CINCINNATI, OH – February 8, 2022 — The Sunset Players are thrilled to announce that the curtains will finally rise next week for Drinking Habits, the first show of their 2021-2022 season.
Directed by Dan Hawkins and produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc., Drinking Habits, a farce by Tom Smith, centers on two nuns at the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing who are secretly making wine to keep the convent doors open. When two reporters, former fiancées, go undercover to investigate, accusations, mistaken identities, and romances ensue in this laugh-out-loud farce. Performances are February 18, 19, 25, 26, 27 and March 3, 4 and 5. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8:00 pm, Thursday at 7:30 pm, and Sunday matinee at 3:00 pm.
Tickets for Drinking Habits are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.sunsetplayers.org, or at the door. Tickets are $15 general admission and $13 for seniors, students or groups of 10 or more.

- While we had to cancel our planned spring production of Two By Two, we are excited to announce that Queen City Productions will be performing The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Arts Center at Dunham March 31st through April 10th. How do you spell F-U-N?! This heartfelt musical comedy will have you in stitches as a group of six ragtag adolescents (all played by adults) competes in a high-spirited Spelling Bee. Pandemonium ensues as they vie for the top spot and spell their way to nationals. This high-stakes competition puts each of the contestants at the mic and in the spotlight as we learn about their hilarious and touching stories from the heart. Season pass holders for The Sunset Players will be granted admission to this production. Please see our website closer to performance dates for details.
- Alice in Wonderland, a treat for kids and those young at heart, brings Alice to life as a group of performers seeks out Alice to provide “her turn” in Wonderland. As her adventure unfolds, Alice encounters many unforgettable Based on the Lewis Carroll classic, this piece was dramatized by William Glennon, and is produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois. Performances are June 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26, 2022. Friday performances will be at 7:00 pm, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm.
- Laughter on the 23rdFloor by Neil Simon. Directed by John Wesseling and produced by special arrangements from Samuel French, this play focuses on the star and writing staff of a weekly comedy-variety show circa 1953 and the writing, fighting, and wacky antics that ensue in the writers’ Based upon Mr. Simon’s days writing for Sid Caesar along with Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, and Woody Allen, performances are August 19, 20, 26, 27, 28 and September 1, 2 and 3, 2022.

About The Sunset Players
The Sunset Players, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1979 as a community theatre group with the mission of bringing quality, affordable theatre to the Greater Cincinnati region. The group performs at the Arts Center at Dunham and has produced more than 148 shows since it was founded. Winner of hundreds of awards from the Association of Community Theatre (ACT) of Cincinnati, Sunset Players’ mission was significantly expanded in 2012 with the lease of the historic Dunham Arts Building from the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, saving the facility from probable demolition. About the Arts Center at Dunham
During the COVID shutdown, the Arts Center at Dunham has been able to make several upgrades to improve the audience experience. Courtesy of a grant from the Hamilton County CARES Relief Program for assistance to arts and cultural organizations, the Arts Center has installed viral mitigation equipment within the HVAC systems and obtained an emist electrostatic disinfection system to clean the theater before/after each performance. The theater will follow local, state and federal requirements related to COVID for the health and safety of our patrons, volunteers and actors.
Sound systems have been enhanced, and an assistive listening system obtained to enhance the experience of our hearing impaired guests, courtesy of a generous Small Arts Organizations Award from Summerfair. Finally, The Sunset Players are a recipient of an ArtsWave Catalyzing Impact Grant that will be used to fund the 2022-2023 Arts Center at Dunham FREE Family Fun Series. This is a matching grant, so attendance and support of the Sunset Players and the Arts Center at Dunham will help fully fund this opportunity for all to experience the incredible creative and performing arts that Cincinnati has to offer.
Unfortunately, the Arts Center at Dunham is not wheelchair accessible. This is one of our many remaining funding needs. Attendees must be able to navigate 2 short flights of stairs, both with handrails. There are 3-4 steps from the outside to the Box Office/Lower Lobby and another 6 from that level to the theater level. Patrons with difficulty walking longer distances, or on uneven surfaces, can be dropped off by the walkway to the front entrance of the facility.
