One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory, FOOTLOOSE! bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre (CYPT) provides a summer of great experience for performers and techies alike. Many of our members are now professional actors, singers, dancers, technicians and musicians. Others are Drama, Opera, Music Theatre, Voice, Music and Broadcasting majors at colleges all over the country. To date, over 2,200 teens have been a part of CYPT!

CYPT has produced 32 years of exciting shows, including: West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Footloose, 42nd Street, Children of Eden, Hello Dolly, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Anything Goes, The Pajama Game, Godspell, Les Miserables, Crazy For You, The Wedding Singer, Grease and many more!

CYPT is the recipient of the Post-Corbett Award for Outstanding Arts Organization, plus, the National Recreation and Parks Arts and Humanities Award, and the Ohio State Award for Best Student Program.

CYPT brings together 100 teens each summer, on stage and off. In 2013, participants came from 40 different schools, from all over the Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana region.

VP Announces Auditions for STEEL MAGNOLIAS

VP_logoThe Village Players of Ft. Thomas will hold auditions for Steel Magnolias on
Sunday, Feb 23 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM &
Monday, Feb 24 from 7-9 PM
on the street level of the Ft. Thomas Woman’s Club
(8 N Fort Thomas Avenue; Fort Thomas, KY 41075)

Synopsis: The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

The cast requirements are for 6 women ranging in stage ages from 20s to 60s. Roles include:

  • Truvy Jones, Owner of the beauty salon
  • Annelle Dupuy-Desoto, Beauty salon assistant
  • Clairee Belcher, Widow of the former mayor. Grande dame.
  • Shelby Eatenton- Latcherie, Prettiest girl in town
  • M’Lynn Eatenton, Shelby’s mother
  • Ouiser Boudreaux, Wealthy curmudgeon

Actors are asked to:

  • Bring a photo and resume if possible
  • Read from the script
  • Bring schedule conflicts
  • Callbacks will be held if necessary
  • Rehearsals will begin in March 2014

The production dates will be: May 2-10, 2014.

If you have questions about the production, please feel free to contact the director, Amy Hamilton at ahamilton9@earthlink.net or the producer, Valeria Amburgey at vamburgey@twc.com.
