Auditions Announced for GREASE at Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre

With a hip shaking rock ‘n’ roll score featuring hits like “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” and “We Go Together,” Grease celebrates Rydell High’s class of 1959 in all their duck-tailed bobby-soxed, gum-snapping glory!

We have 2 audition options: In Person or via Video Link.

For Either Option: you must get an application packet in advance by emailing Jennifer Perrino at jenniferperrino@clpshows.org. Please request: In-Person Audition or Video Link Audition.

Performers may audition by Video and/or In-Person. Both will be equally considered.

Please note: in-person auditions are always a better way to access an audtionees talent. We want to interact with you!

Must be 13 – 19 years of age at the time of the audition.

Rehearsals begin Tuesday, May 31st.

Performances: July 21 – July 31, 2022.

NOTE: Auditions, rehearsals and performances will follow all guidelines and directives in force by the State of Ohio regarding Covid–19 precautions throughout the summer.


After you receive your audition packet: For Video Link Auditions:

Send back the following in one email:

  1. The completed audition packet.
  2. A headshot and resume.
  3. Link(s) to your audition video (Should feature you singing and dancing; see note below).
  4. Deadline to submit video link audition: Friday, April 29, 2022.
  5. Send email to jenniferperrino@clpshows.org.

Please note: Your video link may include previous shows/roles or your “audition reel” or something you create for this audition. The team will want to see you, hear you sing, and get a sense of how you move. The video links will not be judged on technical quality, but only on your appropriateness to the roles available in the show as demonstrated in the recording.

In-Person Audition Requirements:

  1. All in-person auditionees MUST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO AUDITION by: emailing Jennifer Perrino at jenniferperrino@CLPShows.org
  2. Bring your completed audition packet to your audition appointment.
    Please note: You must provide your age, a good phone number and an email address when setting up your audition.
  3. Please request a specific audition time slot:
    • Saturday, April 30, 2022 Noon, 1:00pm and 2:00pm.
    • Sunday, May 1, 2022 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30pm
    • Monday, May 2, 2022 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30pm
  4. Important: Arrive 15-20 minutes BEFORE the scheduled audition time to fill out paperwork.
  5. Please prepare a song from a musical theater show that best represents your singing voice (please bring sheet music for our accompanist).
    Please note: Do not expect to sing a cappella or with pre-recorded music.
  6. Dress appropriately as you will be required to complete a dance audition.

All auditionees must complete all parts of the audition.

Participation Fee: All participants (on stage and off) are required to pay a participation fee for this summer program. Fee will be due at the first rehearsal: $175.00 for performers (includes costume and show t-shirt); $50.00 for Techies (includes show t-shirt).

Attention Techies: Interviews will be set up for those interested in working tech for this production. Set up your audition by emailing Jennifer Perrino, Producer at jenniferperrino@CLPShows.org to request a particular time slot.

Interviews slots include:

  • Saturday, April 30, 2022 12:30 and 1:30 pm
  • Sunday, May 1, 2022 6:00 and 7:00 pm

Please Note: A limited amount of funds are in place to assist with the participation fee. Funds are distributed on a confidential basis. Everyone is encouraged to audition, regardless of ability to pay! Choosing the cast of the show is based upon talent, enthusiasm and availability only. Ability to pay the participation fee is never a factor in casting decisions.

What is CYPT? Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre provides a summer of great experience for performers and techies alike. Many alumni are professional actors, singers, dancers, technicians and musicians. Others are Drama, Opera, Music Theatre, Voice, Music and Broadcasting majors at colleges all over the country. To date, over 3,000 teens have been a part of CYPT!

CYPT has produced 39 years of exciting shows, including: Legally Blonde, Jesus Christ Superstar, Footloose, Children of Eden, Hello Dolly, Anything Goes, The Pajama Game, Godspell, Les Misérables, Crazy For You, The Wedding Singer, Grease, Hairspray, West Side Story, Beauty and the Beast, The Music Man, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and many more!

CYPT is the recipient of the Post-Corbett Award for Outstanding Arts Organization, plus, the National Recreation and Parks Arts and Humanities Award, and the Ohio State Award for Best Student Program.

CYPT brings together scores of teens each summer, on stage and off. In 2021, participants came from 38 different schools, from all over the Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana region.

CYPT is for you! The teenage performer/techie interested in three things: 1) Theatrical Experience; 2) A Summer project with a difference; 3) A lot of new friends with the same interests.

Auditions Announced for SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE and CHICAGO at Commonwealth Artists Student Theatre

For CHICAGO:

  • 32 measure excerpt from a Broadway show the showcases your vocal talents
    • An accompanist, ipod/iphone connection, and a CD player will be provided. If you intend on using the accompanist, please provide a clearly marked score that is hole punched and placed in a 3-ring binder.  A cappella singing is strongly discouraged. ​
  • A memorized 45 second to 1 minute monologue from a play
  • Review and learn the dance from the video (video available soon)
    • Please remember, the dance audition is not a commentary on your dance skills.  We are not just assessing your dance ability. We are assessing your comprehension, your acting while moving, and most of all, your willingness to have fun!​
      • There will be a voluntary dance workshop to brush up on the video 30 minutes prior to the scheduled first audition slot each day.​

If you are auditioning for both the musical and the play, please prepare a song according to the directions above for the musical and prepare a monologue according to the directions for the play. Also, learn the dance audition.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE runs July 1-10 in Newport.

Auditions Announced for Disney’s FREAKY FRIDAY the Musical at INNOVAtheatre

Audition ages are 14-19 years old (except if auditioning for the role of Fletcher).

When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.

Freaky Friday, based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, features a book by Bridget Carpenter and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey – the Pulitzer Prize-winning composers of Next to Normal and If/Then.
