Cast Announced for THE FANTASTICKS at Mason Community Players

MCP_logoDirector Rebecca Brewer and Music Director Sara Davis are excited to announce the cast of the 2018 Season Opening Show, The Fantasticks.
El Gallo will be portrayed by David Manegold. MCP members will remember David from such roles as Prince Charming/Wolf in Into the Woods, Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Minstrel in Once Upon a Mattress, Young Joe in Damn Yankees, and Marcellus in The Music Man. Dave most recently appeared in the ensemble of theSweetheart Revue in 2016.

The roles of Matt and Luisa will be filled by Nick Godfrey and Willow Davis. Nick’s first theatre performance was his appearance as Simon of Legree in MCP’s production of The King and I. Since then, Nick has been studying musical theatre with aspirations of a career on the stage. Currently, he is part of the ensemble of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, a professional company dedicated to bringing live theatre to the young through a total family experience.

Willow will be appearing in her first production with MCP. No stranger to the stage, she has appeared with Queen City Productions, Bart’s Bards and Ryle Productions. She recently appeared as Clover in Animal Farm at Northern Kentucky University, where she is pursuing a degree in Theatre Arts. MCP is excited to welcome this accomplished soprano and actress to the Theatre 42 stage.

Veteran MCP performers Phil Catlin and Perry Gary will be portraying Luisa’s father and Matt’s father respectively. As Bellomy, Phil will be adding another character role to a long list of stage credits in both musical and non-musical productions alike. He most recently appeared in MCP’s Murder’s Bad but Monday Can Kill You. Phil is also an accomplished technician and has been invaluable to the administrative aspects of the troupe. Also valued for his many volunteer hours with administrative tasks for MCP, Board Member Perry Gary is excited to be bringing Hucklebee to life. Another member of the Murder’s cast, Perry most recently appeared in this year’s Pride & Prejudice. He will be co-directing next year’s A Sentimental Journey: A Salute to the USO with Ann Sullivan.

Prepared to shine as Henry and Mortimer are Joel Lind and Mary Beringer. Joel brings 14 MCP performances to this show along with countless stage credits from nearly every community theatre in Cincinnati. Character acting is his love and forte. His most recent MCP appearance was as Mr. Gardner in Pride & PrejudiceThe Fantasticks will be Mary’s first show with MCP. She comes to the troupe with theatre training and numerous stage credits. A graduate of Ursuline Academy and Hanover College, she has performed with the troupes from both schools. She has also performed with the Kentucky Shakespeare Company and is a member of the cast at the Ohio Renaissance Festival. She plans to put her training in stage combat and improvisation to good use in this production.

Rounding out the cast will be Allison Shaw in the critical role of The Mute. Allison studied theatre performance at the College of Charleston and musical theatre at CAP 21 Conservatory. Her most recent performance with MCP was this year’s summer musical, The Wizard of Oz. An accomplished dancer, Allison is currently appearing in Loveland Stage Company’s Cabaret. She is looking forward to the challenges that this non-speaking role demands of performers.

The Fantasticks
will be presented February 9, 10, 15, 16 & 17 at 8:00 PM and February 11 at 2:00 PM at Theatre 42. Tickets will be available online in December.
