Covedale Center Marquee Series:

A Chorus Line                             September 3 – 27, 2015

Conceived and Originally Directed and Choreographed by Michael Bennett; Book by James Kirkwood & Nicholas Dante; Music by Marvin Hamlisch; Lyrics by Edward Kleban; Co-Choreographed by Bob Avian; Original Broadway production produced by the New York Shakespeare Festival, Joseph Papp, Producer, in association with Plum Productions, Inc.

A CHORUS LINE is a stunning musical-vérité about a chorus audition for a Broadway musical. It tells of the achingly poignant ambitions of professional Broadway gypsies to land a job in the show, and is a powerful metaphor for all human aspiration. Memorable musical numbers include I Can Do That, At the Ballet, Dance: Ten; Looks: Three, The Music and the Mirror, What I Did for Love, One (Singular Sensation) and I Hope I Get It. It is a brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama. The show was instantly recognized as a classic.

Fox On The Fairway                        October 22 – November 15, 2015
Book by Ken Ludwig

A tribute from Ken Ludwig (Lend Me A Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo) to the great farces of the 1930s and 1940s, The Fox On the Fairway takes audiences on a hilarious romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club. Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it’s a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers’ classics. A charmingly madcap adventure about love, life, and man’s eternal love affair with… GOLF!

Mary Poppins                                                November 27 – December 20, 2015

Original Music and Lyrics by  Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman; Book by  Julian Fellowes

New Songs and Additional Music and Lyrics by  George Stiles and Anthony Drewe; Co-Created by  Cameron Mackintosh

Everyone’s favorite practically perfect nanny takes the stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure.  Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven TONY Awards, including Best Musical. The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.” Features heartwarming songs like:  “Chim Chim Cher-ee”, “Jolly Holiday”, “A Spoonful of Sugar”, Let’s Go Fly A Kite” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

Chapter Two                                             January 21 – February 14, 2016
By Neil Simon

Recent widower, writer George Schneider, is encouraged by his younger brother Leo to start dating again. Which sends George into even more depression after a series of bad matches. Then Leo comes up with Jennie Malone and she’s a keeper. Still, it’s a bumpy trip on the road to Dreamland for these not-so-young lovers. George and Jennie stumble on, overcoming both their hesitation on the rebound and emotional neediness. In a hilarious, farcical subplot, Leo has a fling with Faye, Jennie’s neurotic married friend. “Lovely whimsical and touching and always funny…most of the time downright hilarious.” -New York Post

She Loves Me                                                 March 10 – April 3, 2016
Book by  Joe Masteroff; Music by  Jerry Bock; Lyrics by  Sheldon Harnick; Based on a play by Miklos Laszio

An intimate and touching show, featuring music by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler On The Roof) and book by Joe Masteroff (Cabaret), She Loves Me was nominated for five TONY Awards in 1964, the 1993 Broadway revival won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the 1994 Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance.  Set in a 1930’s European perfumery, we meet shop clerks Amalia and Georg, who more often than not, don’t see eye to eye. After both respond to a “lonely hearts advertisement” in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown. The movies “The Shop Around The Corner” and “You’ve Got Mail” are both based on this romantic tale!

Brigadoon                                                         April 28 – May 22, 2016
Book and Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner; Music by Frederick Loewe; Original dances created by Agnes de Mille

One of the most intriguing and delightful aspects of a musical show is its ability to open up a whole new world to both its audience and cast. The show that does this better than any other is BRIGADOON. This is a Scottish fantasy about a town that disappears into the Highland mist and returns for only one day every one hundred years. Songs include:  Waitin’ for My Dearie, I’ll Go Home with Bonnie Jean, Come to Me, Bend to Me, Almost Like Being in Love, There But for You Go I, The Heather on the Hill and My Mother’s Weddin’ Day. This is a tribute to simplicity, goodness and the power of true love.

Warsaw Federal Incline Theater District Series:

Extremities                                   September 30 – October 18, 2015
By William Mastrosimone

In a vicious encounter, Marjorie is attacked in her home by a would-be rapist. She manages to turn the tables on him, imprisoning him in her fireplace. But when her roommates come home to find the assailant bound and blinded, tensions rise to a raging fever pitch. All the players must now deal with their own pasts and their future decisions – should the attacker pay with his life or not?  A searing story that featured Farah Fawcett on Broadway and in the film.

Rent                                                                     December 2 – 20, 2015
Book, Music and Lyrics by  Jonathan Larson

An inspiring musical about friends struggling with addiction, poverty, AIDS and most of all, love. Winner of the TONY Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Rent has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s story follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians surviving and creating in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams makes for an unforgettable, groundbreaking musical.

Avenue Q                                    February 17 – March 6, 2016
Music and Lyrics by  Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx   Book by  Jeff Whitty

This laugh-out-loud musical tells of a recent college grad who discovers that Avenue Q is not your ordinary neighborhood. He and his new-found “friends” struggle to find jobs, dates, and the ever-elusive purpose in life. Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention LOTS of puppets, Avenue Qis a truly unique show that has become a favorite for audiences everywhere. For a show with lots of adult issues, this is one puppet-filled comedy, where puppets are friends, monsters are good and life lessons are learned.

Glengarry Glen Ross                   April 6 – 24, 2016
By David Mamet

For two days we see into the lives of four desperate Chicago real estate agents as they lie, bribe, betray, flatter, intimidate and even burglarize their way to elusive, illusory success. As they do anything to “win” – selling worthless real estate to unwitting prospective buyers – the men hustle others and fool themselves into thinking that they have what it takes to make an “honest” living.

1776
July 8 – July 26, 2015
Book by Peter Stone Music and Lyrics by Sherman Edwards Based on a concept by Sherman Edwards

Witness the birth of a nation as our forefathers struggle to craft the Declaration of Independence.
The seminal event in American history blazes to vivid life in this most unconventional of Broadway hits. 1776 puts a human face on the pages of history as we see the men behind the national icons: proud, frightened, uncertain, irritable, charming, often petty and ultimately noble figures determined to do the right thing for a fledgling nation. It’s the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence…if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! 1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, and Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence. 1776 is a funny, insightful, and compelling drama with a striking score and legendary book.

Matthew Wilson, Director/Choreographer;
Michael Kennedy, Music Director; Melanie D. Hall, Production Stage Manger
