Video Auditions Announced for MCBRIDE’S CALL at Inspiring Arts Productions

IAP_logoInspiring Arts announces auditions for the world premiere of MCBRIDE’S CALL by Cincinnati’s Beth Kenniv, James Kenniv, and Jeff Smith.

Initial auditions by video submission, due May 1.
Callbacks tentatively scheduled for the Mason/West Chester area May 15-16.
Casting ages 10 and up.
Production runs August 8-16, 2020 at Parrish Auditorium (Miami Hamilton).

Join us this summer as we premiere a brand new musical! MCBRIDE’S CALL is the story of a young man ripped from his Irish homeland through the betrayal of his family. Justin finds himself a servant in an upper crust British home, but using his wit and charm, he climbs the ranks and makes a life for himself. When Ireland is struck with famine, Justin must decide if he will follow the call to mend his broken family and change the plight of his nation.

Full of original Irish music and a gripping story, MCBRIDE’S CALL offers a wide range of acting, singing and dancing opportunities. We are especially seeking Irish dancers and strong male vocalists. Come and be a part of the creative process as we bring this new musical to the stage for the first time!

Casts Announced for PYGMALION at Equality Theatre

MISC_Casting NewsReserve your evening on Saturday, April 25 at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 26 at 7:30pm to see PYGMALION performed by talented actors who have appeared at Beechmont Players, Ensemble Theater, Footlighters, Know Theater, Loveland Theater Company, Mariemont, Mason Community Players, TDW and Village Players among others.

The Equality Theater productions are being performed as a benefit to raise money for the Cincinnati area theaters who had to cancel their spring shows.  Details on where to watch the shows online and how to donate will be announced soon.

trueFAKES Moves to Free Live-Streaming on May 7 at trueTHEATRE

TRUE_logoDue to the current forecast of the length of the stay-at-home order, Memorial Hall has had to cancel all shows scheduled at their venue through the month of May, including “trueFAKES” (scheduled for May 7).

We do intend to be bringing you some stories that night, however! Keep reading for more on that, below.

Meanwhile, for those of you who already purchased tickets to “trueFAKES,” you have the option to move your ticket to our July 23rd show (“trueSUFFRAGE”) or accept a refund (prorated for subscribers, based on the subscription rate). Please choose whatever option is comfortable for you. If you do nothing by close-of-business on Thursday, April 23rd, a refund for your ticket(s) will be submitted. To move your ticket(s) or initiate your refund right away, please contact the Memorial Hall box office during their normal business hours (Tuesday through Friday, 1 – 6PM at 513-977-8838). [NOTE: For those of you who won, earned, or were otherwise gifted a ticket to “trueFAKES,” know that your tickets are being automatically moved to the July 23rd show.]

Now for some good news: we recognize the need, more than ever, for connection during these trying times, so we are currently working on bringing you “trueFAKES” via live-streaming — for FREE! We will be keeping to the same schedule (Thursday, May 7th, at 7:30 PM) . We will be writing you again, as the evening gets closer, to give you details about joining us via this new format.

Your feedback as to whether this is something you’d like to see more of will be invaluable to us as we continue to prepare for downstream events that may be hosted online, even after the stay-at-home order is lifted, so we hope you will join us online on May 7th to experience how this works for yourself!

Video Auditions Announced for BACK TO THE ’80S! at Dare to Defy Productions

D2D_logoWe are excited to announce auditions for BACK TO THE ’80S! This a professionally staged youth production (with featured adult roles) with stipends available for all performers. There is no minimum age (must be able to portray 14-18) and we will accept up to age 21.

Rehearsals will begin July 20th and will rehearse Monday-Thursday, 6-9pm with the possibility of some Saturday afternoon rehearsals. Performances are September 4-6th.

With the current Stay at Home order in place, we are requesting video submissions. Please send a 16 bar cut of an 80’s style song, as well as a one minute monologue. We ask that you please slate your name and age at the beginning of your audition video, as well as any role you are interested in. Don’t forget to include a headshot and resume as well. All materials can be sent to Norgaard@dare2defy.org by May 4th. We are hoping to have callbacks in person, but are monitoring the situation daily.

  • Corey Palmer(Young)
    The hero of the musical. He is an ordinary, likeable senior in high school that is dealing with typical issues including his love for Tiffany Houston.

    One of Corey Junior’s best friends. A likeable teenager just coming out of childhood and beginning adulthood.

    One of the “nice” boys who is naive and has difficulty with girls.

  • Cyndi Gibson
    A street-smart, boy-wary member of Tiffany’s posse who has a crush on Michael but always settles for other boys.

    One of the elite “Cool Girls,” she is the twin sister of Kim who loves to rock out as a backup to the group.

    The twin sister of Mel and friend of Cyndi. Kim is a party-loving cheerleader who does not do well in school.

    The coolest guy in the school who has the attention of all the girls. When the girls are not around, he is a mean manipulative oaf who picks on smaller kids.

    A popular, athletic guy who appears tough and is revered yet has little backbone without Michael.

  • Huey Jackson
    The final guy to round out the group of Michael Feldman’s friends. Not much else to be said – big hair, wears clothes that were cool at the time, but now just look like fluorescent mismatches of colour. Huey is an 80’s tragic – he is the only member of the cool group to go as far as wearing a white Michael Jackson glove – as was the fashion of the day!

    The sensitive school nerd. He is supremely intelligent, but his visions of life in the new millenium are always mocked.

    Debbie’s best friend. She is awkward and has trouble with boys, but is a nice girl.

Audition Announced for END OF THE RAINBOW at Actor’s Theatre, Fairborn

END OF THE RAINBOW by Peter Quilter is a savagely funny drama featuring a glorious ensemble of Judy Garland hits such as “Get Happy,” “The Man that Got Away,” and, of course, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The production follows Judy Garland on the comeback trail in 1968. The failed marriages, the suicide attempts, and the addictions are all behind her. At forty-six and with new flame Mickey Deans at her side, she seems determined to carry it off and recapture her magic. But lasting happiness always eludes some people, and there was never any answer to the question with which Judy ended every show: “If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, why, oh why, can’t I?”

The available roles for the production are:

  • Judy Garland: Female, 45-55, strong actress-singer/singer-actress who can credibly play Judy Garland and accurately portray Judy Garland through her songs, and the emotional highs and lows of her life, physically thin and looks older, this is not to be an impersonation but should be able to sing in the Garland style, must be able to portray the calm as well as manic periods of Garland’s life physically and vocally, good movement abilities and physicality are required. Note: For the auditions, actress must sing a Judy Garland song.
  • Mickey Deans: Male, 30-40. Non-Singing Role. The last husband to Judy Garland; her manager and former club owner; handsome, charming, and can be imposing physically; there is a lovely, caring, and charming side of him and at the same time he can be physically imposing and combative, dark and somewhat dangerous; he gives off the appearance of being caring, yet also has a selfish side.
  • Anthony: Male, 40-55. Non-Singing Role. English or Scottish accent required. Ability to play piano accompaniment throughout show required. Anthony is Judy’s accompanist and musical advisor as well as sometimes spiritual guide, gay and soft spoken with a clever edge, gentle and caring with an inner strength, ethical and honest, is capable of support and understanding, and yet is aware of the inevitable outcome ahead.
  • British Broadcasting Company Man/Hotel Porter/Assistant Stage Manager:
    Male, 30-45, strong character actor able to play various types and characters, must be able to speak various British dialects.
    The above characters are usually played by 1 person BUT I am willing to separate them into individual parts.
