The creative team responsible for a recent Broadway flop (in which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious “Stage Door Slasher”) assemble for a backer’s audition of their new show at the Westchester estate of a wealthy “angel.” The house is replete with sliding panels, secret passageways and a German maid who is apparently four different people- all of which figure diabolically in the comic mayhem that follows when the infamous “slasher” makes his reappearance and strikes again.

The Armadillo Flats Community Theater has never produced what one would call quality entertainment. Abigail Yokle is trying to direct one of Shakespeare’s great comic masterpieces, but the budget is limited and the rental company sent costumes for every production except A Midsummer-Night’s Dream. Yet Abigail is not about to let the wrong costumes and a lack of talent stand in the way of a bad production. The actors appear as characters from the 1920s, the 1950s, a cat, a lumberjack, a disco dancer, a sailor and a host of characters from other shows. Locals also use the theater to advertise businesses and make political speeches. Other distractions include an audience member who forgets to silence a cell phone and a snake that crawls into the theater through a hole in the wall.

A brilliantly witty madcap play which manages to combine the sophistication of great comedic literature, the frenetic energy of the silliest farce and a genuinely sweet heart into one of the most beloved comedies of the American theater. Filled with fascinating character roles and winking homage to the intellectual and popular culture of the 1930s, this play is both a great period piece and a timeless classic.

ROOM FOR SECONDS Runs March 6-14

VP_Room for Seconds logo

March 13, 2020, Fort Thomas, KY— As arts organizations across the tri-state face the difficult decision of whether or not to proceed with performances in light of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, Village Players of Fort Thomas’ most important priority is, as always, the health and safety of our patrons and artists. With that in the front of our minds, and after much careful discussion and consideration, we have decided that we will stage the final two performances of ROOM FOR SECONDS tonight, March 13th, and tomorrow night, March 14th.

However, with respect to growing concerns about public spaces, we’d like to share some important safety notes for our audiences:

  • We are limiting audiences to fifty people in our 102-capacity performance space. Patrons who have already purchased tickets are guaranteed admission.
  • Programs will not be reused, and fresh programs will be distributed at both performances.
  • We are disinfecting thoroughly and daily in accordance with CDC guidelines and recommendations.
  • Hand sanitizer is available for all patrons, artists, and volunteers.

We understand that anxiety is high at this time, and we respect the personal comfort of our patrons. If you have tickets for tonight or tomorrow and are unable to attend, please reach out to us at (859) 781-3583.

No decisions regarding a cancellation or delay of our spring production of THE LAST FIVE YEARS have been made at this time, but please check our website and Facebook page for updates as we get closer to the planned April 17th opening of that show.
