The Drama Workshop Presents BECKY’S NEW CAR

TDW_Beckys New CarBecky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and in a middling marriage — with no prospects for change on the horizon. Then one night, a socially inept and grief-struck millionaire stumbles into the car dealership where Becky works. Becky is offered nothing short of a new life … and the audience is offered a chance to join the wild ride. “Becky’s new Car” is a thoroughly original comedy with serious overtones, a devious and delightful romp down the road not taken.

When it premiered in 2008, Talkin’ Broadway said the play is a “the perfect two-hour escape from the endless political campaign, stock market collapse, and other daily woes of modern life. You won’t see a comedy this good on television or in the neighborhood multi-plex.”

Written by Steven Dietz. Directed by Tom Peters.

Auditions Announced for PLAY ON! at The Drama Workshop

TDW_VERTThe Drama Workshop and director Victoria Covarrubias are pleased to announce auditions for PLAY ON! by Rick Abbot on Monday Feb 19th and Thursday Feb 22nd, 2024 beginning each evening at 6PM. Auditions will be held at The Drama Workshop located at 3716 Glenmore Ave.

Synopsis: This is the hilarious story of a theatre group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty author who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance, in which anything that can go wrong, does. When the author decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theatre during the curtain calls, the audience is treated to a madcap climax and a thoroughly hilarious romp. Even the sound effects reap their share of laughter.

Please sign up for a time slot here:

Auditions Announced for DEAR WORLD at The Drama Workshop

TDW_VERTThe Drama Workshop, led by director Dennis Murphy and musical director Linda Abbott, will hold a second round of auditions for the musical DEAR WORLD on Monday, Jan 29. The auditions begin at 7 pm with doors opening at 6:30 for sign ups. Auditions will be held at the Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave. Cheviot, OH 45211.

The production is still in need of 3 middle-aged men, and 1-2 younger men. There are also still roles available for women. One character is mute, playable by any gender. We’d like to cast someone for that role who knows ASL, but someone willing to learn would be good too!

DEAR WORLD has music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, famous for such musicals as Hello, Dolly!, Mame and La Cage au Folles. Book is by Lawrence and Lee.

Based on a play called The Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux, the plot follows the eccentric Countess Aurelia and her struggles against the straitlaced authority figures in her life. She and her cohort defend their Parisian neighborhood against scheming and corrupt developers. The forces of idealism, love, and poetry win over those of greed, materialism, and science.

Performances for DEAR WORLD will be May 3 thru 19, 2024.

An accompanist will be provided for auditions. Please bring sheet music in your key with cuts clearly marked.  Also bring a headshot and resume, and any conflicts February 1 through May 19, 2024.
