The classic musical is the story of Laurey and the two rivals for her affections: Curly, a cowboy, and Jud, the hired farmhand. The play takes place in 1906 in an Indian territory of the American West during the time when Oklahoma was established as a state. It tackles class issues between the farmers and the cowmen in the still-developing, rugged landscape of a state in its infancy as characters struggle to find hope, love and the fulfillment of “the American Dream.” It is also a romantic tale of love. Curly and Laurey both have feelings for each other but have difficulty expressing it because of their stubbornness. –StageAgent.com

LSC Presents THE FANTASTICKS

Terry Kearns as Hucklebee & Steve Link as Bellomy.

Music by Harvey Schmidt, book and lyrics by Tom Jones. Directed by Connie Hatfield. Producer: Vicci Wengrzyn.

A timeless story of innocence undone, of illusion lost …and wisdom gained. A story of growing up and facing the adult world and, in the process, finding that love was waiting in your own backyard. Please mark your calendar to enjoy the Loveland Stage Company premier of the longest running musical in the world.

Before the mud of Woodstock there were the love songs of The Fantasticks. Before Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, before Elizabeth Taylor received an Academy Award for Butterfield 8, and before Wilt-the-Stilt completed the first of his seven consecutive years as basketball’s top scorer, “Try To Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” were part of our culture. The Fantasticks has charmed audiences ever since “Ike” was president. Each of our generations from bobby- soxers to the flower children to baby-boomers, to today’s cyberkids have embraced the timeless universality of the show.
