2017-2018 Season Announced by Cincinnati Music Theatre

cmt_logoCINCINNATI, OH – Downtown’s community theatre, Cincinnati Music Theatre (CMT), invites you to join us as we proudly announce our 2017- 2018 season!

This fall, CMT gives you a reason to rejoice as we present the smash Broadway hit, SISTER ACT, directed by Mike Fielder! Based upon the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act follows disco diva Deloris Van Cartier, who, after witnessing a murder, is placed in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, SISTER ACT will leave audiences breathless.

Performances: November 2017

SISTER ACT is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Next spring, join us for FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, directed by Dennis Murphy! Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof’s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. With iconic and beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is the perfect mix of audience-pleasing humor and heart.

Performances: May 2018

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

We hope you will join us for this wonderful season! Specific production dates will be finalized in the coming weeks. All performances will be held in the Jarson Kaplan Theatre at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.
