FLY BABIES Zoom Reading on Feb. 6

BPI_logoBeechmont Players is holding another ZOOM play reading on SATURDAY afternoon, February 6th from 2-4pm.(Our usual Sunday afternoon performance time was pre-empted by the Superbowl!)  It is a historical drama by playwright Rusty Harding.

Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81577577233?pwd=a09xT2hQTStYUjZJMFNOUDg4b1FRQT09

ZOOM readings aren’t the same as live, but they provide a great chance to experience unknown shows, practice your acting skills, and socialize with your theater buddies.  And we hope they’ll be a reminder of why we started working with Beechmont Players in the first place!

FLY BABIES
1943. WWII is raging.  Five young American women, all qualified pilots, lend their skills to the newly created Women’s Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs); Dotty, the wide-eyed farm girl; Peggy, the spoiled heiress; Pauline, the seasoned barnstormer; Hazel, the Asian-American who has already witnessed the horrors of war; and Mazy, the African-American who is fighting her own war against prejudice.  All five come together on the desolate plains of West Texas, where they experience the challenge, the triumphs, and the tragedies of serving their country on the home front.  And where they quickly discover that not all battles are fought overseas…

The cast for FLY BABIES is:

  • Teresa Knauer – Old Dorothy “Dotty” Lewis—age 80+
  • Jen Davis – Young Dorothy “Dotty” Moore—age 20-25
  • Nisrene Langenna – Lucy Powell—age 20-25 (Dorothy’s great-granddaughter)
  • Susan Smith – Mazy Buford—age 25-30, African-American.
Doubles Diane Greely, age 20-25, Mazy’s granddaughter
  • Erin Marie Schwartz – Pauline Yates—age 30-35
    Doubles Nurse—age 30-35
  • Carrie Knauer – Hazel Ying—age 25-30, Asian-American
  • Lacey Prewitt Parsons – Peggy Taylor—age 20-25
  • Mary Anne Fagel – Jackie Cochran—age 35-40 (Leader of the WASPs)
  • James Christian Jr. – Sergeant “Louie” Lewis—age 20-25
  • Tim Rogers – Captain John Whitaker—age 25-35
  • Peter Weiglin – Colonel Thomas Evans—age 50-60

Note that some actors are playing ethnic or cultural stereotypes which are not the same as their own.  Many of the attitudes may seem artificial or offensive to our modern sensibilities.  That’s why they call it acting!
