7 (X1) SAMURAI On Aug. 17

CFF_7x1 Samurai7 (X1) SAMURAI
Presented by Cincinnati Fringe Festival
Aug. 17
Over-the-Rhine

Kurosawa’s epic tale of victimized peasants, marauding bandits, and samurai warriors – retold at comic breakneck pace, through movement, by one exhausted and ridiculous actor. This piece is performed in an original energetic style with accompanying gibberish and vocal sound effects. What will surprise you: This unusual style of theatre is like Kill Bill meets The Magnificent Seven in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. It is original, different, riveting to watch, and very funny.

“Best Solo Performance” in DC Fringe! “Best Solo Show and Best of the Fest” in Orlando Fringe! “Critics Pick” and “Acclaim Award” in Cincinnati Fringe! Sold out shows from Vancouver to Tel Aviv.

Know Theatre is excited to welcome back David Gaines in his solo show from Cincy Fringe ’09!

UP Announces Cast of BLOGGING BEHIND BARS

CFF_Blogging Behind BarsUnity Productions’ 2014 Cincinnati Fringe Festival production, BLOGGING BEHIND BARS, cast list:

TJ Ganser… Whitney Smith
Patrick Phillip… Brian
Matt Dentino… Jeff Smith
Rico Reid… Diggity
Ashley Dunn… Jessie
Justin Spencer… Mike

Directed by Jon Kovach, BLOGGING BEHIND BARS will run as part of the Cincinnati Fringe Festival May 28th-June 7th hosted by the Know Theatre of Cincinnati.

The creators of Cincy Fringe hits THE WAVE, and NOTHING, present the true events of Whitney Smith; a young non-violent criminal writing an award-nominated blog from inside the walls of a maximum-security prison. Caged with America’s most violent convicts, Whit’s sober insight and self-deprecating humor aid in coping with the anguish of institutionalization. Influenced by Bill Waterson (Calvin & Hobbes), reflections on prison reform have never been illustrated so “wittily.”

Unity Productions is currently searching for a stage manager available from May 7th-June 7th for this production. Please send inquiries to Jon Kovach at UnityProductions.Ohio@gmail.com.

NET Announces Auditions for TRAGEDY: A Tragedy

NET

Due to the large number of actors who are not able to attend Friday’s audition, we are moving the audition to Monday April 28, same time and location.  THERE WILL BE NO AUDITION ON FRIDAY.

New Edgecliff Theatre is seeking actors and actresses for their 2014 Cincinnati Fringe production of “TRAGEDY: a tragedy” by Will Eno, directed by NET Associate Artistic Director Mark Seamon.

Auditions will be held at The Cabaret at Below Zero Lounge at 1122 Walnut Street on Monday April 28 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Auditions will include a monologue if you have one prepared and readings from the script.

“The sun has set over streets of houses, government buildings and American backyards everywhere. The world is dark. A news team is on the scene. Their report: someone left the lawn sprinklers on; someone’s horse is loose; a seashell is lying in the grass; dogs run by. The Governor issues excited statements appealing for calm. It is night-time in the world. Everyone’s afraid. Everyone doesn’t know if the sun, once down, will ever rise again. But there is a witness, and the witness will speak.”

This ensemble piece features 5 characters that can be played by actors and actresses of any age over 21, any race or type. Rehearsals and performances will run May through early June.

To schedule an appointment, email mseamon@newedgecliff.com.

Directed by  Melinda Jean Ferraraccio

Cast: Carrie Brown & Karim Muasher

Two daring performers create an epic prairie love story. Inspired by the writings of Midwestern author Willa Cather, two daring performers create an epic story of love and loss as big as the prairie itself. Petunia, an indomitable immigrant girl determined to tame the wild land around her, meets Chicken, a right smart boy with dreams of great adventures. As the joys of their youth give way to the harsh realities of adulthood, they struggle to stay together. Sprawling fields of wheat, bustling train stations, rain-soaked kisses, wind-blown hair, and the rest of Petunia and Chicken’s world are brought to life with imagination, movement, and song.
