Mason Players Celebrates America with 1776

Mason Community Players’ 1776 opens on July 10th. What a great opportunity to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The talents of 30 cast members will bring the founding fathers to life under the direction of Robert Terry.

This classic American musical chronicles the fight for liberty as John Adams (Tony Bergman), Benjamin Franklin (David Abbot), and Thomas Jefferson (Justin Hanks) embolden a deadlocked Continental Congress.

Though it is hardly a secret how it all turns out, revisiting this historic “moment in time” through song, humor, romance, pathos, and nail-biting tension, is exhilarating.

Performances are July 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 at 8pm, and July 12 at 2pm at the Mason Community Playhouse, 5529 Mason Road in Mason.

Auditions Announced for DECISION HEIGHT at Mason Community Players

Director Trish Cooper and Producer Laureen Catlin are holding auditions for Decision Height.

This homage to the women pilots of WWII is the Fighting portion of Mason Players’ celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation for its season of FIGHTING for Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The show tells the story of the Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs) who served in World War II assisting the men who were fighting.

The cast includes roles for 7 women age 20s-30s and 2 women age 40+.

Auditions will be held:

  • Sunday, July 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, and
  • Tuesday, July 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM

Mason Community Playhouse – 5529 Mason Road in Mason.

If you would like to be a part of the show, but cannot make it to auditions, or have any questions regarding the auditions or the production, please send an e-mail to masonplayers@masonplayers.org.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
Performers from all cultural backgrounds are welcomed to the cast.
Those wishing to audition should complete an online form. (See the last sentence.)
Headshots/resumes are welcome but not required. All roles are available.

Decision Height will be performed October 2, 3, 8, 9, & 10 at 8:00 PM and October 4 at 2:00 PM at the Mason Community Playhouse.

Auditions Announced for COMPANY at Fairfield Footlighters

Fairfield Footlighters is excited to hold auditions for COMPANY

Audition dates will be July 6th and 7th 6:00pm-9:00pm 
Callbacks, if needed, will be July 8th 6:00pm-9:00pm 

Auditions and callbacks will be held at the Fairfield Community Arts Center – 411 Wessel Dr. Fairfield. OH 45014

Please sign up for an audition time HERE! You will need to prepare a 45-60 second cut of music in the style of the show(songs from the show are acceptable). Tracks only- no accompanist will be provided. Please bring an accompaniment track or email the track ahead of time (either youtube link or mp3 file with time stamps) to colantmj@gmail.com. Subject line: “First Name Last Name Company Audition Music” We will have a bluetooth speaker to connect to. Please arrive early as you will need to fill out an audition form. Headshot and resume appreciated, but not required. Come prepared with any scheduling conflicts from July 27- Septmeber 27.

ABOUT THE SHOW

From musical theatre’s most renowned composer, Company is largely regarded as a trailblazer of the dark-comedy, modern-musical genre and the winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Lyrics and Best Book.

On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor, Robert, contemplates his unmarried state. Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks and even a wedding, his friends – “those good and crazy people [his] married friends” – explain the pros and cons of taking on a spouse. The habitually single Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood during a hilarious array of interactions.

  • Robert
    The story’s protagonist, he is a keen observer who appears happy but holds pain in his heart. He is the only one of his friends still single. Terrified of marriage and fears a lifelong loneliness.

    Harry’s hyper critical wife. She is an avid learner of karate and tends to overeat. Open, accepting, and full of love.

  • Harry
    Sarah’s husband. He is a recovering alcoholic continually falling off the wagon. Believes the advantages of marriage outweigh the disadvantages.

    Age: 30 to 45
  • Susan
    A delicate southern belle. Peter’s wife and ex-wife. Motherly in her affections towards Robert.
    Gender: female
    Age: 25 to 35

  • Peter
    Susan’s husband. The perfect husband and ex-husband. He is very liberal in his view of relationships.

  • Jenny
    Quietly manipulative, simultaneously square and wise. Loves her husband, David, and will indulge him from time to time.

    Age: 30 to 45
  • David
    Jenny’s husband, he is relaxed and always in control. Believes a man should be married and that the sacrifice of freedom is worth what you get in return.

  • Amy
    A frantic neurotic engaged to Paul but terrified of marriage. After a mental breakdown, she finally realizes that Paul is, in fact, her soulmate.

  • Paul
    Amy’s fiancé. Mildly clingy, but patient to her neurotic nature. He is fully committed to the idea of marriage and encourages Robert to do the same.

  • Joanne
    Acerbic, demanding, and blunt. Too old to be part of the young crowd, but not old enough to be part of the older crowd. Puts on a brassy front that melts when she is alone with her husband.

  • Larry
    Joanne’s husband. He is stoic and centered, but has moments of goofiness. Indulges his wife’s behavior but knows when to put his foot down.

    Age: 45 to 65
  • Marta
    A girlfriend of Robert’s. Intensely modern, who is seeking adventure and excitement in the City.
    Gender: female
    Age: 25 to 35
  • Kathy
    An old girlfriend of Robert’s, who is now considered a good friend. She plans to leave the City for a life of domesticity. Sweet and loving.

  • April
    A girlfriend of Robert’s. She is a flight attendant who came to New York to live in Radio City. Ditzy and adorable.

Show Synopsis: 
The Game’s Afoot (Holmes for the Holidays), is a comedy thriller set in December 1936. The story revolves around Broadway star William Gillette, who is famous for his role as Sherlock Holmes. Gillette invites his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of Christmas fun and festivities. However, the weekend takes a dark turn when one of the guests is mysteriously stabbed to death. In this isolated house filled with tricks and mirrors, Gillette must use his Sherlock Holmes persona to track down the killer before another victim appears. The play is filled with non-stop danger and laughter, making it a thrilling and entertaining experience.

Character Descriptions:

Please note that the age ranges listed below are approximate and represent a general “age look” that may be required. 

  • William Gillette (Sherlock): (late 40’s-mid 50’s, male presenting) A Broadway star, famous for his role as Sherlock Holmes. He is charming, witty, and has a commanding presence. William invites his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of fun and festivities.
    ***Please note: requires lifting/dragging a dead woman to try to hide her. Also, there is a moment of proximity to an actress where a kiss almost happens.
  • Martha Gillette: (late 60’s to late 70’s, female presenting) William’s doting mother. Her New England accent and mannerisms are indicative of her place in high society, but she is a sweet and caring woman who is always concerned about her son’s well-being.
  • Felix Geisel (Moriarty): (mid 40’s- mid 50’s, male presenting) William’s best friend and fellow actor. He is a bit of a jokester and always tries to lighten the mood with his humor.
    ***Please note: requires lifting/dragging a dead woman to try to hide her. Required to perform an “over-the-top” kiss with a female actor.
  • Madge Geisel (Marian): (mid 40’s – mid 50’s, female presenting) Felix’s wife and another member of the acting troupe. She is strong-willed and has a no-nonsense attitude.
  • Aggie Wheeler (Alice): (mid to late 20’s, female presenting) A young, beautiful actress who is part of the cast. She is charming and has a mysterious air about her. 
    ***Please note: Requires a close romantic moment of proximity to a male actor where you try to kiss him, but you are interrupted.
  • Simon Bright (Zerlinsky): (late 20’s- early 30’s, male presenting) Aggie’s boyfriend and a fellow actor. He is handsome, charismatic, and deeply in love with Aggie. He appears to be a little dim-witted at times.
  • Daria Chase: (late 40’s -late 50’s, female presenting) A theater critic who is known for her sharp tongue and biting reviews. Glamourous, gorgeous, (and she knows it) and aside from her cattiness, she has a sense of humor. She has built her career from the ground up. Daria is invited to the castle for the weekend and adds an element of tension to the group.
    ***Please note: Requires a brief “over- the- top kiss” on the lips with a male actor. Daria is dragged by two male actors and hidden. This is a comedy, so there will be a lot of lifting, dragging and bumbling and basic silliness by the two male actors and yourself as they try to hide you as quickly as they can.
  • Inspector Goring: (mid 40’s -mid 50’s, female presenting) A local police inspector, called to the castle to investigate the murder. She is intelligent, observant, and determined to solve the case.

These people-skills-challenged individuals find themselves stuck in each other’s company, but they manage…until a dead body appears. And it’s just the first. Alone on this barren island, these four loners must work together to solve the mysteries of the dead, the Lights, and each other.
