Colleen/Woman in White: She/her, 30-49
    Colleen: The bright, sunny, lighthearted, perky, quirky, and caring daughter of Marilyn and wife of Derek; high-energy like her mother, but with more fierceness; will go to extreme lengths to help her mother win the room and to gain a friend. Woman in White: An actress in a haunted house who is trying to save her baby from the Clown.
  • Derek/Zombie Butler/Masked Man: He/his, 30-49
    Derek: Colleen’s other half, literally and figuratively; more realistic and reserved than his wife; always cautious and worried. Zombie Butler: An actor who is leading the haunted house tour. Also plays Masked Man.

This audition is open to all people, ages, and talents!

Whether you see yourself as a beginner who only sings in the shower and dances in the kitchen, or you’ve performed with us before, everyone is welcome on our stage. We want you to show us what you’ve got for a chance to be a part of TCT’s modern telling of this classic story we all know and love.

Morning and Afternoon performances during school days. Morning, afternoon and evening performances Friday-Sunday.

  • AUNT EM: Female Identifying, Dorothy’s Aunt. Life has not been easy for her and promises little else. Harsh towards Dorothy at times, but acts out of love.
  • DOROTHY: Female Identifying, Bright eyed and alive as can be. Would rather remain a child as long as possible instead of accepting the responsibilities of adulthood.
  • UNCLE HENRY: Male Identifying, Dorothy’s Uncle. Physically run-down from years of hard work on the farm. Often acts as the voice of reason towards Aunt Em.
  • ADDAPERLE: Any gender identity, any age, Good Witch of the North. Has magic powers they refer to as “doing tricks.” Their magical abilities don’t always pan out as well as they would like them to.
  • SCARECROW: Any gender identity, any age, Tired of being a scarecrow and the prospect of not going anywhere. Embarks on the journey to see The Wiz in hopes they can provide a brain.
  • TIN MAN: Any gender identity, any age,  Human at one time. Lost all their limbs to a cursed axe. Joins in the journey in hopes the Wiz will provide them a heart because “it isn’t enough to be good looking.”
  • LION: Any gender identity, any age, Travels around the jungle scaring people, but has “a yellow streak a mile wide.” Coward state stems from deeper mother issues and gets. Joins in the journey to see the wiz to gain some courage.
  • THE WIZ: Any gender identity, any age, All-powerful leader over the land of Oz. Hides their true nature behind the façade of a temperamental leader. Their true identity is an enigma.
  • EVILLENE: Any gender identity, any age, Wicked Witch of the West. Low-down evil. Not a kind bone in their body nor kind thought in their rotten mind.
  • GLINDA: Any gender identity, any age, Good Witch of the South. Prettiest of all the witches. Very wise in the way of show-business.
  • ENSEMBLE: A group of Adults, Teens, and children to play a wide variety of characters and features including munchkins, Citizens of Oz, Gatekeeper, Lord High Underling, Winged Monkeys and understudy principal roles.  Seeking extremely strong and versatile Dancer, Singer, Actors.
