He learns of her extraordinary loyalty, but it’s too late — his cruel actions set off an unlikely chain of events that ripple into the next generation. Can Leontes ever be forgiven or redeemed? A passionate drama and a gentle comedy, The Winter’s Tale is one of Shakespeare’s great late romances, full of magic and hope.

Recent high school graduate, Howard Crabtree, moves from his hometown in Missouri to New York City to put on shows, sing and dance, make funny costumes, and find other people just like him. He’s gathered some dear friends to help him put on his first show, but things aren’t going as smoothly as they would like. You see, Howard has designed and built the costumes and set, directed and choreographed the show, and is performing in it too! While Howard tries to keep things from falling apart, he can’t help but hear the warnings of his high school guidance counselor, Miss Roundhole, who told him not to pursue theatre, but a more sensible career instead. Will the show and Howard’s dreams work out? When pigs fly!

It’s 1941 in the country home of Charles and Ruth Condomine in Kent, England. Celebrated writer Charles Condomine and his wife, Ruth, have planned a social gathering with their friends, Dr. and Mrs. Bradman in which the guest of honor is a spiritual medium named Madame Arcati. Charles is hoping to use Madame Arcati for inspiration for his latest book. Madame Arcati conducts a seance which at first appears to have failed, but soon it becomes clear that Charles’ late wife Elvira has been brought back to haunt him. Through a series of mishaps, Ruth accidentally ends up on the “other side,” and Charles finds himself haunted by both of his now-deceased wives.

2024-2025 Season Announced by Merit Theatre Company

Our next season is looking MERRY and BRIGHT!

This December 6 & 7, the Merit Company Orchestra & Chorale will present “A VERY MERIT CHRISTMAS” in the newly renovated Corbett Theatre at Northern Kentucky University. This year’s program will include old favorites as well as *NEW* songs and surprises!

Next summer, Merit will present the new musical BRIGHT STAR July 25–August 2, 2025, at Northern Kentucky University. Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s BRIGHT STAR tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and 40s.
