Harley Quinn Studios Makes Old-Timey Radio Entertainment Cool Again

HQS_The Haunting Hour logoHarley Quinn Studios LLC is proud to present its newest enterprise, The Anti-Pestilence League! The APL was created during this time of “alternative entertainment” by Kat Reynolds, a long-time fan of both old timey and modern-day live radio shows. In wracking her brain over how to keep actively creative during the changes in the past few months, the founder of HQ Studios decided to go back to her own dream of being a radio actress and bring along some of her friends for the ride. She was convinced this was a great way to get performers together without risking their health, to offer a fun option which wouldn’t suffer from lack of a live audience response, and which held a promising future both online and live on stage.

In order to spread the word about The APL and share the talent gathered to present its first offering, the premiere episode is being offered for free online to all fans of the Harley Quinn Studios Facebook page. Not yet a fan? No problem! Visit https://facebook.com/HarleyQuinnStudios and “like” the page for this and other artistic offerings:

In its first installment, The Anti-Pestilence League proudly presents THE HAUNTING HOUR, a radio show originally produced from 1944-1946. It boasts the vocal talents of Miranda McGee, Carter Bratton, Aaron Maas, Betsy Bossart, and Jeremiah Plessinger as well as the incredible audio engineering skills of Allen Lindsey.

Be sure to keep following the Harley Quinn Studios page for more information on future APL episodes and other artistic endeavours.

OPEN AIR CABARETS Coming to the Warsaw Federal Incline Theatre Aug. 28-Oct. 10

WFIT_Open Air CabaretsThe shows must go on, safely.

Cincinnati Landmark Productions announces today the ‘Open Air Cabarets at the Incline,’ a series of benefit performances in support of the venerable west side non-profit arts group. All performances will take place on the top deck of the parking garage at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater, with safety in mind.

The series launches on Friday, August 28 and will run Fridays and Saturdays for multiple weekends. All shows will begin at 8pm and last no longer than 90 minutes.

Each audience pod comes with a table and 4 seats. Tables will be sold each night for $80 and will be spaced over 12’ apart on the parking deck, all with great views of a temporary stage next to the building. The musicians and singers will be a collection of Landmark Productions cast favorites and friends, performing songs from hit shows or pop tunes through the years.

Tables are on sale now through the CLP Box Office. Call (513) 241-6550 Monday through Friday from 11am to 5pm. Advance sales are highly encouraged.

Executive Artistic Director Tim Perrino promises a night of needed fun.

“Whether you know us from our 23 years at the Showboat, 19 years at the Covedale or 39 years of Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre – you know that CLP brings the most exciting talent to our stages,” Perrino said. “Up-and-comers, big local names and even stars from National Tours and Broadway will be performing at the ‘Open Air Cabaret’ at the Incline. They’re devoting their time and talent to support our theaters during the crisis. Join them in their support while you enjoy their dazzling performances outdoors at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater.”

All proceed from the events will go toward Landmark Productions operational costs. Due to mandated performance cancellations, the organization estimates a $1.5 million drop in revenue. But facility and overhead fixed costs remain during this trying time. Table sales for the Open Air Cabarets and other important fundraising initiatives will allow the organization to stay financially solvent, until normal operations can resume.

Seating will be capped at 25 tables (100 people) per night, for necessary safety and spacing. Parking for the event will be available in the lower level public parking garage, accessed from Matson Place, or on nearby neighborhood streets.

Carryout food from one of the nearby Incline District restaurants is encouraged; however outside drinks/alcohol will NOT be permitted to be brought on site. No coolers etc. Event staff will sell drinks outside at drink stations or in the lobby bar. Note that the lobby and restrooms will have posted occupancy limits. YOU PEOPLE Available Online from Equality Productions

The BLM play, YOU PEOPLE, is beautifully written by Peter Anthony Fields and masterfully performed by Ivory Mazur and Sal Rendino.  As Sebastian Weller prepares for his first virtual conference as vice president of a profitable tech company, he is joined early online by Jay Sommers, a senior officer of the company who, as it turns out, has a very specific and popular perspective on the Black Lives Matter movement.

The professional playwright and actor have donated their time to raise money for Black Lives Matter and The Thurgood Marshall College Fund.  Do yourself a favor and view this unique work.

To receive the YouTube link, send a donation to equalityproductionscincy@gmail.com using either Paypal or Venmo. The recommended donation is $10, but donate what you can.

#BlackLivesMatter (https://blacklivesmatter.com/) was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (https://www.tmcf.org/) provides unparalleled access to a funnel of opportunities for students to journey to college, through college and into a career. Despite the universal challenges that face today’s college bound student, TMCF transforms the lives of thousands of students each year.  TMCF boasts an 80-90% graduation rate of its Scholars – compared to a 40% graduation rate for Black/AA students overall, 37% graduation rate for students attending HBCUs, and a 62% graduation rate for all students irrespective of race/nationality or whether they attended an HBCU.

Peter Anthony Fields has written numerous stage plays which have been read or performed in Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, and London, U.K.  His play, “About Michael”, was awarded the second place Audience Appreciation Award at the British Theatre Challenge.  “About Michael” and “Monster”, are published and licensed by Lazy Bee Scripts. Fields has a BA in Theatre Studies from Kent State University and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Her most recent works include Assistant Director at The Carnegie for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. She also has worked as Assistant House Manager for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park since 2017. Courtney holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies from Kent State University. While in school, she directed several productions including “About Michael” and “The Interview”. She is excited to collaborate with Peter again hopes to continue in the future.

Ivory Mazur is originally from Germany, where his love for acting, gummy bears, and Legos began. With a theatrical career spanning over 30 years, he’s performed, directed, produced, costumed, or designed and built sets all over the world. His favorite location, however, is the Greater Cincinnati area where he has worked on productions with Centerstage Players,  Village Players, The Drama Workshop, Riverstage, Sunset Players, and La Comedia, which he looks forward to returning to after Covid. Meanwhile, he’s traveling, catching up with old friends, and spending time with family in the Kansas City area.  He thoroughly enjoyed working on this project and would like to thank Courtney, Richard, and of course Peter for casting him and giving him the opportunity to have a voice during this critical time in our history.  And a shout out to Sal – “The character you played is nothing like you are in real life. I really had fun working opposite you.”

On stage, Sal Rendino earned an Artistic Director Achievement Award in L. A., as “Best Lead Actor in a Drama” for his portrayal of real-life revolutionary Abbie Hoffman in the world premiere of Nick Zagone’s “David and Goliath in America”. Cincinnati Ballet Announces Updates to the 2020-2021 Season

CB_2020-2021 Season logoReimagined season includes new choreography and classic favorites

CINCINNATI, OH (August 10, 2020) – Cincinnati Ballet is excited to announce our modified 2020-2021 Season. While this unexpected schedule looks different than first envisioned, it is a season of surprises sure to delight dance lovers in the region. When the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the remainder of the 2019-2020 Season in March and April, Cincinnati Ballet did not anticipate programming changes well into our upcoming season. However, Cincinnati Ballet’s dedicated staff pivoted quickly to reimagine the 2020-2021 season with varied performance options. “The health and safety of our dancers, staff, patrons, and community remain our top priority,” said Scott Altman, Cincinnati Ballet CEO. “As we continue to navigate the unique challenges of social distancing, our commitment to health and safety has guided us as we created a season that delivers the world-class dance you expect from Cincinnati Ballet. We have had to make some difficult decisions, but we know, thanks to our community’s deep commitment to the arts and Cincinnati Ballet, we are safeguarding the future of our organization.” Cincinnati Ballet has adapted the 2020-2021 Season based on recommendations from government and health officials and in line with sister organizations both regionally and nationally.

Cincinnati Ballet invites you to come celebrate dance and our vibrant community next month as we kick off the season with a free, socially distanced production in partnership with Cincinnati Parks at the P & G Pavilion September 25-27. This program will feature the return of our dancers with outdoor performances showcasing selections of favorite solos and pas de deux from our rich repertoire. In November, Cincinnati Ballet will present an intimate workshop performance. “Right now, our artists are busy creating thoughtful pieces for this performance,” said Artistic Director Victoria Morgan. “Our dancers and artistic staff are developing a celebratory program. The return of this art form to an indoor stage with audiences and dancers socially distanced will proudly highlight the talents of your Cincinnati Ballet artists, as dancers, as choreographers, and innovators of our time. While the world is an unsettled place, we are focused and moving forward in our mission to share the love and healing power of dance with our community.”  As we move into December, keeping in mind appropriate social distancing, we will offer a re-imagined Nutcracker presented by Frisch’s Big Boy in an hour-long program in the Music Hall Ballroom, December 17-23.

Our second half of the season begins in a NEW and surprising way. For the first time in our history, The Kaplan New Works Series moves from the Jarson-Kaplan Theater at Aronoff Center to Springer Auditorium at Music Hall. This audience favorite will replace Jewels previously scheduled in February. To highlight the intimate setting for these contemporary world premieres, Cincinnati Ballet will perform New Works like never seen before in front of the proscenium, performing in the space you would typically see Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra musicians perform. New Works as always continues to highlight the raw, powerful athleticism of dance. In this series we reflect on these unique times, addressing today’s challenges with gravity, humor, and hope.  To celebrate springtime, we have shifted our Family Series regional premiere of Snow White from February to April. This treasured fairytale will showcase Cincinnati Ballet Second Company and Otto M. Budig Academy students and for the first time, will feature live actors narrating the story, April 8-18. April will also feature a mixed-repertoire program, Bold Moves Plus. The anchor will be the return of Ohad Naharin’s wildly popular, Minus 16. Artistically, Bold Moves Plus will serve as a precursor to our inaugural festival which will debut in the 2021-2022 Season and will celebrate legendary contemporary choreography. Artistic Director Victoria Morgan’s whimsical Cinderella is now slated to close the 2020-2021 Season with a two-week engagement June 10-20 at Aronoff Center. As audiences enjoy the magical Cinderella, Cincinnati Ballet will also be celebrating the opening of the new Cincinnati Ballet Margaret & Michael Valentine Center for Dance in Walnut Hills. Cincinnati Ballet’s new home is slated to open in Summer 2021.
