MISC_The Macbeths promo

William Vaughan & Audrey Bertaux.

Walterhoope, a new arts organization, in collaboration with Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center and In the Field will present THE MACBETHS, a reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth conceived by Walterhoope, served up with a meal sourced from local gardens.

The show will run for two nights only, Friday July 28 and Saturday July 29 at 7 PM at Baker Hunt, 620 Greenup Street, Covington, KY 41011. Single tickets, which include the meal, are now on sale for $12 at www.bakerhunt.org. The event is recommended for ages 12+.

How far would you go to get what you think you deserve? In Walterhoope’s THE MACBETHS, they explore Shakespeare’s classic tale of intrigue and ambition, prophecy and paranoia in the context of present-day America.

Directed by David Mavricos, starring Audrey Bertaux and William Vaughan, THE MACBETHS is Shakespeare braided into entirely new material: half Shakespeare, half Walterhoope. Celebrated Educational Chef Kristen St. Clair, owner of In the Field, will be creating a unique menu inspired by THE MACBETHS that will be served to the audience before the play begins. The play will also include original music by Kaleel Skeirik, composer and Professor of Music at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

“I want to create an environment where the audience can really connect with the artists involved,” says director David Mavricos. “What better way to do that than over a delicious, home-grown meal in Baker Hunt’s beautiful garden?”

Walterhoope is a new arts organization, whose mission is to produce high-quality art that cultivates authentic relationships with audiences and the community by investing in innovative work, arts education, and its artists’ passions. They are committed to enriching the community through sustainable practices and to reinventing their art in the pursuit of curiosity.

JULY 17TH , 2017 – BELLEVUE, KY- LAST CALL FOR ALCOHOL is a sketch comedy interactive drinking game show, which juggles comedic sketches depicting the drinking culture and people who inhabit it. Whether it’s a tale of a serious relationship, exclusively being told through Karaoke, or some gals out for a “ladies night,” who are tired of having “girly drinks,” bought for them, when all they want is a nice cold beer. You’ll surely chuckle as you recognize some relate-able situations and characters, that you’ve rubbed elbows with, while having a drink.

Throughout the night, audience members will be invited to play along in games like Neighborhoods, where they will be tested to see how well they know the tri-state area. Other classic games like, Would You Rather, and Name that Tune, will have the audience laughing and singing together.

ABOUT DARKNESS BREWING
Since opening in 2016, our goal from the beginning was to be a local neighborhood brewery…so we were very picky when it came time to choose the location for our brewery and taproom. Bellevue was the perfect fit with its very active and energetic feel and its historic charm. When we saw how active the city was within the Art community, we knew it was where we wanted to be. Our plan to show local artist’s work as well as host original live music was a perfect fit for the already established art scene. City officials and local residents alike have welcomed us in way I feel no other city would have.

Introducing the new CAST (Commonwealth Artists Student Theatre)

CAST_logoAt the end of the upcoming production of Les Miserables by the Commonwealth Artists Summer Theatre (CAST), a new era of youth theatre and theatrical experiences will begin when the expanded, and slightly renamed, Commonwealth Artists Student Theater begins operation.

CAST is a Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati theatre collaborative, that through professional quality productions, arts instruction and cultivating community relationships, empowers students to achieve their artistic potential under the leadership of professionals.

For six years, CAST has offered high school students from throughout the region the chance to act, sing, play instruments, create sets, assist with direction and choreography, and work the front of house for musicals not often presented by local high schools: Parade, Ragtime, The Producers, Spamalot, The Addams Family and, this year, Les Miserables. These productions have been possible with the support of Fort Thomas Independent Schools, a relationship that, while slightly altered, will continue into the next generation of CAST.

The new CAST is an independent 501(c)3 organization and will expand its offerings of on-stage and off-stage experiences for high school students in the Northern Kentucky-Greater Cincinnati community. With the ability to now generate funding in addition to ticket sales, CAST will offer a wider variety of productions including straight plays, cabarets, radio dramas, etc., but with the summer musical at Highlands High School remaining the cornerstone production.

“As arts programming in schools continues to fade, we’ve discovered that the interest and enthusiasm for theatre has not waned,” said Jason Burgess, artistic director and co-founder of CAST. “We need to move to this next level to provide more students with more experiences and to further solidify their lifetime love and appreciation of live theater, whether they pursue it as a career or as an audience member and patron.”

In addition to a wider array of on-stage offerings, the new CAST will also work collaboratively with the rich, vibrant local theatre community to create unique learning opportunities for students through workshops, job shadowing, talkback sessions, or internships. According to Amy Burgess, executive director and co-founder of CAST, “We know the generosity and talent of the Greater Cincinnati theatres and the professional actors, technicians, directors, and others and we want students to meet them, learn from them and, perhaps, become one of them down the road.”

CAST’s IRS 501(c)3 application has been approved and the founding board members are in place and are working on creating the initial marketing and financial plans, developing branding materials and an online presence, and establishing a strong foundation for the future of CAST. Those members are Michael Boberg (The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati); Helen Kemp (P&G); and Kevin Reynolds (Cincinnati Public Radio Inc.)

Stay tuned for more details on the new website (caststages.org) and plans for 2018 and beyond!
