A Romantic Comedy Drama. It centers around two political consultants (fresh out of college) who initially meet each other in a Savannah, Georgia hotel bar on Leap Year of 1992 (Saturday). Every Leap Year (February 29) always falls around the same time of Presidential Election Primaries. In this case, Mason Brandon & S.J. Henshaw are in the state of Georgia for the March 3, 1992 Democratic primary. Mason is a campaign consultant for candidate Jerry Brown. S.J. is a campaign consultant for rival candidate Bill Clinton. Despite being on two different campaigns, the two become romantically involved with each other that weekend. This despite one of them being engaged to be married. When the rendezvous is nearly over, Mason (almost as a joke) suggests that they should re-unite exactly four years later on Leap Year of 1996. S.J. takes him up on his offer. This is a catalyst for reunions for the two of them on Leap Year of the following years 1996 (Thursday), 2000 (Tuesday), 2004 (Sunday), 2008 (Friday) and 2012 (Wednesday). *If you notice on the six different days, one day is missing. Hence the title. Marriages, break ups, divorces, children, future rival campaign candidates (including different political parties), different cities never get in the way of them re-uniting every four years for twenty years.

Show Dates:  September 24-26

Auditions Announced for SEUSSICAL JR. at Acting Up

ACTUP-logoActing Up, young performers community theater, is holding open auditions for our fall musical, SEUSSICAL JR., Aug. 9 and 10. Participants must be ages 6-18 years old and still in high school. To secure an opportunity to audition, you must sign up for a date/time via SignUpGenius.

Show Info: Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

What to prepare and bring:
Song: Be prepared to perform 32 measures (no longer than 1 minute) of any song that highlights your voice. This should be a Broadway-type song. You should sing with karaoke-type music (no vocals) downloaded on your phone, iPod, or CD. There will not be an accompanist. (Please note, no WiFi is available in our building and cell service is spotty, so please have any music pre-downloaded.)

Please make sure that ALL of your CONFLICTS are listed in the database and printed with your form.  ALL conflicts must be reported at auditions.
Photo: Bring a recent photo that looks like you, that you do not need returned. No need at all for professional photos, a selfie is fine. It is merely to help the casting board recall who is who.
Schedule: Rehearsals will begin the week of August 23, and are expected to be Monday-Thursday 6:30-9:00pm and Sundays 2:00-5:00pm. Not all actors will be called to every rehearsal.

Current protocols do allow for masks to be removed when actively performing (not during rehearsal). We will continue to watch the recommendations of the Warren County Department of Health as well as Mason City Schools throughout rehearsals and will adjust protocols accordingly. If any changes are made, we will notify parents.

For auditions – The above protocols are in place. During the monologue and song portion of the audition, we will ask that actors remove their mask. The actors will be in small groups and will be socially distanced. Everyone on the casting team has been vaccinated.

Help Loveland Stage Company Win Capital Improvement Grant

LSC_Donation for HVACPlease help The Loveland Stage Company win up to $100,000 for a capital improvement to the HVAC system in the building.  The Gannet Foundation is teaming up with A Community Thrives and MightyCause.com to sponsor a four-week fundraising campaign.  As a small non-profit, LSC needs to raise at least $3000 to qualify to win the $100,000 grant.

DONATING:
Here’s how you can help:  Donate to LSC using the links below.  You will be taken to a special fundraising page, hosted by MightyCause (similar to the GoFundMe site).  USING THIS WEBSITE IS THE ONLY WAY THAT YOU DONATION COUNTS TOWARDS THE GRANT GIVEAWAY.  Our goal is to raise at least $5000.  That amount will get the improvements started, even if the big grant eludes us.

Increasing the Chances of LSC Winning:
Each “unique” contribution scores bonus points towards earning the large Grant money.  Two donations of $25, each using separate emails, is ranked higher than if one person gives $50.  Take an extra moment and ask each member of your family to give something ($5 minimum).  Any amount helps, as long as it uses a different email.

Four Weeks to Act!
All funds must be raised in the four weeks from July 19th – August 14th.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS PLEA TO ANYONE WISHING TO DONATE TO A GOOD CAUSE.

THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE LOVELAND STAGE COMPANY!
