Based upon the novel of the same name by French poet and playwright Victor Hugo, Les Misérables is one of the world’s most popular musicals, seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries. Set in France in the early 19th-century, Les Misérables is the story of Jean Valjean and his quest for salvation after serving 19 years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his starving sister’s child. Relentlessly tracked and hounded by police inspector Javert, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a student revolution, as a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade.

CCM’s A MOVEABLE FEAST Returns On Jan. 17, 2014

Back by popular demand, this unique benefit event showcases students from UC’s College-Conservatory of Music in an evening of live entertainment and by-the-bite cuisine.

CCM_logoCINCINNATI, OH—Cincinnati’s premiere fundraiser returns in early 2014 when the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) presents “A Moveable Feast.” The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, and this year’s “Feast” celebrates the theme “Starstruck.”

Guests can enjoy backstage tours and plan their own schedule of 20-minute samplings of student entertainment, including Jazz, Musical Theatre, Piano, Opera, Drama, Dance, Orchestra and Chamber Winds performances, along with E-Media video productions and much more.

This year’s artistic menu also includes performances by the Steel Drum Band and by CCM’s internationally acclaimed string quartet-in-residence, the Ariel Quartet, which will perform selections from its upcoming Beethoven Cycle—a series of six concerts in Corbett Auditorium in January, February and March of 2014.

The evening’s program will begin in Corbett Auditorium with a prelude performance featuring the Jazz Ensemble. The “Feast” will conclude with a performance by the Philharmonia Orchestra. Cocktails and dinner-by-the-bite provided by Jeff Thomas Catering will be served throughout the evening. BOEING, BOEING presented by The Carnegie and UC College-Conservatory of Music Drama through Nov. 24

Opening night’s performance of BOEING, BOEING was fine but still needed some polishing. The timing felt off and it didn’t have the pacing that makes a farce truly entertaining. The male leads almost reached the manic energy level needed near the end of the first act, but that momentum was lost over intermission. Berthe would have worked better with a French accent that allowed more of her lines to be understood.

Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized featured actor Shaun Sutton for his work in the BOEING, BOEING, co-produced by The Carnegie and the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music’s Drama department.

BOEING, BOEING is a comic farce featuring the antics of Bernard, a playboy who has juggled his romances with three beautiful flight attendants until a change in their schedules brings them to his flat all on the same night. Panelists particularly praised Shaun Sutton’s “impressive” portrayal of Robert, Bernard’s friend: “His use of facial expressions and body really helped sell the physical comedy of the role.”

Boeing, Boeing continues through November 24th. Tickets can be obtained online at www.thecarnegie.com.

Nominations for LCT awards will be determined and announced at the end of the season and winners awarded at the annual LCT gala in the spring.
