INTO THE WOODS Opens Next Week at LTC

LTC_logoJack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Cinderella are familiar stories to many people. But what about The Baker and his wife? And who is this narrator? “Into the Woods,” a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine tells us the stories of these familiar folks.

The Baker and his wife desperately desire a child, so they ask their friendly neighbor, who happens to be a witch, for help. She agrees to help them get the thing they want the most and, in the process, the rest get what they want, too. They should all now “live happily ever after,” but do they? “ Into the Woods” explores the question, “Is getting what you want worth what it costs?”

Lebanon Theatre Company presents this show, sponsored by the First National Bank of Warren County, that many people believe is one of Sondheim’s greatest works. Steven Haines is directing. The cast includes veterans of the LTC stage as well as newcomers. Veterans are Gina Beck, Chris Carter, Amy Edington-King, Melanie Highland, Timothy Larrick, Dance Morey, Karen Oehler, Kurt Percy, BJ Simpson, Bryan Wallingford, and Cindy Wilmes. Making their LTC debut are Brent Hoggatt and Abby Land.

Opening night on May 9, which includes dinner at the Golden Lamb and a ticket to the show, is sold out. Tickets are available for other shows including May 10, 16, & 17 at 8 p.m. and May 11 & 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 each and can be ordered on line at LTCplays.com or by calling (513) 228-0932.
