Walterhoope’s THE MACBETHS Reimagines Shakespeare, Blending Theatre and Culinary Arts

Walterhoope, a new arts organization, in collaboration with Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center and In the Field will present THE MACBETHS, a reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth conceived by Walterhoope, served up with a meal sourced from local gardens.

The show will run for two nights only, Friday July 28 and Saturday July 29 at 7 PM at Baker Hunt, 620 Greenup Street, Covington, KY 41011. Single tickets, which include the meal, are now on sale for $12 at www.bakerhunt.org. The event is recommended for ages 12+.

How far would you go to get what you think you deserve? In Walterhoope’s THE MACBETHS, they explore Shakespeare’s classic tale of intrigue and ambition, prophecy and paranoia in the context of present-day America.

Directed by David Mavricos, starring Audrey Bertaux and William Vaughan, THE MACBETHS is Shakespeare braided into entirely new material: half Shakespeare, half Walterhoope. Celebrated Educational Chef Kristen St. Clair, owner of In the Field, will be creating a unique menu inspired by THE MACBETHS that will be served to the audience before the play begins. The play will also include original music by Kaleel Skeirik, composer and Professor of Music at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

“I want to create an environment where the audience can really connect with the artists involved,” says director David Mavricos. “What better way to do that than over a delicious, home-grown meal in Baker Hunt’s beautiful garden?”

JULY 17TH , 2017 – BELLEVUE, KY- LAST CALL FOR ALCOHOL is a sketch comedy interactive drinking game show, which juggles comedic sketches depicting the drinking culture and people who inhabit it. Whether it’s a tale of a serious relationship, exclusively being told through Karaoke, or some gals out for a “ladies night,” who are tired of having “girly drinks,” bought for them, when all they want is a nice cold beer. You’ll surely chuckle as you recognize some relate-able situations and characters, that you’ve rubbed elbows with, while having a drink.

Throughout the night, audience members will be invited to play along in games like Neighborhoods, where they will be tested to see how well they know the tri-state area. Other classic games like, Would You Rather, and Name that Tune, will have the audience laughing and singing together.

LAST CALL FOR ALCOHOL runs at 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays at Darkness Brewing in Bellevue, Kentucky. Patrons must be 21+.

ABOUT THE CREATORS
For the last three years, weAREproductions has been establishing a special brand of theatre. They brought the hits Fleetwood Macbeth, A Nightmare on Backstreet: A Boy Band Musical Parody, Maul Santa, Babysitter Massacre ’78: The Musical, Dating Incorporated, Smokey and the Bandit: The Musical, and BATES: An 80’s Psycho Musical Parody, in Chicago. A Nightmare on Backstreet received its first university run in the Fall of 2015, as well as an outdoor amphitheater run in Somerset, Kentucky, in the Fall of 2016.

This is weAREproductions first scheduled Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati production, since relocating to the area in the summer of 2017.

Since opening in 2016, our goal from the beginning was to be a local neighborhood brewery…so we were very picky when it came time to choose the location for our brewery and taproom. Bellevue was the perfect fit with its very active and energetic feel and its historic charm. When we saw how active the city was within the Art community, we knew it was where we wanted to be. Our plan to show local artist’s work as well as host original live music was a perfect fit for the already established art scene. City officials and local residents alike have welcomed us in way I feel no other city would have.

Organizational Overview
The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) is a professional organization for theatre education with more than 100,000 members nationwide. EdTA’s mission is shaping lives through theatre education by:  Honoring student achievement in theatre and enriching their theatre education experience; Supporting teachers by providing professional development, networking opportunities, resources, and recognition; and Influencing public opinion that theatre education is essential and builds life skills. EdTA operates the International Thespian Society (ITS), an honorary organization that has inducted more than 2 million theatre students since its founding in 1929.

EdTA, in collaboration with New York City-based companies iTheatrics and Music Theatre International (MTI), has created JumpStart Theatre, a three-year scalable pilot program designed to bring musical theatre into schools that currently do not have performing arts programs. JumpStart is modeled after the successful Broadway Junior Musical Theatre Program founded by the Shubert Foundation, iTheatrics and MTI in 2005 in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education.

Summary
From September thru December, the Program Mentor will coach and train teachers from (up to) three Cincinnati-area schools in all aspects of their preparation to produce a musical production with their students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

From September thru December:  Meet with teachers from up to three Cincinnati-area schools 1-2 times per month to check in on progress, assist with audition workshops, or provide guidance leading up to their auditions.

From January thru March:  Visit each school once a month for approximately 2 hours at a time during their rehearsals. Observe, offer guidance and support to teachers, as needed, on topics including directing, acting, blocking, time management, lighting, sound, costumes, props, etc.

Provide consistent, accurate, and timely communication.

On a weekly basis, provide detailed, written reports, with simple photo/video support, including program strengths and weaknesses for each school. Reports will be submitted electronically.

Attend and support 3 daylong boot camps each school year (9:00am-4:00pm on September 29, 2017, November 3, 2017, and January 19, 2018).

Attend at least one performance at each school (March-April 2018).

Assist with 1-2 rehearsals at each school in the month of April 2018 to prepare for the Showcase, polishing 1-2 songs from each school’s selected show.

Attend JumpStart Showcase in May 2018; serve as support staff, offering assistance as needed for backstage or front-of-house responsibilities.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Degree in theatre/theatre education, or comparable field, preferred.
  • At least one year of experience teaching both adults and children (ages 10-14).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Reliable transportation

Auditions Announced for DARK OF THE MOON at CenterStage Players

Since the successful publication of the book TWILIGHT a few years ago, the topic of a love triangle of a girl, a vampire, and a werewolf still captures the public’s imagination.

Based on “The Ballad of Barbara Allen” and set in southern Appalachia about 100 years ago, DARK OF THE MOON tells the story of John, a witchboy, who falls in love with Barbara Allen and wants to become human so he can marry her. The Conjur Woman allows him to do so provided that Barbara remains faithful to him for a year. As the townfolk start to realize John’s true nature, they begin a witchhunt for a real witch.

Audition location: North College Hill City Center, 1500 West Galbraith Road at Marvin Avenue

Dates: Sunday, August 6, 2-5PM; Monday, August 7, 7-9PM.  Callbacks: August 9, 7-9PM.

Rehearsals will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Rehearsals may be 1-3 nights per week depending upon role. The week of October 8 is a “no miss” tech week.

Performances: 6 shows– October 13, 14, 15 (matinee), 19, 20, 21, at Lockland High School Theatre (249 W Forrer, Cincinnati, OH 45215)

Auditions will be cold readings from the script which is written in the Appalachian dialect. Note that this is not “southern”. Because the script is challenging to read, it is suggested that– in advance–everyone auditioning review the video of a high school production to get a feel for the play and how its language is used poetically at:  www.vimeo.com/58252023 and www.vimeo.com/58252024.

In addition to the roles listed below, there are the minor roles of the townfolk. Altogether there are 25 speaking roles in the show. Everyone gets lines and hymns.Ages 17+ only– no children’s roles.

NOTE: The director is looking for actors who can carry a tune– mainly Mrs. Allen, Barbara, and Floyd. The entire cast sings hymns together in Act 2. These are downhome mountain folk, not professional singers and dancers. The “dancing,” in fact, is a total of about three minutes in the whole show, and it’s more movement than dance.

Auditions Announced for Sketch Comedy Show by The Company

TCO_logoThe Company is getting ready for their next sketch show, directed by Mr. Brandon Dunphy, presented August 12th.

We’ve got the sketches written — now we need actors to come be funny! We’ll be having open auditions for the show Wednesday, July 19th, 7-9pm at the Groesbeck Library meeting room (2994 W Galbraith Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45239).
