January 24, 2024, Fort Thomas, KY— Village Players of Fort Thomas is excited to announce its 2024-2025 mainstage season!

SALLY COTTER AND THE CENSORED STONE by Dean O’Carroll
A comedy running September 27-October 5
Courtesy of Playscripts, Inc.
Directed by Jim Waldfogle

“When Sally falls asleep while reading books about a certain juvenile wizard, she dreams that she is a student at Frogbull Academy of Sorcery. There she meets Headmaster Albatross Underdrawers, Gamekeeper Ruebenon Ryebread, and Professor Shiftia Shape. But danger is lurking, and it’s up to Sally and her new friends Dave and Harmonica to defeat the schemes of the evil Lord Murderdeath. Will she become the hero like the one in her favorite series? And who is the mysterious Censor who keeps rewriting the story as it goes along? This loving parody will thrill fans and newcomers alike.”

HOLIDAZED II by Various Local Playwrights
A New Works holiday production running December 6 – 15
Co-directed by Teri Foltz and Angela Forbes

A curated collection of original 10-minute works from local playwrights to celebrate the holiday season.  More details to follow!

TRUE WEST by Sam Shepard
A drama running February 21 – March 1
Courtesy of Concord Theatricals
Directed by Jerry Wiesenhahn

“This American classic explores alternatives that might spring from the demented terrain of the California landscape. Sons of a desert-dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin, the achiever, is working on a script he has sold to producer Sal Kimmer when Lee, a demented petty thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to Kimmer, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak, modern love story and write Lee’s trashy Western tale.”

THESE SHINING LIVES by Melanie Marnich
A drama running April 25 – May 3
Courtesy of Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
Directed by Becky Collins

“THESE SHINING LIVES chronicles the strength and determination of women considered expendable in their day, exploring their true story and its continued resonance. Catherine and her friends are dying, its true; but theirs is a story of survival in its most transcendent sense, as they refuse to allow the company that stole their health to kill their spirits—or endanger the lives of those who come after them.”

“I’m excited to bring these productions to our stage,” says play reading committee chair and board secretary Betsy Bossart. “Village is a unique space to tell larger than life stories mere feet from the audience. Come share this season’s fun!”

Season packages are $60 and individual show tickets are $20 and will be available soon at villageplayers.org.

Village Players of Fort Thomas is a vibrant community theatre, continually producing plays and musicals for almost 60 years. Our productions range across a spectrum of periods and styles, presented in our intimate, three-quarter-thrust performance space in the heart of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. We stage innovative and of-the-moment works alongside beloved classic pieces while serving as an incubator for new talent, ideas, and writing. Each season features four mainstage shows, as well as a summer production of original short plays produced by the New Works branch of the group.

JEKYLL & HYDE
Directed by Matt Neal
October 3-6, 2024

The epic struggle between good and evil comes to life on stage in the musical phenomenon, “Jekyll & Hyde”. Based on the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson and featuring a thrilling score of pop rock hits from multi-Grammy- and Tony-nominated Frank Wildhorn and double-Oscar- and Grammy-winning Leslie Bricusse, “Jekyll & Hyde” has mesmerized audiences the world over.

Stay tuned for an announcement for our December show!

ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
Directed by Scott Christian
February 13-16, 2025

Drama critic Mortimer Brewster’s engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Abby and Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves, only to learn that the two old women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor, they killed him! Between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police—not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage—it’ll be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his wedding. Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic black comedy about the only thing more deadly than poison: family.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
Directed by Rhonda Lucas
May 1-4, 2025

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, “Fiddler on the Roof”‘s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
