CINCINNATI, OH – Somehow amid a career running the revered Maisonette & La Normandie restaurants and serving as Executive Vice President of Sibcy Cline Realtors, Nat Comisar found his way into playing concerts with a-list musicians including Steve Winwood, Kenny Loggins, Jim Messina, POCO, and famed novelty a cappella ensemble, The Bobs. After one listen to a rising vocal jazz group, Comisar eagerly sheds his business mantle again to thrill local audiences with his exquisite bass voice.

Nat Comisar joins NO PROMISES Vocal Band for the “Christmas With NO PROMISES” tour, December 7 – 21 at venues across Cincinnati, Dayton and Covington. Featuring the ensemble’s signature blend of jazz-infused seasonal favorites and everyday classics, including selections by The Manhattan Transfer, John Coltrane, Blondie, Joni Mitchell, Alicia Keys and Harry Connick, Jr., the tour consists of five appearances:

Nat Comisar.

Renowned Businessman, Guest Vocalist to the Stars
After viewing NO PROMISES’ popular summer video recording of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You,” Comisar reached out to the group for an audition, and was quickly invited to join the vocal jazz ensemble for their holiday concert tour. But his musical talents, and national-caliber performance resume, would likely surprise many Cincinnatians familiar with the prominent businessman.

Perhaps best known for his ownership and management of the much-missed Maisonette & La Normandie restaurants, Comisar has parlayed his tutelage in the family business into a sterling career in real estate and development. Amid other business interests, he serves as Executive Vice President of Sales for Sibcy Cline Realtors, where his current projects include adaptation of the Norwood Baptist Church and Allison Schools into affordable condominiums.

During his years as a restaurateur, Comisar kept up his musical chops playing guitar and singing whenever possible, including on 700 WLW as guest host for legendary Cincinnati radio personality Gary Burbank.

“My favorite part of that gig was a bit called ‘Stump the Band,’” recalls Comisar. “It was me, Gary, and the Goshorn Brothers Band [formerly of Pure Prairie League]. People would call in with obscure songs for us to sing. If we didn’t know the tune, we would make it up on the spot (which is what we wanted to do anyway) and we would laugh our heads off for an hour once a week.”

Comisar’s performances on the nationally-syndicated program earned him a standing invitation to perform at a Dallas, TX benefit, where over the years he had the opportunity to perform with the likes of Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield), Steve Winwood, Jim Messina, Kenny Loggins and POCO, among many others.

Maisonette also allowed Comisar to rub elbows with the musical elite during their stops in Cincinnati, including Bono, Cyndi Lauper, Tony Bennett, and the world-renowned novelty a cappella ensemble, The Bobs. After inviting the vocal group to dinner, Comisar suddenly found himself co-producing a live concert recording for WCET. The Bobs invite Comisar to perform with them whenever he attends a concert.

Comisar has a special love for a cappella music. At the age of 15, he joined Cincinnati’s Southern Gateway Chorus. During his college years, he led Cayuga’s Waiters: a well-traveled vocal ensemble from Cornell University. He presently sings with the award-winning Roaring 20s Barbershop Quartet.

Guest Tenor Joins NO PROMISES On Break From National Tour
NO PROMISES Christmas engagements will also feature the exception talents of Dayton native and professional actor, Noah Berry.

Berry is a recent graduate of Northern Kentucky University, where he studied Musical Theatre and took voice lessons from NO PROMISES leader Joshua Steele. Among his post-collegiate professional regional and children’s theatre credits, Berry joined the national tour of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story in the role of rock drummer Jerry Allison. Before returning to the tour in January, Berry will lend his soaring tenor to the NO PROMISES concerts on December 14 and 21.

NO PROMISES Christmas Album
NO PROMISES will travel this holiday season with their Christmas record “A No Promises Christmas.” The 2016 release was mixed by Ed Boyer, who has been responsible for the studio sound of NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” Universal Pictures’ “Pitch Perfect” and groups including Pentatonix and Home Free.

Comprised of all original arrangements, “A No Promises Christmas” includes fresh interpretations of sacred songs like “Silent Night” and “In The Bleak Midwinter” along with popular favorites like Andy Williams’ “Sleigh Ride,” Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” and selections from Vince Guaraldi’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

CDs are available at performances for $15. Digital downloads are available on iTunes, Spotify and other major digital distributors.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company Brings the Entire Family Closer to the Adventure with TOM SAWYER this Holiday Season!

csc_tom-sawyer-2

Audiences will adventure through Mark Twain’s American classic, beloved by children and adults, alongside iconic heroes Tom and Huck

CINCINNATI, November 1, 2017 – THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER, adapted by Laura Eason from the novel by Mark Twain, will open at The Otto M. Budig Theater just in time for the start of the holiday season! This high-spirited adventure tale will be directed by Associate Artistic Director Sara Clark and features Resident Ensemble members Cary Davenport, Caitlin McWethy, Kyle Brumley, Miranda McGee, and Justin McCombs.  This production is sponsored by Dinsmore, Johnson Investment Council, and PNC.

Young Tom Sawyer (Cary Davenport) is a boy who lives a simple life but longs for adventure and glory – and to catch the eye of his pretty classmate Becky (Caitlin McWethy). Tom’s world of boyhood fantasy is turned topsy-turvy when he and his best friend Huckleberry Finn (Kyle Brumley) witness a crime and get swept up into a real-life adventure as they learn important lessons about bravery, honesty, and what it is to grow up.

“I’m so excited to give audiences of all ages a chance to use their imagination and engage with this performance,” says director Sara Clark. “It’s an exciting adventure for children, and a smart, funny, poignant experience for adults. This play beautifully captures the memory of being young – the surety in our own beliefs before doubt and cynicism starts to creep in, the extent to which we wear our hearts on our sleeve. Glory of high status among your peers. Wounded pride, the impulse to run away and make everyone feel sorry for how they treated you. We still feel things that deeply as adults, we just get better at concealing it. And as Mark Twain himself said, ‘My books are water; those of the great geniuses are wine. Everyone drinks water.’ It’s an accessible and friendly play for everyone.”

THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER runs November 17-December 9, with performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM, as well as Saturdays November 25 and December 9 at 2:00 PM.  There will be no performance on Thursday, November 23. Preview performances are November 15 and 16 at 7:30.

THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER is recommended for children ages 8+ but the whole family can still join us- on Sundays Nov. 26 or Dec. 3, bring your younger kids (4+) for Artist-led child care DURING the performance! The “Playdate” program is only $15 and free for Subscribers. The option to add this program will be available as you are buying tickets for either of these show dates. Activities will range from Shakespeare Storytime to theatre games and crafts. Share the great benefits of CSC’s programming with your children: Playdate will style activities to correspond with each production, so even your youngest can join in the discussion on the ride home!

The theater is now located at The Otto M. Budig Theater at 1195 Elm Street in OTR, adjacent to Washington Park. Single ticket prices range from $14-$52.  Student/Children and Preview tickets are only $28. If available that day, $14 student rush tickets may be purchased thirty minutes before a show with a valid student ID. This production is a part of this season’s subscription package which is on sale through Dec. 31. Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted. CCM Studio Acting Series Presents Premiere of THE EARTH IS FLAT

CCM_The Earth is Flat promoThis work by alumnus Todd Almond is a coming-of-age tale set at UC. Admission is free but reservations are required. Tickets become available at noon on Monday, Oct. 30.

CCM opens its Studio Acting Series with the premiere of Todd Almond’s THE EARTH IS FLAT at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. Directed by CCM Acting Professor and Department Chair Richard Hess, the play runs through Saturday, Nov. 4 in CCM’s Cohen Family Studio Theater.

THE EARTH IS FLAT follows the story of a UC freshman named Ethan and his journey to self-discovery. Set in a UC dormitory, the play explores the universal awkwardness of the American college experience. The search for identity by those least prepared with answers resonates with unexpected comedy in this new play, which was commissioned by CCM Acting as part of the Cincinnati Playwrights Conference in 2016.

“Ethan struggles to discover what it means to step into a new life far from home as he enters college, after a personal family tragedy almost derails his life,” Hess says. “This bittersweet comedy will make your heart smile.”

“This play is important to UC and CCM because it follows a student’s journey to discover truth in a world that has fallen flat,” says CCM Acting student Olivia Passafiume, who plays the role of Jennifer in THE EARTH IS FLAT. “It explores grief, and what it means to have the rug pulled from under you during some of the most formative years of your life.”

“Most importantly, Todd Almond’s words give hope that no matter what you may believe, the power of human connection is eternal,” she adds.

Almond (BM Vocal Performance, BFA Acting 1999) is a composer, performer, lyricist and playwright. He starred alongside Courtney Love in the rock opera Kansas City Choir Boy, for which he also wrote the original book, music and lyrics. His original theatrical works include Girlfriend, Melancholy Play and musical versions of The Tempest and The Winter’s Tale, among others. Since graduating, Almond has returned to CCM to hold master classes and participate in the annual Cincinnati Playwrights Conference. Learn more about Almond on his professional website: toddalmond.com.
