Auditions Announced for GEEZERS at Tri-County Players

TCP_logoTri-County Players and Director John Vanderplough announce auditions for the drama GEEZERS by Tommy Lee Johnston.

Auditions

  • Tuesday, June 20, and Wednesday, June 21; 7:00PM-8:30PM.
Sharonville Branch Public Library, 10980 Thornview Drive, 45241.

A resume/ headshot would be appreciated, but is not mandatory.
Questions to: johnvanderplough@hotmail.com with the subject line GEEZERS.

GEEZERS is the story of a twenty-something young man who takes his first job in the a retirement community. While there, he interacts with several of the seniors who teach him much about the world and about himself. Each senior has a backstory which is dramatized by each having a younger version of themselves tell their story to Jack.

Main Characters:

  • Jack (stage age mid-20s)– the key character and lead of the show. It’s a challenging role as Jack is in just about every scene. His anxiety sometimes makes it difficult for him to communicate.
  • Gina (age 35-45)– a nurse practitioner director of nursing services; hard-edged as she takes her job seriously. Also a heavy role.
  • Jenny (age 40-55)– a regular visitor to the facility to see Miss Emily. Jenny has only a few scenes, but she is important for her interactions with Emily.

The Geezers:

  • Ray– likes to sleep in the recliner, and he constantly carries his pillow with him as a companion. He drops in and out of conversations as he sleeps.
  • Neil– an Air Force veteran who now walks with cane. A bit of a curmudgeon, he is quick-witted and likes to jab anyone within earshot.
  • Kate– Former actress who never forgoes an opportunity to speak of her glory days. She runs the roost at the center, and looks to catch the eye of any breathing man who may be in the room.
  • Emily– suffers from dementia, quietly watches many hours of TV, but has moments of great lucidity.
  • Young Ray, Young Neil, and Young Kate (stage age 20-27)– These three each tell the Geezer’s backstory in one long, dramatic scene with Jack. Because of this, there will be limited rehearsals until September.

Performances: Six shows, Friday, September 29 – October 8, 2023. Sunday matinees.
Load-in/tech week: September 22–28.
Venue is Bell Tower Arts Pavillion, Evendale. OH.

Auditions Announced for THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL at Sunset Players

SSP_logoSunset Players announces AUDITIONS for THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL!
If you are a fan of Schmigadoon and Schmicago, you will love this show!

Sunset Players gleefully announce auditions for THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL.  This fun spoof of classic musicals will be directed and choreographed by Dennis Murphy. MUSICAL direction will be by Linda Abbott.

Auditions will take place at 7:00 p.m. on June 27 and 29 at the Arts Center at Dunham, 1945 Dunham Way, 45238. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Auditionees are asked to prepare 16 bars of two contrasting songs from musicals written prior to 1980.  There will be a brief dance audition as well.

In THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL, the cast takes the basic plotline of a melodrama and performs it “in the style of” five different composers/composing teams: Rogers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Jerry Herman and Kander and Ebb.  Each short musical, melds characters and plotlines from the composer’s shows together as the cast performs the same basic plot employing songs “in the style of” the composer’s shows.  (Example: In the Rogers and Hammerstein spoof called Corn, a Curly-like character sings a song that reminds you of Oh, What a Beautiful Morning and another one that is like Soliloquy from Carousel.)

The cast will consist of four leading roles and a small ensemble, although some flexibility in casting is possible. The whole cast must be able to sing in different musical theater styles, as well as, possess a strong sense of comedy.  The ability to dance in different styles is also a plus.

Lead roles include:

  • A soprano who could play roles like Laurie in Oklahoma, but also Evita in Evita!
  • A tenor who could play roles like Curley in Oklahoma, but also the MC in Cabaret.
  • A mezzo-soprano who can play Aunt Eller in Oklahoma and/or Dolly Levi or Mame.
  • A baritone who could play Jud in Oklahoma but also The Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd.

The director also hopes to cast 3-6 ensemble members who will support the leading roles by appearing as townsfolk, party goers, apartment residents, peasants, aristocrats and even jailhouse songbirds.

Performances of THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL will be October 20-29. Rehearsals will begin in late August/early September.  Rehearsals and performances will be held at the Arts Center at Dunham.
