The fathers go even further by hiring a bandit, El Gallo, to abduct the young girl so that the boy can rescue her and be a hero. The plan works, only to go badly astray when the young couple learns they have been duped. But true love will prevail in the end. The Fantasticks is the world’s longest-running musical with a poetic book, breezy score, and evocative staging.
