ETC’s MRS. MANNERLY Earns LCT Nomination

Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati’s MRS. MANNERLY with an LCT nomination for lead actor (Raymond McAnally) as well as distinguishing it as a recommended production.

This irreverent, yet poignant comedy is inspired by the hilarious memories of a childhood etiquette class, wherein playwright Jeffrey Hatcher conjures up the world of a ten-year-old studying manners. Set in 1967, Mrs. Mannerly is a demanding teacher, and no student in her thirty-six years of etiquette classes has ever achieved a perfect score. But, when he discovers her secret past, Young Jeffrey is determined to be the first to achieve this feat.

Raymond McAnally’s performance, as Jeffrey as well as multiple other characters, was described by the panellists as “exceptional…his attention to physical detail, the way he delineated the various characters and voices he portrayed, his ease and command of each moment, and his obvious affection for the character was a joy to behold.”

Panelists praised the production as “a charming play that was laugh-out-loud funny from start to finish” and “one of the most delightful shows I have seen at ETC.”

Mrs. Mannerly continues through October 28th. Tickets can be purchased at www.ensemblecincinnati.org.

Final LCT awards will be determined at the end of the season and announced at the LCT gala in the spring.

The League of Cincinnati Theatres was founded in 1999 to strengthen, nurture and promote Cincinnati’s theatre community. Annie Fitzpatrick as Margie, Margaret Ivey as Kate & Chris Clavelli as Mike. Photo by Ryan Kurtz.

Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati’s “Good People” as a recommended production.

This regional premiere of a work by Pulitzer Prize winning writer David Lindsay-Abaire explores the struggles, shifting loyalties and unshakeable hopes that come with having next to nothing in America. Laid off from her job at the dollar store in South Boston, Margie Walsh goes to seek out the one who got away—both from “Southie” and from her. Instead, she finds herself in the ‘burbs and out of her element, facing the question: is opportunity granted or earned?

Panelists praised the production as “relevant to our time,” “moving,” and “incisive.” One commented, “All of the elements in this production – technical, acting, staging – worked perfectly.”

“Good People” continues through September 23rd. Tickets can be purchased at www.ensemblecincinnati.org.

Final LCT awards will be determined at the end of the season and announced at the LCT gala in the spring.
