Two gangs in a fictitious city populated only by children are in a rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan’s gang has gotten the upper hand since acquiring the “splurge” gun (a weapon that shoots whip cream). Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust into the limelight when he becomes the last chance Fat Sam’s gang has of surviving. All Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love, Blousey… but that just isn’t in the cards for our hero.

COMPANY Runs July 18-21

WCCST_Company logoCOMPANY
Wilmington College Community Summer Theatre
July 18-21
[Wilmington]

Directed by Wynn Alexander
Music direction by Matt Spradlin
Choreography by Cole Haugh

Cast: Bryan Wallingford as Bobby, Bekah Wall as Sarah, Matt Purkey as Harry, Tricia Heys as Jenny, Andrew Conarroe as David, Gina Beck as Susan, Timothy Larrick as Peter, Kate Koch as Amy, Kevin Wall as Paul, Cherie Cooper-Darragh as Joanne, Steven Haines as Larry, Abby Smith as April, Jessica Fair as Marta & Jessica Yankel as Kathy

Company, with music by Sondheim and book by George Furth, takes place on the night of Bobby’s all-important “30-something” birthday. Bobby, a long confirmed single, contemplates what it means to be alone. Over the course of a series of remembered dinners, drinks and even a wedding, friends explain the pros and cons of taking on a spouse. Bobby is forced to question “the tick-tock” of what it means to be unmarried. Sondheim’s Company is largely regarded as a trailblazer of the dark-comedy, modern-musical genre, and features a brilliantly brisk and energetic score containing many of the composer’s best-known songs.

Auditions Announced for THE 39 STEPS at Lebanon Theatre Company

LTC_logoTHE 39 STEPS
Producers – Kate Edington & Kevin Stout
Director – Paula Whitaker

Auditions will be cold readings from the script; sides will be provided at auditions.

Auditions will be held at 10 S. Mechanic St., Lebanon, OH.Sun.
July 14, 2pm & Mon. July 15, 7pm

Rehearsals will begin Monday, August 1. Typical rehearsals are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.

Synopsis
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have the intriguing, thrilling, riotous and unmissable comedy. The show hurtles a notorious fugitive and a spellbound blonde from a London music hall north by northwest to Scotland’s most remote highlands. Will they save Britain from a den of devious spies? This is a fast-paced tale of an ordinary man on an extraordinarily entertaining adventure.

Roles
One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, one actress plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors, identified only as Clown 1 and Clown 2, play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women and even the occasional inanimate object.

This requires true skill, facility with multiple dialects (and genders), lightning fast quick-changes, and, occasionally, the ability to play multiple characters at the same time or within the same scene.

  • RICHARD HANNAY……….male, age late 30’s to early 40’s.
  • ANABELLA SCHMIDT / PAMELA / MARGARET……….female; age 25-35; German, Scottish, and English dialects.
  • CLOWN ONE……….any adult age range; Standard/RP English, North of England, Scottish, and German dialects.
  • CLOWN TWO……….any adult age range; Standard/RP English, North of England, Scottish, and German dialects.
