Auditions Announced for NUNCRACKERS at The Drama Workshop

The Drama Workshop will be holding auditions for selected roles in NUNCRACKERS by Dan Goggin on Monday 6/13 & Tuesday, 6/14, 7-9 pm at The Glenmore Playhouse. Wednesday 6/15 will be reserved for callbacks if needed.

The performance dates are December 2 – 18, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM, Sundays at 2:00 PM. Additional dates may be added.

The roles of Reverend Mother, Sister Hubert, Sister Robert Anne and Sister Mary Paul (Amnesia) are pre-cast.

The following roles are available:

  • Fr. Virgil (tenor to baritone) — 20s-60s; strong actor with comic timing; a priest with a bent for show biz; has his own radio show and relishes his celebrity; despite his used- car- salesman antics, he has a warm heart.
  • 2 girls, 2 boys — Students at Mt. St Helen’s school. All must be energetic, fearless on stage, strong harmonizers, well behaved, reliable and focused. Strong singers who move well: 2 boys and 2 girls, junior high and/or high school age will be cast.

Auditioners are asked to prepare 32 bars from a musical song and come prepared to dance.

Auditions Announced for AND THEN THERE WERE NONE at Beechmont Players

BPI_logoAuditions will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 10, and 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 11. Auditions will be held at the Anderson Center – Community Room B (7850 Five Mile Road, Cincinnati).

Ten guilty strangers are brought together on an isolated island by invitations from an unknown host. One by one they are accused of murder; one by one they succumb to an unseen, diabolical avenger. A nursery rhyme foretells how each of the ten will meet their death until finally there are none.

Headshots/resumes are welcomed/encouraged, but not necessary. Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

Character descriptions: Ages listed represent stage ages, not necessarily the actual ages of the actors/actresses.

  • Vera Claythorne – Attractive young governess. Intelligent and capable, if subject to hysteria. Age range: 20s.
  • Philip Lombard – Good-looking man with a touch of the adventurer about him. Attracted to Vera. Age range: 30s.
  • Sir Lawrence Wargrave – Highly intelligent older man with a commanding personality. Age range: 40s-60s.
  • Dr. Armstrong – Fussy, somewhat timid. Recovering alcoholic. Age range: 40s-60s.
  • William Blore – Middle-aged, somewhat shifty. Private detective, initially passing him off as someone else. Age range: 40s-50s.
  • Emily Brent – Tall, thin suspicious-looking woman. Somewhat righteous. Age range: 40-60s.
  • General MacKenzie – Upright, soldierly old man. Gentle, tired. Age range: 60s-70s.
  • Anthony Marston – Rich, spoiled playboy. Not very intelligent. Age range: 20s-30s.
  • Rogers – A competent middle-aged manservant. Age range: 30s-40s
  • Mrs. Rogers – Rogers’ wife. Thin, worried, frightened-looking. Age range: 30s-40s.
  • Fred Narracott – Ferry captain who brings the guests to the island. Gruff. Age range: 30s-60s.

Open to all 18 years and up. Auditions will be cold readings from the script. All who audition may bring an optional theatre resume and headshot. Please be prepared to indicate potential rehearsal date conflicts. If cast you will be required to become a member of Footlighters Inc. ($15 individual / $25 family).

Synopsis: A community theatre group is trying desperately to put on a new play, Murder Most Foul, in spite of maddening interference from a haughty author who keeps revising the script. Act 1 is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act 2 is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance in which anything that can go wrong does!

Cast of Characters:

  • Aggie Manville – capable but pessimistic stage manager – either male or female, any age
  • Gerry Dunbar – often exasperated director – either male or female, over 40 years old
  • Louise / Louie Perry – overwork technician – either male or female, any age
  • Phyllis Montague – eccentric novice playwright of Murder Most Foul – female, 40s-60s
  • Henry Benish (‘Lord Dudley’) – leading man, married to Polly – mid 50s
  • Polly Benish (‘Lady Margaret’) – “diva” concerned with her weight, constantly teased about it by Saul – mid 50s
  • Marla “Smitty” Smith (‘Doris the maid’) – pretty but inexperienced student; must be able to look late teens
  • Saul Watson (‘Dr. Rex Forbes”, the villain) – sarcastic wisecracker, can’t resist a joke especially at Polly’s expense – 40s-60s
  • Billy Carewe (‘Stephen Sellers’) – spirited young actor, 25-35
  • Violet Imbry (‘Diana Lassiter’) – the not-to-bright Ingénue, 25-35

This incredibly humorous and touching play explores the lives of women through 28 interwoven characters who share their memories of love and loss as framed through the clothes they wore. From wedding dresses to miniskirts, the female obsession with black, and the hunt for the perfect purse, LOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE cheers and jeers the idiosyncrasies of the female experience. This show will be performed by 5 women assuming various roles throughout the show. Actors must be able to create a variety of distinct characters, voices/dialects, and physicalities from one scene to another.

Auditions by Appointment Only on the Following Dates:

  • June 18 1pm-4pm
  • June 19 1pm-4pm

Please Prepare:

  • 2 short, contrasting monologues. Total time for both monologues should not exceed 2 minutes.
  • Select auditionees will be given sides from the script to work and perform after their initial audition is performed.

Also note:

  • Resume listing theatrical experience and headshot/picture are required to audition. Please bring with you to the audition, do not send in advance.
  • Love, Loss, and What I Wore requires a cast of five women, featuring a diversity of ages, races, and physiques. Actresses of all types are encouraged to audition.
  • Must be at least 20 years old to audition.
  • All roles are paid. Not AEA eligible.
