SYNPOSIS
Left quad. Right quad. Lunge. A girls indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.

Auditions Announced for BE MY BABY at Sunset Players

SSP_logoThe Sunset Players and director Nick Dunker will hold open auditions for their winter show, BE MY BABY, a comedy by Ken Ludwig.

The play tells the story of John, an irascible Scotsman, and an uptight English woman, Maude, both in their late 50s, who take on the journey of a lifetime. They are brought together when his ward marries her niece. Then, when the young couple decides to adopt a newborn baby, the older couple has to travel 6,000 miles to California to pick up the child and bring her safely home to Scotland. The problem is John and Maude despise each other. To make matters worse, they get stranded in San Francisco for several weeks and are expected to jointly care for the helpless newborn. There they form a new partnership and learn some startling lessons about life and love.

Rehearsals:

A table read in early December followed by rehearsals (typically three nights a week) starting early January. Tech week will be from February 19 to 23. We will try to be dark on Wednesday but no promises.

Auditions Announced for ONCE ON THIS ISLAND at Dayton Playhouse

Here is what Director Aaron Washington will be looking for:

An integral part of the story told in ONCE ON THIS ISLAND includes a history of the island’s color caste system, and its predominantly African heritage. In casting the show, we will be giving strong consideration to that, however, except for the roles of Ti Moune and Daniel (whose ethnicity is noted in the breakdown below), we are open to the possibility of non-traditional casting choices and encourage everyone with a strong voice to audition.

Looking for all actors to be comfortable moving with some needing strong dancing skills.

Production dates: Jan.13-29, 2023

PREPARE A SONG in the style of pop, gospel or contemporary musical theatre that accurately demonstrates your vocal ability and range and have sheet music in the appropriate key. We will provide an accompanist. Auditions with backing tracks will be accepted, however, No a cappella auditions please.
All will take part in a movement/ dance audition. All skill levels will be considered.

THE STORY
Ti Moune is a fearless peasant girl who falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of the island. When their divided cultures keep them apart, Ti Moune is guided by the powerful island gods, Erzulie, Asaka, Papa Ge, and Agwe, on a remarkable quest to reunite with the man who has captured her heart.

THE CHARACTERS

  • LITTLE TI MOUNE – 9 – 12 year old young girl of African descent, who will be instrumental in the story telling.
  • TI MOUNE – (High belt) Ti Moune is a peasant girl of African descent. Curious and energetic with an infectious joy for life.
  • DANIEL – (Tenor) Daniel is a mix of African and French descent. He is Ti Moune’s love interest, and a member of the ruling class, torn between duty and love.
  • MAMA EURALIE – ( Alto) Ti Moune’s adoptive mother. Tries to be stern but has a generous spirit.
  • TONTON JULIAN – ( Baritone) Ti Moune’s adoptive father. Gentle with a quiet strength.
  • ANDREA – (Mezzo) Daniel’s betrothed, a grande homme.
  • ARMAND – (Baritone) Daniel’s father, a grande homme.
  • AGWE – (Bass/ Baritone) God of the Sea. Powerful yet playful.
  • ASAKA – (Mezzo/ Soprano) Mother of the Earth. Fierce with a wicked sense of humor.
  • ERZULIE – (Soprano) Goddess of Love. Warm and kind.
  • PAPA GE – Tenor/ Baritenor) The Spirit of Death. A trickster. Lithe and mysterious.
  • STORYTELLERS – (All vocal types) 4 -6 Chorus and ensemble members who help create the world of the show.

Auditions Announced for COMPANY at Loveland Stage Company

LSC_logoLoveland Stage Company is excited to announce auditions for COMPANY by the late Stephen Sondheim on November 7th & 8th.

On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor, Robert, contemplates his unmarried state. Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks and even a wedding, his friends – “those good and crazy people [his] married friends” – explain the pros and cons of taking on a spouse. The habitually single Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood during a hilarious array of interactions. The audience will enjoy seeing an intimate reflection of themselves and their own friends.

This production staff is committed to bringing together a diverse group of people dedicated to bringing this story to life. We encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, body types, and ages to audition. We hope to unite a group of people looking to enhance the arts in our community. No roles have been precast.

We are committed to the safety of all members of this production. Please bring proof of your COVID-19 Vaccination. We do require that the cast, crew, and production team be fully vaccinated. Masks will be required during rehearsals when not actively engaged on stage.

Auditionees are asked to prepare a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue. You will also be asked to read sections from the script. Audition packets and sides will be made available before the audition dates so that auditionees will have time to fill out audition forms and prepare sides for the roles for which they are interested in being considered.

Rehearsals begin in early January but will include some meetings in mid-December for table work and early blocking concepts.

Synopsis
Undine has it all – success, love, and a fabulous wardrobe. When her life unravels in one hilarious reversal after another, she is forced to return to a life she had long left behind. In this satirical comedy, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage asks Undine – and all of us – whether you can really ever go home again.

Fabulation, or the Re-Education of Undine, is rated PG-13 and contains adult themes.

Roles

  • Undine – A high-powered executive at a PR firm who loses everything but gains a sense of perspective in the process; a self-made woman who endures with humor and honesty.
  • Grandma – Diabetic and a wheelchair user, Undine’s grandmother, has a warm demeanor but laments having lived a “perpetually gray life.”
  • Father – Undine’s father resents the way Undine left her family behind.
  • Hervé – Undine’s suave but dishonest husband.
  • Guy – Undine’s romantic interest, whom she meets when she accidentally ends up in rehab, Guy, is an optimist and an aspiring firefighter.
  • Stephie – Undine’s assistant at the PR firm.
  • Flow – Undine’s brother works as a security guard and writes free-flowing hip-hop rhymes that look at the struggles of black existence and are inspired by the Brer Rabbit fable.
  • Accountant – Undine’s financial advisor shares the news of her bankruptcy with her.
  • Mother – Undine’s mother works as a security guard and is more willing to welcome Undine back into the family.
  • Ensemble – Various additional characters weave in and out of the narrative.
