With Four Special Performances this June

CINCINNATI, OH – Following critically acclaimed runs in NYC, Hollywood, and Edinburgh, Peter Michael Marino’s interactive SHOW UP KIDS! makes its Cincy Fringe debut June 1 & 2, 8 & 9. This entirely unique, semi-improvised, family show for kids 3-10 years old puts a comedic twist on the traditional kids’ show. When the main attraction doesn’t show up, Pete enlists the kids (and adults) to help create a show from set to sound, plot to props, and costumes to characters. What could possibly go wrong?

Marino’s “Show Up” received a Critic’s Pick at the 2018 Cincy Fringe, and he returns with this junior version as part of the Family Friendly Fringe at Cincy Fringe 2019. Tickets are pay-what-you-can.

★★★★★ “Marino handles the unpredictability of working with children in an improvised environment with great skill and grace, putting on a fantastic performance which my children were talking about long after the show.” – Backstage on the Fringe

“Fantastic fun! A one-man whirling dervish of energy, comic timing, physical agility, and out and out hilarity. The kids were absolutely mesmerized!” – The Front Row Center

“This show is not like any other show. Usually, the kids are just watching things happen, but here, kids are actually part of the show. Pete definitely has a superpower!”- Kids News NYC

★★★★ “Hilarious! Marino knows what kids find funny. A show of this caliber is an opportunity to show up for!” – The Wee Review

All-New Hilarious Tall Tales and Songs
at the 2019 Cincinnati Fringe Festival

(CINCINNATI, OHIO)  The following is NOT a typo: 90 Lies an Hour is the 4th Show in Paul Strickland’s Trailer-Park Tall-Tale Trilogy. And it’s coming to the Cincinnati Fringe this June.

Paul Strickland’s Ain’t True and Uncle False live in Big-Fib Trailer-Park cul-de-sac, which is a trailer-park in the shape of a cul-de-sac in a town called Big-Fib. “It’s a small community way down south… just off the coast of “Factual.” In fact, if you leave “Factual” and head due south you’ll pass “Big-Fib” on your way to “Bald-Faced.” Obviously, if you get to “Bald-Faced”… you’ve gone too far.”

90 Lies an Hour is a hilarious and heartfelt collection of stories and songs never heard outside of the Trailer-Park until now.

ABOUT THE PERFORMER
Paul is a local creator who actually moved to Cincinnati because of this city’s amazing creative opportunities – specifically, the Cincinnati Fringe Festival, where he has been creating hit new shows for the last six years.

Paul’s Fringe shows have sold out every year that he has performed at Cincy Fringe. Past shows: ExTrashVaganza! (2018), Balls of Yarns (2017), My Left Teeth (2016), Tales Too Tall for Trailers (2015), Papa Squat (2014), and Ain’t True & Uncle False (2013).

He tours his work professionally across the U.S. and Canada.

“… the best tall-tales you can hear without actually having to risk a stabbing in the back of a boxcar.” – Edmonton Vue Weekly

THIS PAST YEAR
This has been a big year for Paul:

  • He performed Off-Broadway with Erika Kate MacDonald in their award-winning shadow puppet horror play 13 Dead Dreams of “Eugene.”
  • His solo show Balls of Yarns was held over at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival, the largest Fringe in North America.
  • He was invited to tell a story at the prestigious National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

DESCENT: A Murder Ballad to Premiere at Cincinnati Fringe Festival

(Cincinnati, OH — April 23, 2019) –– Featured as part of the Primary Lineup in this year’s Cincinnati Fringe Festival, DESCENT: A Murder Ballad, with a book and music by Hannah Gregory and directed by Caitlin McWethy, will premiere on Sunday, June 2 at 8:30pm at Know Theatre.

The folk musical about marriage, miscarriage, and murder began development in 2015 as a concept album featuring three songs before it morphed into a musical featuring a nonlinear plotline and dialogue. Development escalated in 2018 when Gregory received an Artist Enrichment grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women to finish and produce the show. DESCENT: A Murder Ballad’s involvement in Cincinnati Fringe Festival marks its official premiere to the public.

While audiences can expect beautiful language, original music, and timeless themes like self-discovery and good versus evil, they can also prepare to explore darker themes like the effects of miscarriage, relationship deterioration, and the female vigilante. Additionally, DESCENT: A Murder Ballad seeks to move women’s experiences to the forefront of theatrical storytelling both through the script and through the artistic leadership of the show itself.

The cast features Tess Talbot in the lead role Annie with a supporting cast of Wes Carman as Paul, AJ Baldwin as Ruby, Ellyn Broderick as Mabel, Hannah Jones-Diaz as Vada, Dylan Shelton as The Butcher, Charlie Roetting as Abraham, Hannah Gregory as The Angel, and Maliyah Gramata-Jones as Swing

Fringe-goers can catch DESCENT: A Murder Ballad at Know Theatre on the following dates and times:

  • Sunday, June 2 at 8:30pm
  • Thursday, June 6 at 6:30pm
  • Saturday, June 8 at 7:00pm
  • Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30pm
  • Thursday, June 13 at 6:30pm

RATED PG-13. Trigger warning: miscarriage and violence

Casting Call for Two Cincy Fringe Roles

CFF_Orange logo text onlyTwo actors needed for Cincinnati Fringe performances:

  1. Mara, a low-functioning autistic teen. She might come off as strange, but inside are hidden depths and a big secret. Age 15-18 female, must be okay with mature topics.
  2. Jacob, a sarcastic and sardonic trans male teen. He doesn’t let his depression stop him from having an opinion on pretty much everything, and no matter the situation, he probably would rather be somewhere else. Age 15-18, transgender male, must be okay with mature topics.

Schedule is 2-3 rehearsals a week in the evening throughout April and May, and show dates on June 1, 5, 7, 9, and 13. Contact Aria Schottelkotte at Macremae101@gmail.com with a video of a one minute dramatic monologue, headshot, and resumé.
