Rose is a young Mexican migrant, abandoned and lost in turbulent 1930s California. She clings to Margaret Thomas, a Kansas farmwife displaced by the Dust Bowl. Together, they grieve a lost family and search for home and healing ​in the midst of unrelenting hardships. Could John Bollen, the generous wheat farmer down the road, be a savior for them both? A powerful journey of the heart unfolds ​for three people who find their lives intertwined, ​each desperate to heal the past and embrace a new future.

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed eight times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, the passengers rely on detective Hercule Poirot to identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.

Peer into the MURDER ROOM July 28-Aug. 13 at The Drama Workshop

“Murder Room” is a zany, farcical whodunit featuring newlyweds Edgar and Mavis. Two days after their wedding, Edgar discovers Mavis is worse than unfaithful. After her first attempt to kill him by poisoning his cocoa fails, Mavis resorts to shooting him and then returning to her lover. Chaos and complications reign when it transpires that the shots were blanks and Edgar’s body has vanished!

Fans of slapstick, mystery spoofs and witty dialogue will love this (the play, not Mavis!)

Written by Jack Sharkey and directed by Darren Lee, the play has been performed around the world.

Auditions Announced for THE CEMETERY CLUB at Springboro Community Theatre

About the Show:
Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life; Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun; and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. He meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave. Doris and Lucille squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida. They are guilt-stricken when this nearly breaks Ida’s heart.

Audition requirements:

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Roles are available for 4 females and 1 male, all roles are for actors 50+.

  • IDA, female, 50-65, The gentlest and most charming of the three widowed friends, faces life the most realistically, ready to move on past grief and to accept new challenges.
  • LUCILLE, female, 50-65, The most brazen one, always looking for a good deal, good time and always looking to “get even” with her unfaithful husband.
  • DORIS, female, 50-65, The most conservative of the three, refuses to change any element in her life, adheres to her strict principles of love and respect and expects her friends to do the same.
  • SAM, male, 50-65, The local butcher, mourns the death of his wife, realizes that life has much to offer and is willing to take a chance on happiness again.
  • MILDRED, female, 50-65, A show-off and a flirt.

Cast Announced for THE WIZARD OF OZ at Springboro Community Theatre

SCT_logoSpringboro Community Theatre is proud to announce the cast of “The Wizard of Oz”, directed by Matt Kuntzman, with Music & Vocal Direction by Judy Mansky and Chorography by Tamar Fishbein. Performances are August 4-6 & 11-13 at 7:30pm at North Park Amphitheater in Springboro!

We’re off to see the wizard! Young Dorothy Gale is swept away by a tornado from her Kansas farm to the magical land of Oz. There, she encounters a host of whimsical characters: good witches, bad witches, animals that talk, scarecrows that walk, and things magical to behold. To find her way home, she must journey along the Yellow Brick Road to see the mysterious and all-powerful Wizard in Emerald City. Along the way, she makes new friends, but must also brave many dangers, including the Wicked Witch of the West, who will stop at nothing to get her hands on Dorothy’s magical ruby slippers. To make it home safely, Dorothy must learn an important lesson: there’s no place like home.
