Know Theatre’s 22nd Season Continues with the Return of the Monday Night Theatre Party SERIALS!

KTC_Serials 10Know Theatre’s 22nd Season continues with the return of the Monday night theatre party…
SERIALS! 10: THUNDERDOME
Jan 20th, Feb 8th, Feb 17th, Mar 2nd and Mar 16th
12 brand new plays enter…you vote who leaves

SERIALS!, Know Theatre’s iconic Monday night theatre party, returns for its triumphant 10th iteration this winter. Taking over our Underground performance space will be an eclectic group of familiar friends and new faces with entirely new stories to tell. Each week 5 plays take the stage with 15 minute episodes written, directed, and performed by local artists.

At the end of the night you decide which 3 plays will move on to the next week and which 2 are banished to a dystopian theatrical wasteland! But, never fear, all of the banished plays have the chance to come back at the end of Week 4, when the audience votes to resurrect two productions to perform one last time in Week 5.

We call it a theatre party because everyone gets to participate. The local artists get to make exciting, fast paced, new art and the audience decides which shows they would love to see more of. If you’ve never been, you’re missing out on all of the electric energy shared between everyone there. So, come out and use your vote to decide the winner this delightful theatrical deathmatch!

All of this is possible, because of the amazing pool of talent here in Cincinnati. We have 12 amazing teams putting together this completely original and inventive productions. Here they are:

THE LION KING Quick Review

THE LION KING presented by Broadway in Cincinnati through Feb. 2. I attended the opening Thursday night performance.

Disney’s THE LION KING has been running on Broadway for over 22 years and touring since 2002. Based on the animated movie, Tony-award winning director and costume designer Julie Taymor’s imaginative and ground-breaking stage adaptation continues to enthrall audiences of all ages. Such was the case with last night’s fourth engagement at Cincinnati’s Aronoff Center.

Visually the show is stunning. The costumes, the masks, the puppetry, the sets…I think you get the idea. It is a theatrical experience like no other. The quality of the performances always impresses as these iconic roles continue to attract a cast of top notch performers.

My rating: 5 out of 5.

A note to parents: While the run time of the animated film is under 90 minutes, the stage adaption (with intermission) can come close to the three hour mark. Judge your children’s attention span accordingly.

Cincinnati Artist’s Theatre Teams with Clifton Players to Present Inaugural Production

IMG_3643The Clifton Players have officially joined forces with Cincinnati Artist’s Theatre, a newly formed collective of Cincinnati-based theatre artists led by CCM Alumni Landon Hawkins, Gabriella DiVencenzo, and Ella Eggold.

In January, CAT will present three performances of TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND (30 Plays in 60 minutes).

Having opened in 1988 and still playing today as the longest-running show in Chicago history, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind is an ensemble experiment in presenting “30 Plays in 60 Minutes.” Each two-minute play is performed in random order with an interactive audience. An onstage 60-minute timer keeps everyone honest.

This absurd piece written by Greg Allen and The Neo-Futurists is the first play performed by Cincinnati Artist’s Theatre (CAT). The members of CAT have been working in the Cincinnati artistic community for years, but this will be their first performance as a collective. They’ve teamed with some of the founding members of the Clifton Players to bring you a season of incredible work at The Liberty Exhibition Hall in Northside. Let the madness begin!

The cast includes: Brianna Bernard, Gabriella DiVencenzo, Landon Hawkins, Graham Lutes & Carter Lacava.

Performances are January 18, 20, and 24 at 8pm. Performances take place at the Liberty Exhibition Hall, 3938 Spring Grove Avenue in Northside.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students/ artists and can be purchased online at
https://toomuchlightcincy.bpt.me/.

Visit Cincinnati Artist’s Theatre online at www.cincinnatiartiststheatre.org.
