Congratulations to Charlie Roetting, Lecturer of Improv and Acting in the Theatre & Dance Program, for being named Artistic Director of OTRImprov! Charlie has been acting, directing, and improvising on stages and screens on both coasts and Cincinnati for over a decade.
The first series was such a hit, we decided to make another round of videos! We will be releasing six MORE short plays on video as part of: HOME VIEW THEATRE: Series II!
Some will be filmed on stage, some on location as short films, and some even recorded as a “Zoom Play” written for that format.
Tickets are $5 for each video, or you can buy the series of six for $25.

HOME VIEW THEATRE SERIES II
THE RULES
A romantic comedy by Jessie Faye. As they prepare for a first date, a man and woman reflect on societal pressure, self-doubt, and the complexities of the perfect outfit. TDW is excited to welcome Jeff and Maddy Weinkam to their TDW debut. They will play the couple, and Jeff is directing. The Rules will premiere on February 12 just in time to share with your loved one on Valentine’s Day weekend.
Vis:Us
A collection of monologues written by a group of TDW artists who began a writer’s group during their pandemic downtime. Each monologue, performed by its author, explores how people try to make connections with others during the pandemic. The group of actor/playwrights consists of Chris Bishop, Betsy Bossart, Stephanie Klein, Lindsey Pullum, Fred Tacon and Eric Thomas. Vir:Us will premiere February 26.
SECOND STORY JOBS
A comedy by Fred Tacon that portrays what happens when an extremely overworked tooth fairy visits an adult man. The video will be directed by Lynne Aronson and feature Michael Sharon and Rusty Lacey. Second Story Jobs premieres March 12.
GOODWILL A play by Teri Foltz. While clearing out the garage after their mother’s death, a brother and sister learn of a family secret. The cast includes Linda Callahan and Steve Phelan under the direction of Julie Jordan. Goodwill premieres March 26.
INDIAN SIGN
Indian Sign is a drama by Clint Bramkamp in which conflict arises between a man leading a campaign to keep a twenty-eight-foot sign depicting an outdated view of Native Americans in place and a Native American activist who wants to see the sign taken down. Richard Zenk directs the cast which features Jessie Faye and John McInerney. Indian Sign premieres April 9.
I’M BLOODY RETIRED
A comedy by Eric Thomas. Retiring Detective Sergeant Royal is given one last assignment – to train rookie Detective Francis – and one last case — to finally bring down his arch-nemesis . Dennis Murphy will direct and play Detective Royal. The cast also includes Nicholas Dunker, Lindsey Pullum, Chirs Bishop and others. I’m Bloody Retired premieres April 23.
The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati is looking for children to make a splash this summer and audition for the company’s celebrated summer STAR Program. As an added bonus this year, all STAR NKU students will have the opportunity to participate in a full-length production of THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL.
Adapted from the iconic Nickelodeon series, the stakes are higher than ever in the staged production, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage.
Producing Artistic Director, Roderick Justice said, “In lieu of our annual one-act festival, I am excited to bring the entire STAR NKU program together with one big Broadway musical. Additionally, we plan to give students a 360-degree experience of the entire process of producing a show and how it happens behind the scenes.
The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau.

Children ages 9-18 (going into their Senior year of High School) can now begin preparing submissions to audition for the renowned STAR Intensive NKU and STAR Camp Red Bank programs with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. Auditions will be held electronically via video submissions. Registration and video submissions will be accepted through Monday, February 8, 2021.
You MUST register online and include a youtube link (marked as unlisted) in the registration. PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR VIDEO AUDITION. If you need to cancel or make changes, please follow the link in your registration email. Multiple slots for a single actor will be cancelled. You will need to register for a specific time which will be used for internal purposes only, DO NOT REPORT TO TCT IN PERSON.
Your video submission MUST include:
A memorized, age-appropriate monologue (1 minute MAX). It should showcase your acting skills.
A memorized 16-bar song selection that best shows your vocal range. Please sing with piano accompaniment (if you would like a custom track, you may reach out to Matt Umphreys at mattumphreys@gmail.com as he can create piano tracks and help with adjusting keys for a small fee.) Please do not sing along with other voices.
Upon online registration, you MUST upload a RECENT picture and a theatrical resume in PDF or WORD format.
You should only submit ONE link with your song and monologue. Do not break them out into two separate links.
ABOUT STAR INTENSIVE NKU: Our STAR Intensive NKU program is a four-week training program for students, ages 9-18. Students are accepted by audition only and will work with leading professionals in the theatre business to help them become well-rounded performers in all areas of musical theatre. The intensive culminates in a musical theatre showcase featuring some of the most popular songs from the Broadway repertoire as well as a fully produced One-Act Play festival! STAR Intensive NKU participants will have the opportunity to be considered for additional high-level training in our Academy through our invitation-only classes.
When: July 5 – August 1, 2021, weekdays 10 AM to 4 PM at Northern Kentucky University*
Tuition: $660
Security deposit of $160 due upon acceptance into the program. Payment plans and scholarships are available.
ABOUT STAR CAMP RED BANK: STAR Camp Red Bank is our program for gifted and talented students who are advanced in some areas of musical theatre and who have progressed beyond the basic levels of training. For three weeks in July, a select number of students will work with leading professionals in the theatre business to help them improve and become well-rounded performers in all areas of musical theatre. STAR Red Bank culminates in a musical theatre showcase featuring some of the most popular songs and scenes from the Broadway repertoire!
