Auditions Announced for DEATHTRAP and I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE at The Drama Workshop

Auditions for The Drama Workshop Fall Shows

TDW_VERT(Cheviot, OH) The Drama Workshop, the award-winning community theatre company based at The Glenmore Playhouse in Cheviot, is pleased to announce audition dates for its first two productions of the 2015-2016 season.

Auditions for the murder mystery thriller DEATHTRAP will be held Monday, May 4th, and Tuesday, May 5th.

Auditions for the musical I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE will be held the following week, on Monday, May 11th, and Tuesday, May 12th. Callbacks for I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE will be Monday, May 18th, if necessary. There are no callbacks scheduled for DEATHTRAP.

Auditions will be held at The Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave, Cheviot, OH 45211. Start time for all auditions is 7 pm; auditions will run no later than 9 pm, and may end earlier depending on the number of participants. Resumes and headshots are recommended. Doors will open each evening of auditions no later than 6:30 pm.

DEATHTRAP recounts the tale of a down-on-his-luck playwright, whose student tells him he has written the perfect suspense play and will bring it to the playwright’s Connecticut home. The suspense over whether the playwright will kill the student and take credit for his play forms the crux of this now-classic thriller. The show is written by Ira Levin, directed by Joe Penno, and produced by Ray Persing. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script singly and in groups.

I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE is a celebration of the mating game that takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as ‘the relationship.’ Covering the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage to the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set, this hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, and to those who have dared to ask, ‘Say, what are you doing Saturday night?’ The show’s book and lyrics are by Joe DiPietro, with music by Jimmy Roberts. TDW’s production is directed by Linda Abbott, and produced by Dennis Murphy and Elaine Volker. In addition to a resume and headshot, auditioners should prepare a 32-bar selection from a musical theatre piece, and bring the necessary sheet music. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and vocal performance based on order of arrival. An accompanist will be provided. No CDs will be allowed.

Additional information on the parts for each show, as well as forms for actors wishing to audition, are posted on The Drama Workshop’s website at www.thedramaworkshop.org/auditions.

Special Events Featured at The Glenmore Playhouse

TDW_VERT(Cheviot, OH) The Drama Workshop is pleased to welcome guest performers on April 10 and 11, 2015 to The Glenmore Playhouse at 3716 Glenmore Ave in Cheviot.

On April 10th, TDW welcomes The Middle Child Improv Troupe, one of the premiere improvisational theatre groups in the greater Cincinnati area, with an 8 pm show. On April 11th at 2 pm, Playhouse in the Park will present its Off-the-Hill production of BIRD BRAIN, especially for children five and up.

TMCi_logoThe Middle Child Improv Troupe members are storytellers, magicians, and used car salesmen, all wrapped up in one hot mess. Having quickly gained national recognition for their innovative style, this troupe already has television and movie credits on their resume, and are soaring in popularity. They are….well…probably like your middle child — quirky, and a bit weird, and you swear you love them just the same….only different. They are completely unscripted, and audience interaction and suggestions make for a hilarious, action-packed show! Shows are always family friendly!

Tickets for The Middle Child are $8 each for the one-performance only show on April 10, 2015 at 8 pm.

The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park returns to The Glenmore Playhouse with its production of “Bird Brain.” When a kindhearted woodcutter comes across a nest of freezing baby birds, he gives them a warm home under his hat. The problem is, he lives in a world where tipping your hat to others is not only a courtesy, but also the law, with severe punishments for disobeying. The woodcutter finds himself torn between doing what he feels is right and following the social norms. Will he follow the rules, or follow his heart? This charming fable about choosing to be different is full of laughs and the lesson that strange behavior isn’t always foolish.

The ticket price for “Bird Brain” is $5. The performance at The Glenmore Playhouse is on April 11, 2015, at 2 pm.

Tickets for both shows may be ordered by phoning the TDW 24/7 ticket line at 513.598.8303, or by ordering online at www.thedramaworkshop.org.

(Cheviot, OH) The Drama Workshop, the award-winning community theatre based at The Glenmore Playhouse in Cheviot, is pleased to present Neil Simon’s RUMORS from February 27 through March 15.

Charley and Myra Brock are celebrating their 10th anniversary and have invited all their good friends. Chris and Ken Gorman are the first ones to arrive, but find that Myra is missing and Charley has “accidentally” shot himself in the ear. Charley is unconscious and so unable to tell them what happened. Charley is the deputy Mayor of New York City – so Chris and Ken try to help their host avoid a scandal by covering up what they assume to be the truth of the situation. As more friends show up to the party, the story of Charley and Myra’s anniversary evening gone awry grows and develops, providing a rich basis for great characters doing what Neil Simon does best – making the mundane…insane!

The show is headed up by director Julie Jordan, who helmed TDW’s acclaimed production of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, and award-winning producer Elaine Volker.

Ms. Jordan has a long relationship with this particular show. “In 1992, The Drama Workshop held auditions for RUMORS. I didn’t know a lot about the play at the time, but I read for it and got cast as Cassie,” she explained. “I loved the play so much that I directed it several years ago for a local high school. Now, I have come full circle.”

Playing Cassie this time around is Jennifer Richardson. While Jennifer is appearing in her first show with The Drama Workshop, she’s no stranger to theatre, having been involved with various groups for over 20 years. During the day, she is speech-language pathologist at Midway Elementary.

Jennifer’s experience is matched by the rest of the cast, who come to perform in Cheviot from as far away as Madeira and West Chester. The cast is a veritable “Who’s Who” of Cincinnati theatre, featuring Robert Weidle, Kristy Rucker, Bill Keeton, Jennifer Richardson, Fred Hunt, Megan Schultheis, Gretchen Gantner, Ian Tinney, Joe Ward, and Eric Day.

Neil Simon’s RUMORS runs February 27 and 28, and March 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15th. Show times are 8 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings, and 2 pm on Sunday. There is plenty of free parking around the theatre, and many opportunities for before-show drinks or dinner in the Cheviot Entertainment District.

Tickets are $15 when purchased in advance, and may be ordered through the 24-hour ticket line at 513.598.8303, or online through the TDW website at http://www.thedramaworkshop.org. Tickets purchased at the door are $16. Because of strong ticket presales, The Drama Workshop recommends purchasing your tickets in advance.

RUMORS features strong adult language, and is not suitable for younger patrons.
