Directed by guest director Lisa Sanaye Dring of Circle X Theatre in Los Angeles.

This charming and disarming new drama features four of Cincinnati’s finest, back in action on the Know MainStage:

– Maggie Lou Rader as June, the secretive and sarcastic subject of Alice’s latest portrait project about the topography of women’s scars,
– Keisha Kemper as Weezy, the sharp-tongued but big-hearted goat who serves as our narrator, and
Jodie Linver as Bib, Weezy’s beloved goat mother (who has a few secrets of her own).

IN THE NIGHT TIME (BEFORE THE SUN RISES) Quick Review

IN THE NIGHT TIME (BEFORE THE SUN RISES) presented by Know Theatre of Cincinnati through Feb. 8. I attended the opening night performance.

For their first production of 2020, Know Theatre offers an intimate look at the trials and tribulations new parents can face with a newborn who doesn’t sleep through the night.

Brandon Burton and Elizabeth Chinn Molloy skillfully portray [Every] Man and Woman. The talented pair, under the smart and intricate direction of Brant Russell, give voice to the anxiety and fear I would expect most new, sleep-deprived parents experience.

The technical aspects of the show are well-done and work well together. Producing Artist Director Andrew Hungerford’s set design is smart and has some nice hidden elements that are exposed by his lighting design. Doug Borntrager’s sound design works very well and is integral to the story.

The non-traditional structure of the show was interesting, but for me it prevented the action from building any momentum or offering a strong over-arching story line. The numbered breaks between scenes reset the narrative a bit too much, giving it a repetitive voice. Thankfully the strong direction and acting kept me vested in the performance.

My rating: 4.25 out of 5.

Know Theatre’s 22nd Season Continues with the Return of the Monday Night Theatre Party SERIALS!

KTC_Serials 10Know Theatre’s 22nd Season continues with the return of the Monday night theatre party…
SERIALS! 10: THUNDERDOME
Jan 20th, Feb 8th, Feb 17th, Mar 2nd and Mar 16th
12 brand new plays enter…you vote who leaves

SERIALS!, Know Theatre’s iconic Monday night theatre party, returns for its triumphant 10th iteration this winter. Taking over our Underground performance space will be an eclectic group of familiar friends and new faces with entirely new stories to tell. Each week 5 plays take the stage with 15 minute episodes written, directed, and performed by local artists.

At the end of the night you decide which 3 plays will move on to the next week and which 2 are banished to a dystopian theatrical wasteland! But, never fear, all of the banished plays have the chance to come back at the end of Week 4, when the audience votes to resurrect two productions to perform one last time in Week 5.

We call it a theatre party because everyone gets to participate. The local artists get to make exciting, fast paced, new art and the audience decides which shows they would love to see more of. If you’ve never been, you’re missing out on all of the electric energy shared between everyone there. So, come out and use your vote to decide the winner this delightful theatrical deathmatch!
