Fairfield Footlighters is pleased to announce their 2019-20 Season starting with GEEZERS by Tommy Lee Johnston. Pathologically asocial Jack desperately needs human connection, as do the seniors in the retirement home where he’s landed his first job. But it’s the “geezers” who wind up helping Jack with his needs. Geezers, opening September 20 is a sentimental, heartwarming drama that introduces us to some beautiful and wonderful old people who are enjoying their golden years.
In November, the group takes on the true story of the 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt in SILENT SKY by Lauren Gunderson. When Henrietta begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she isn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories.
In February, Director Nicholas Brown is ready to offer a huge hit with YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN! This Tony and Drama Desk award-winning musical brings all your favorite PEANUTS characters to the stage.
Finally, the season ends with the hilarious romp, MAMA WON’T FLY written by Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, the writers of last season’s hit, The Savannah Sipping Society. Savannah has to get her mother, Norleen, from Alabama to California in time for her brother’s wedding. One problem. Mama won’t fly! Strap yourself in for a zany road-trip that crosses six states and includes both a family reunion and the bubbly, over-eager, bride-to-be!
