Cast Announced for THE ART OF DINING at Mariemont Players

MPI_logoMariemont Players and director Laura Berkemeier are excited to announce the cast of our May production, THE ART OF DINING by Tina Howe:

  • Catherine Cook as Ellen
  • Ryan Bowron as Cal
  • Susan E. Smith as Hannah Galt
  • Fred Gorney as Paul Galt
  • Haley Knuth as Elizabeth Borrow Colt
  • Candace Grissom as Herrick Simmons
  • Traci Taylor as Nessa Vox
  • Melanie Herrick as Tony Stassio
  • Brandon Dunphy as David Osslow

Cal and Ellen are the owners and sole staff of a small, elegant gourmet restaurant. Cal’s main preoccupation is paying back the $75,000 it cost to start it up, and that means packing in the customers. Chef Ellen is preoccupied with the food’s quality and stopping Cal from sampling the ingredients. The diners act out their own private dramas over dinner and their conversations are exquisite burlesques of contemporary attitudes. There’s a sensual middle aged couple who go into paroxysms of ecstasy just reading the menu and then there’s three crass chic young career women. Finally, there’s Elizabeth, a maladroit, shy and neurotic writer who’s dining with her prospective publisher. Her actions and conversation are unintentionally hilarious and a delicious example of how not to act and what not to talk about while dining.

Laura Berkemeier – Director
Kristen Vincenty – Producer
Aimée Ward – Stage Manager

Performance Dates: May 8-24, 2020

Actors Needed for SERIALS! 10 Performance

KTC_Serials 10Hello Cincy Actors!!

I’m Gray Shaw and I have a piece running in Serials! 10 at the Know Theatre. The name of my serial is “Psych-O (or “O” is for Outcast), and it is centered on a female psychologist whose practice is exclusively patients that society hates – clowns, mimes, telemarketers, lawyers, etc.

The first episode has a male Clown Patient and a male Mime Patient (who also plays the offstage voice of the doctor’s male secretary, and obviously the female psychologist. The performance date is the evening of Monday, March 2 (and if voted by the audience to continue, a second and final evening of Monday, March 16).

We would probably rehearse for couple of hours on the afternoon of the Saturday prior and possibly the same amount of time on the afternoon of that Sunday (depending upon the actors’ schedules) but then definitely a Monday dress rehearsal on the actual stage at the Know in a time slot they will assign us somewhere prior to the night’s show. If the serial is extended to the 16th, a similar rehearsal schedule will be used for that performance.

Interested? If so, please email me a good time to contact you and a phone number to gray59shaw@gmail.com.

CINCINNATI, OH – February 19, 2020 — Sunset Players, a Westside community theater group that performs at the Arts Center at Dunham, will be filled with country music with Pump Boys and Dinettes from March 6 through 21.

A musical comedy written by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann and directed by Don Frimming, the Pump Boys sell high octane on Highway 57 in Grand Ole Opry country, and the Dinettes run the Double Cupp diner next door. With gallons of hilarity and slices of heartbreak, they perform an evening of country and western songs on guitars, piano, bass and even kitchen utensils.

For its 40th anniversary season, Sunset Players reunited the Pump Boys from their original 2001 production with two new Dinettes to round out the cast. The cast includes:

  • Dan Wolking as Jackson
  • Allen Lindsey as L.M.
  • John Wesseling as Jim
  • Eddie as Jerry Yearout
  • Clare Hingsbergen as Prudie Cupp
  • Virginia Pollack as Rhetta Cupp

Produced by special arrangements from Samuel French, Pump Boys and Dinettes performances are March 6, 7, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20 and 21. All shows begin at 8:00 pm, except Thursday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm. Cincinnati State’s Interpreter Training Program will provide sign language interpreting for the deaf community on the second Saturday performance.

Tickets are $20 or $18 for seniors, students and groups of 10 or more. They can be purchased online at the Sunset Players website (www.sunsetplayers.org) or at the door.

Sunset Players, Inc. is a community theater group located on the west side of Cincinnati. Founded in 1979, the group performs at the Arts Center at Dunham and has produced more than 145 shows. Its mission is to bring a smile, and its plays include comedies, farces, dramatic comedies and musical comedies—as long as there is some “comedy” in the performance.
