Please prepare and bring a list of conflicts from July 24th through September 24th.

Roles available:

  • Alonso- Alonso is the King of Naples. An enemy of Prospero’s, he accepted Antonio’s proposition to help the latter usurp Prospero’s throne in return for Antonio’s swearing Milan’s fealty to Naples.
  • Sebastian- Sebastian is the brother of Alonso, the King of Naples.
  • Prospero- Prospero is the deposed Duke of Milan.
  • Antonio- Antonio is Prospero’s brother. He usurped the throne of Milan from his brother with Alonso’s help, willingly abandoning the sovereignty of the Dukedom to Naples.
  • Ferdinand- Ferdinand is Alonso’s son. Cast up on his own on the island after the wreck, he is convinced that his father has drowned, not least by Ariel’s songs.
  • Gonzalo- Gonzalo is an old man, an honest counselor of Alonso’s.
  • Adrian- Adrian is a lord in Alonso’s suite. He appreciates the climate of the island where they have landed, and questions Gonzalo’s scholarship.
  • Francisco- Francisco is a lord in Alonso’s suite. He attempts to comfort the King with the hope that Ferdinand may be alive, but is unsuccessful. He is intrigued by the vanishing of the spirits at the feast.
  • Caliban- Caliban is the savage son of the witch Sycorax, and was born on the island.
  • Trinculo- Trinculo is Alonso’s jester. He is a coward and is delighted to have Caliban subservient to him. He has a taste for finery as well as for liquor, and plans to help Stefano become king of the island.
  • Stephano- Stephano is Alonso’s butler. He has something of a taste for liquor, and is well-served when he is cast up on the shore with a butt of wine that he held onto to avoid drowning.
  • Master of a Ship- The Master of a Ship captains a ship bearing the King of Naples and his closest advisers home from a wedding in Tunis.
  • Boatswain- Boatswain is in charge of running the ship in the storm.
  • Miranda- Miranda is Prospero’s daughter. Though she has some vague memories of her time at court when she was a toddler, in the main she has no recollection of a life other than being isolated on an island with no company but her father and Caliban.
  • Ariel- Ariel is an airy spirit bound in service to Prospero and impatient for his release.
  • Iris- Iris is one of Prospero’s spirits, representing the goddess of the rainbow in the masque.
  • Ceres- Ceres is one of Prospero’s spirits (likely Ariel) representing the goddess of the harvest in the masque. She joins Juno to bless Ferdinand and Miranda’s union.
  • Juno- Juno is one of Prospero’s spirits, representing the Queen of Heaven and goddess of marriage in the masque. She joins with Ceres to bless Ferdinand and Miranda’s union.

2023-2024 Season Announced by Fairfield Footlighters

fflFairfield Footlighters is happy to announce our 2023-2024 season!

THE TEMPEST
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Kate Brauer-Bell
September 22nd-24th, 2023

Putting romance onstage, The Tempest gives us a magician, Prospero, a former duke of Milan who was displaced by his treacherous brother, Antonio. Prospero is exiled on an island, where his only companions are his daughter, Miranda, the spirit Ariel, and the monster Caliban. When his enemies are among those caught in a storm near the island, Prospero turns his power upon them through Ariel and other spirits.

AMATEURS
By Tom Griffin
Directed by Abby James
November 10th-12th, 2023

Amateurs is a full-length comedy by Tom Griffin. The tangled desires and hopes of the guests at an opening night party of a New England community theatre group are examined in this bittersweet and touching comedy about the rambunctious world of “show people,” and the highs and lows of the dramatic business we call show!

YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU
By George S. Kaufman
Directed by Mark Lunsford
February 23rd-25th, 2024

The family of Martin Vanderhof lives “just around the corner from Columbia University — but don’t go looking for it.” Grandpa, as Martin is more commonly known, is the paterfamilias of a large and extended family of charming eccentrics. His granddaughter, Alice, is an attractive and loving girl who is still embarrassed by her family’s idiosyncrasies. When Alice falls for her boss, Tony, a handsome scion of Wall Street, she fears that their two families – so unlike in manner, politics and finances – will never come together. But why be obsessed by money? After all, you can’t take it with you…

FOUR OLD BROADS
Leslie Kimbell
Directed by John Vanderplough
May 24th-26th, 2024

Retired burlesque queen Beatrice Shelton desperately needs a vacation – and NOT another trip up to Helen, Georgia to see that “precious little German village for the umpteenth time.” A Sassy Seniors Cruise through the Caribbean may be just the ticket if she can just convince her best friend, Eaddy Mae Clayton, to stop praying and go with her. Unfortunately, things have not been very pleasant at Magnolia Place Assisted Living since Nurse Pat Jones began working there. The newest resident, Imogene Fletcher, is suddenly losing her memory. Maude Jenkins is obsessed with her favorite soap opera and planning her own funeral. Sam Smith, retired Elvis impersonator, keeps trying to bed every woman in the building. A mystery unfolds with laughter as the gals try to outsmart the evil Nurse Pat Jones and figure out why so many residents have been moved to “the dark side,” what exactly IS that mysterious pill, and what happened to Doctor Head? Hilarity ensues as Imogene goes undercover and Maude enters the Miss Magnolia Senior Citizen Pageant to throw Pat off their trail. If they can solve the mystery, they may make it to the cruise ship after all.

We can’t wait to see you all as our new season of shows debut!
