The Drama Workshop Opens its 65th Season with NANA’S NAUGHTY KNICKERS

Bridget gets more than she bargained for when she moves in with her Nana in this hilarious farce. Tobie Braverman as Vera, Valeria Amburgey as Nana & Samantha Morrisey Timmons as Bridget. Photo by Elaine Volker image.

(Cheviot, Ohio) The Drama Workshop is gearing up for its 65th season of award-winning theatre with the hilarious comedy, Nana’s Naughty Knickers. The show runs from August 9rd through August 25th. Performances are at The Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave, Cheviot.

Bridget and her grandmother are about to become roommates. However, what Bridget saw as a unique opportunity to stay with her favorite nana in New York for the summer quickly turns into an experience she’ll never forget. It seems her sweet grandma is running an illegal boutique from her apartment, selling handmade naughty knickers to every senior citizen in the five-borough area! Mix in a landlord looking for any excuse to evict Nana from her rent-controlled apartment and a rookie policeman who’s taken with the lovely Bridget, and you have a recipe for an evening of non-stop laughter.

Valeria Amburgey plays Sylvia Charles, and says the strength of the character appealed to her. “All too often, older women are portrayed as frail, senile and weak.  Sylvia may be “old” in terms of the calendar,” she says. “But that young salesgirl still lives strong within her. Her spunkiness and sassiness keep her young in heart and spirit.”

This is Samantha Timmon’s first time on TDW’s stage, and says that the most challenging part is learning not to laugh at the hilarious actors all around her. “Nana’s Naughty Knickers is a hoot, and I am constantly entertained. I can’t wait to show it to our audiences!”

Tobie Braverman is a long-time TDW member, and agreed with Samantha’s take on the show. “Rehearsals for this show have been so much fun because the script is just laugh-out-loud funny. It is incredibly rewarding to hear a whole room of people laugh at something you say or do on stage.”

Nana’s Naughty Knickers is directed by Judy Barrens and produced by Elaine Volker. Cassie Stevens is the stage manager, leading a creative team composed of Dennis Murphy, Greg Schaper, Eric Bardes, Jason Cox, Sharon Buchtman, Vickie Rafferty, Clint Bramkamp, Wendy Williams, Lisa Wilsey, and Jessie Faye. The cast consists of veterans from around Cincinnati: Valeria Amburgey, C.J. Bossart, Tobie Braverman, Victoria Covarrubias, Nicholas Dunker, Stephanie Klein, Earl Lehkamp, Kent Smith, and Samantha Timmons.

Tickets for Nana’s Naughty Knickers are $18 each if ordered in advance, or $20 the day of the show. Show dates and times are August 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 8 pm, August 11, 18, and 25 at 2 pm, and August 22 at 7:30 pm. Shows frequently sell out, and reservations are strongly recommended. Tickets can be ordered through The Drama Workshop’s ticket line at 513.598.8303, or ordered online via the TDW website at www.thedramaworkshop.org.

THE DRAMA WORKSHOP was founded in 1954. TDW is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing education and promotion of the theatrical arts. The Drama Workshop is widely recognized as one of greater Cincinnati’s most accomplished community theater organizations, garnering dozens of awards annually from the Association of Community Theatres of Greater Cincinnati. TDW’s 2019 production of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” was selected to represent the Southwest Ohio region at the Ohio Community Theatre Association annual conference. TDW was also honored to represent the state of Ohio at the 2013 and 2017 American Association of Community Theatre regional conferences. The Drama Workshop has been recognized by the Cincinnati Preservation Association for their efforts to rehabilitate the former Glenmore Bowl into The Glenmore Playhouse. Prospective members, and individuals or businesses interested in becoming involved or in helping advance TDW’s mission are encouraged to contact the group through our website at www.thedramaworkshop.org, or by phone at 513-598-8303.
