Auditions Announced for THESE SHINING LIVES at Village Players

The Village Players of Fort Thomas is pleased to announce auditions for THESE SHINING LIVES the evenings of Sunday, January 12th (6:00pm-9:00pm) and Wednesday, January 15th (7:00pm-9:30pm). Directed by Becky Collins and produced by Nate Huitger.

Location: Village Players of Fort Thomas at 8 North Center for the Arts (in the street-level Judith M. Sarakatsannis Gallery), 8 North Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, KY, 41075.

Synopsis: THESE SHINING LIVES chronicles the strength and determination of women considered expendable in their day, exploring their true story and its continued resonance. Catherine and her friends are dying, its true; but theirs is a story of survival in its most transcendent sense, as they refuse to allow the company that stole their health to kill their spirits—or endanger the lives of those who come after them. Please note there are themes of death and terminal disease.

Audition Requirements: Please bring a headshot and resume. Please bring your scheduled conflicts, please note one or more holidays fall in the rehearsal period; it is helpful to know travel plans early. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. You may be requested to stay past your audition time to read with other auditionees.

Callbacks: More information will be forthcoming following auditions if there’s a need for callbacks; none are planned at this time. If you are not called back it does not mean you are not cast. Each auditionee will be individually contacted by the producer before a cast list is posted.

Rehearsal times: Rehearsals will begin on Monday, March 3 from 7-10pm; Our plan is to rehearse 4 nights a week on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (conflicts dependent) and Thursday until tech week. Due to Easter, technical rehearsals will be split into the weeks of April 13th & April 20th. Please bring your conflicts to audition. Cast members will be asked to assist with build/paint days and post-show clean-up (strike).

Production Dates: Fri, April 25, 2025 at 8:00 pm, Sat, April 26, 2025 at 8:00 pm, Sun, April 27, 2025 at 2:00 pm, Thu, May 1, 2025 at 8:00 pm, Fri, May 2, 2025 at 8:00 pm, and Sat, May 3, 2025 at 8:00 pm.

Character Breakdown: listed ages are stage ages

  • Catherine Donahue*: (Woman; 20s-30s) The main character, a young, vibrant, and competitive woman who works at the Radium Dial Company. She’s a fighter who develops as the story progresses.
  • Charlotte Purcell: (Woman; 20s-30s) The leader of the Radium Dial group, she’s outspoken, tough, and determined.
  • Frances O’Connell, also plays Reporter: (Woman; 20s-40s) The moral backbone of the group, she’s kind, level-headed, and has a keen eye for scandal.
  • Pearl Payne, also plays Reporter and Daughter: (Woman; 20s-30s) The jokester of the group, she’s easy-going, chatty, and sweet. She’s also a shameless gossip who notices every symptom of sickness or scandal.
  • Tom Donahue*: (Man; 20s-30s) Catherine’s husband, a steel worker who’s very much in love with his wife but conflicted about her work.
  • Mr. Reed: (Man; 20s-50s) The foreman at the Radium Dial Company who has information about the effects of radium poisoning but doesn’t tell his workers.
  • Dr. Dalitsch also plays Dr. Rowntree & Judge: (Man, flexible age- 20+) ; A doctor in Chicago who diagnoses radium poisoning; Rowntree promotes the perceived value of radium
  • Leonard Grossman also plays Company Doctor, Radio Announcer and Son (Man, flexible age- 20+): The attorney who agrees to take the case to court.

*Please note Catherine and Tom will share staged kisses during several scenes.

Auditions Announced for WORKING at Beechmont Players

Beechmont Players and director Maggie Ingram King are excited to announce auditions for their Spring production, WORKING: A Musical. Adapted by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin) & Nina Faso (Godspell) with songs by Schwartz, James Taylor, Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In The Heights), Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Susan Birkenhead, and Mary Rodgers.

Synopsis:
Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, WORKING paints a vivid portrait of the workers the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the waitress, the fireman, the mason, and the housewife, just to name a few. While professions have been updated since the original script, the show, still set in contemporary America, contains timeless truths. Behind every job, there is a person with a story to tell.

SPECIAL FOR THIS PRODUCTION: We have been granted permission to perform a “localized version” of this show, meaning the director has the option to remove certain roles currently in the script and replace them with monologues/segments of professions unique to our area.*

Audition Dates & Info:

    Invited callbacks will be Thurs, Jan 9th if needed.

Location: Cherry Grove United Methodist Church at 1428 Eight Mile Rd

This show allows for both singers and non-singers. Even if singing is not your strong suit, you are still encouraged to audition. Please prepare 16-24 bars of any song which best showcases your vocal abilities. An accompanist will be provided so please bring sheet music, marked with starting and ending places. No acapella singing will be accepted. Cold readings will also be done from the script.

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will begin at the end of January/beginning of February. Not all actors will be called for every rehearsal until closer to show time. Rehearsal schedule will be based on cast conflicts but will occur 2-3 times a week.

Thanks to our ability to perform a ‘localized version,” available roles may differ from the script, however, there are: Over 20 roles to be filled by multiple genders, races & ethnicities, with ages ranging from 16 – 80 years old, and different vocal ranges. Auditions Announced for DOG SEES GOD at CenterStage Players

CenterStage Players is excited to announce auditions for our spring production of DOG SEES GOD – Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead written by Bert V. Royal

SHOW SYNOPSIS:  An “unauthorized continuation,” the play reimagines characters from the comic strip Peanuts as degenerate teenagers. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, sexual relations and identity are among the issues covered in this homage at the works of Charles M. Schulz.  When his beloved beagle is destroyed after a rabid rampage, CB is plunged into such a depression that a literal raincloud starts to follow him around. Suddenly introspective and concerned with the afterlife, he is no longer satisfied with his high school status as a good-looking bully. Writing without hope to a childhood pen pal who has never written back, CB confesses his doubts and fears, and describes his daily interactions with his community: his angst-ridden performance artist sister, aggressive buddy Matt, mean girls Marcy and Tricia, and stoned philosopher Van. When he unexpectedly connects with Beethoven, a childhood friend who had become a target of his group’s homophobic bullying, CB thinks he’s found both a relationship and a means to rebel against his predictable, doormat persona… but he may have to lose everything to gain peace of mind. Sex, drugs, bullying, mental illness, toxic friendships, and dead dogs. are not the first things which come to mind when we think about the children of Charles Schultz’s iconic comic strip, but Bert V. Royal’s Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead is genuine and genuinely moving update for the “Peanuts” gang. a heartfelt comedic drama and strong ensemble piece which explores the challenges of high school, and growing up.

CONTENT WARNING:

Even though it is comedic, Dog Sees God engages mature topics and explicit language surrounding suicide, bullying, eating disorders, loss, sexuality, substance abuse, and homophobia.  

Please make sure to check in with your mental health before auditioning, as there are many potential triggers in this script. We will take good care of you, but the story we are serving does touch on the above-mentioned themes and includes bullying slurs and behaviors.  

ROLES AVAILABLE (no roles have been pre-cast):

  • CB (Charlie Brown) is the main character in the play. He is intensely saddened over the death of his dog, and is forced to question both his sexuality and his social status when he unwittingly falls for his classmate Beethoven.
  • Beethoven (Schroeder) became the school outcast prior to events in the play. A bit of a recluse, Beethoven takes solace in playing the piano, but when he and CB become romantically involved, his world is turned upside down.
  • CB’s Sister (Sally) has gone Goth, at least for a portion of the play. It is mentioned that, like her character basis, she changes her philosophy on life often.
  • Van (Linus), always the philosopher in childhood, is now a pothead with a worldview to match.
  • Matt (Pig-Pen) is a pathological germophobe whose dirtiness has been internalized – he is sex-obsessed, homophobic, and terrorizes Beethoven mercilessly. He is CB’s best friend.
  • Tricia (Peppermint Patty), a party girl, who professes herself to be “pretty” and “popular”.
  • Marcy (Marcie), a party girl and Tricia’s sidekick. She has a threesome with Tricia and Matt during the play.
  • Van’s Sister (Lucy) has been institutionalized for setting the Little Red-Haired Girl’s hair on fire.

Loveland Stage Company is pleased to announce auditions for our May show, THE TOXIC AVENGER, presented by special arrangement with Music Theater International.

Please bring a prepared piece of at least 32 bars to sing that showcases the extremes of your vocal range. This is your opportunity to shine! The music director will be playing live for auditions, so please bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key. While tracks are accepted, sheet music is preferred. Please, no a cappella singing.

Also be prepared to dance – please wear/bring appropriate clothes and shoes. You may be asked to read from the script.

Auditions are held at the Loveland Stage Company (111 S. 2nd Street, Loveland, OH) and are open to anyone ages 18+.

  • MELVIN FERD THE THIRD / TOXIC AVENGER
    Always trying to be the hero, but he isn’t very good at it until he is turned into the Toxic Avenger. Determined to save New Jersey from toxic waste. He is a nerd but prone to bouts of rage in the face of corruption. Unattractive and sensitive. In love with Sarah.

    Blind. The classic heroine. Very sexy and sensual. Always speaks exactly what’s on her mind. An aspiring writer of graphic romance novels.

    As the Mayor, she is corrupt and scheming. Accepts loads of cash in return for storing the toxic waste. Set on one day being the governor of New Jersey by any means necessary.

  • Abby Brewster (Female, 50-70 years old) A darling lady, and the very model of Victorian charm and grace, who poisons elderly gentlemen, with her sister as an act of charity. She and her sister Martha seem to be the absolute embodiment of the values and polite society of a bygone age. More dominant, and a bit older than Martha, both ladies are happy, healthy, lucid, and spry. The Aunt to Teddy, Jonathan, and Mortimer.
  • Martha Brewster (Female, 50-70 years old) Very sweet, but more submissive than Abby, Martha still is a strong woman. She and her sister have lived together for many, many years. Their personalities and pecking order around each other have been firmly rooted for eons. Always wears a high collar. The Aunt to Teddy, Jonathan, and Mortimer.
  • Elaine Harper (Female, 25-40 years old) An Attractive girl, daughter of Rev. Dr. Harper, and Mortimer’s fiancée. She is surprisingly wise in the ways of the world for a minister’s daughter. She is a little bit wily, sassy, and absolutely sharp.
  • Mortimer Brewster (Male, 30-50 years old) Nephew of Abby and Martha, brother to both Teddy and Jonathan Brewster. A very likable, Mortimer is a drama critic who is in love with, & engaged to Elaine Harper. A good hearted cynic who is about to have his world turned upside down.
  • Teddy Brewster (Male, 40-60 years old) Very likable, kindhearted brother to Mortimer and Jonathan, Nephew of Abby and Martha Brewster, Teddy is a man who believes that he is the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt.
  • Dr. Einstein (Male, 45-55 years old) A German plastic surgeon, with an accent to prove it. Right hand to Jonathan, Dr. Einstein is mousey and submissive to Jonathan.
  • The Reverend Dr. Harper (Male, 50-70 years old)We only see Elaine Harper’s father in the opening scene; a doctor of divinity, and the minister to the church next door to the Brewster house. The Brewster sisters have seen many ministers come and go over the years, but they seem to be particularly fond of Dr. Harper and vice versa.
  • Officer Brophy (Male, 25-45 years old)The first police officer we meet in the show, Brophy is a thoroughly likable sort of fellow. Is making his rounds collecting Christmas toys for the needy.
  • Officer Klein (Male, 25-45 years old) A flatfoot Brooklyn officer who makes his rounds with Officer Brophy collecting Christmas toys.
  • Officer O’Hara (Male, any age) He is the quintessential example of an Irish-American police officer: Full of life, good natured and played big. He is on very good terms with the Aunts. O’Hara is a would-be playwright.
  • Mr. Gibbs (Male, 55-80 years old) An elderly gentleman who wishes to rent a room from the Brewster sisters; and nearly falls victim to the sisters “charity”. He is a little gruff, but he warms up fairly quickly upon being offered a treat he hasn’t had since he was a child.
  • Lieutenant Rooney (Male, 50-60 years old) The man in charge at the local police precinct. Very early in the show we gain a pretty strong understanding of the caliber of men he has to manage under his watch. As such, he has very little patience for blunder and mistakes, and needs to run a pretty tight ship. He is loud, decisive, and clearly in-charge of every situation in which he finds himself.
  • Mr. Witherspoon (Male, 50-60 years old) The superintendent of Happy Dale Sanitarium. Very mild mannered and kind.
