If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is to be prepared for change.

Falcon Theatre had intended to close its 2021-2022 season with Spunk!, written by Zora Neale Hurston and adapted for the stage by George C. Wolfe. Unfortunately, the bluesy area premiere has been postponed but will be presented at a later date.

In its place Falcon Theatre will be wrapping up its season with A WALK IN THE WOODS by Lee Blessing. Much like its title suggests, the play introduces us to two arms negotiators who stroll through a wooded area above Geneva, Switzerland away from the tensions at the negotiating table. The two men, a Soviet diplomat and an American negotiator, eventually develop a relationship despite their obvious differences. While penned in the late 1980s, A WALK IN THE WOODS holds a significant amount of relevance today, particularly in light of the current violent struggles in Ukraine.

Directed by Ted Weil and featuring Ryan J. Poole and Jay Dallas Benson, the season closer will take over the same performance schedule initially intended for Spunk!.

Performances are on May 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, and June 2, 3, 4, 2022. All performances are at 8:00 PM EST. Tickets prices are $25 for adults and $15 for students with ID. Patrons enjoy a $5 discount for Thursday performances. Visit falcontheater.net to reserve seats.

(Newport, KY) — Falcon Theatre closes its triumphant 2021-2022 season with Spunk!, written by Zora Neale Hurston and adapted for the stage by George C. Wolfe.

Spunk! is a raucous, charming, blues-infused look at love, revenge, jealousy, and the fine art of the hustle. Hurston’s ear for vernacular and character are infused with gritty, dry wit and set to an irresistible score of rich, soulful music that carry the audience on a timeless journey through the lives of these vibrant African-American characters in the first half of the 20th century.

Spunk! is directed by Candice Handy and features a five-person cast that includes Bryana Bentley, Jasmine Bouldin, Darryl Hilton, Jayvon Shack, and R. DeAndre Smith. Blues music will be arranged and performed by Nathan Singer of The Whiskey Shambles.

(Newport, KY) — Falcon Theatre continues its 2021-2022 season with Silent Sky, from America’s most-produced living playwright Lauren Gunderson.

A celestial romance and true story of discovery, this riveting play explores the life and career of Henrietta Swan Leavitt (1868-1921) as she fearlessly asserts herself in the male-dominated world of early astronomy. Hired by the Harvard Observatory as a “human computer” to catalog the stars, Henrietta’s story plays out against a landscape of early feminism and universe-revealing science, reminding us all what we can achieve when we allow curiosity and wonder into our lives. As Henrietta devotes herself to measure the light and distance of stars, she discovers that she must also take measure of her life on Earth. Silent Sky explores Henrietta’s tension in reconciling her dedication to science with her family obligations and, ultimately, the possibility of love.

Silent Sky is directed by Bridget Leak and features a five-person cast that includes Jordan Trovillion (Henrietta Leavitt), Hannah Gregory (Margaret Leavitt), Nathan Tubbs (Peter Shaw), Tara Williams (Annie Cannon) and Martha Slater (Willamina Fleming).

Falcon Theatre is making the safety of our artists and our audience a priority and continues to follow CDC and Local Health guidelines. As previously announced, all ticket holders must wear masks and show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 test to attend a performance.
