Newsboys Variety Show on March 7

BIC Newsies Variety Show logoCincinnati, OH – Cast members from the North American tour of Disney’s NEWSIES will present The Newsboys’ Variety Show, a cabaret benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 7:30pm at The Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater (650 Walnut Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202). Doors open at 7pm.

More than 20 cast members from the North American touring company of NEWSIES will present some of their favorite standards, pop songs, choreography, dances and more. Come see the Newsies like you’ve never seen them before, all while supporting an incredible organization. A silent auction will present opportunities to bid on backstage passes, tickets to see Disney’s NEWSIES at The Aronoff Center, merchandise and exclusive show memorabilia. All proceeds go to BC/EFA, which provides funds to over 450 service organizations from coast to coast.

BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS (BC/EFA) is the nation’s leading industry-based, non-profit AIDS fundraising and grant making organization. BC/EFA is the on-going, committed response from the American theater community to an urgent worldwide health crisis. Since its

founding in 1988, BC/EFA has raised over $250 million for critical services for people across the country with AIDS, HIV, and other serious illnesses. Locally, “The Newsboys’ Variety Show” will benefit Caracole, Inc, which provides safe and affordable housing to those suffering from HIV/AIDS. The Addams Family features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.

By chance, Kris Kringle, an old man in a retirement home, gets a job working as Santa for Macy’s. Kris unleashes waves of good will with Macy’s customers and the commercial world of New York City by referring parents to other stores to find exactly the toy their child has asked for. Seen as deluded and dangerous by Macy’s vocational counselor, who plots to have Kris shanghaied to Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital, Kris ends up in a court competency hearing. Especially at stake is one little girl’s belief in Santa. In a dramatic decision, the court confirms Kris as the true Santa, allowing Susan and countless other children to experience the joy of childhood fantasy.

Joe ultimately outsmarts Applegate, returns to his former self, and shepherds the Senators to the World Series.

Carrie Watts wants to go home. She has been living with her son and daughter-in-law in a small flat in Houston. She is concerned that she is in the way and she is longing to return to her childhood home of Bountiful. With each government check she receives she makes an attempt to go home. She is thwarted each time. Her son is afraid for her safety; her daughter-in-law is afraid she’ll lose the money. Carrie is afraid she may lose herself if she doesn’t get back to Bountiful.

Casting Requirements:

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
  • A résumé and headshot are not required but are appreciated.
  • Please bring all scheduling conflicts between March 1 and May 1, 2016.
  • The Director prefers that the family unit (Carrie, Ludie and Jessie Mae) be of the same race, but all are invited to audition

Characters:

  • Carrie Watts: Elderly, busy and lively. Really wants to go home.
  • Ludie Watts: Carrie’s son, married to Jessie Mae. Not a strong-willed person. 
  • Jessie Mae Watts: Carrie’s daughter-in-law, she rules the roost. Can be rather childish and demanding.

Cincinnati Landmark Productions, the parent theatrical organization for Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre is seeking to fill the position of Production Stage Manager for our 35th summer production, WEST SIDE STORY.

The Show: Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time.

The Production team: Tim Perrino, Director; Steve Goers, Music Director; Maggie Perrino, Choreographer

Requirements: Previous experience in stage management, company management and/or event coordination for live performances. Must be able to read and write and communicate effectively. Must have excellent time-management and problem solving skills.
Other Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and regular internet access/connection. Dependability is essential. Must be willing to work in a unique, collaborative, creative, dedicated, professional and fun environment.

What is CYPT? Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre (CYPT) provides a summer of great experience for performers and techies alike. Many of our members are now professional actors, singers, dancers, technicians and musicians. Others are Drama, Opera, Music Theatre, Voice, Music and Broadcasting majors at colleges all over the country. To date, over 2,200 teens have been a part of CYPT!

CYPT has produced 34 years of exciting shows, including: Jesus Christ Superstar, Footloose, 42nd Street, Children of Eden, Hello Dolly, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Anything Goes, The Pajama Game, Godspell, Les Miserables, Crazy For You, The Wedding Singer, Grease, Footloose, Hairspray and many more!

CYPT is the recipient of the Post-Corbett Award for Outstanding Arts Organization, plus, the National Recreation and Parks Arts and Humanities Award, and the Ohio State Award for Best Student Program.

CYPT brings together 100 teens each summer, on stage and off. In 2015, participants came from 38 different schools, from all over the Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana region.

Update to Cincinnati Music Theatre’s 2016-2017 Season Announcement

CMTDue to unforeseen circumstances, Cincinnati Music Theatre has chosen not to produce Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID in May of 2017.

Please know that we are working on a very exciting musical as a complement to our November 2016 production, BILLY ELLIOT, the Musical.
