Production Generates Estimated $10 Million Benefit to Local Economy

Cincinnati, Ohio (Tuesday, June 12, 2018) – Disney’s ALADDIN is celebrating a sold-out, two-week premiere engagement in Cincinnati, which concluded on June 10 at the Aronoff Center. The touring production, which the Cincinnati Enquirer called, “an outright spectacle; glitzy, playful, sassy and extravagant,” grossed over $2.8 million at the box office and entertained more than 40,000 theatergoers during 16 performances.

It is estimated that the Cincinnati engagement of ALADDIN generated an economic benefit of nearly $10 million to the city from travel, hotels, restaurants, parking and other businesses patronized by both theatergoers and production staff.  This figure is based upon a Touring Broadway League report which found that, on average, Broadway tours contribute to the local metropolitan area an economic impact 3.27 times the gross ticket sales.

“Hosting the Cincinnati premiere engagement of ALADDIN early in its tour has been an honor for us, and an absolute delight for our Queen City audiences,” said Genevieve Holt, General Manager-Midwest for Broadway Across America.  “Our guests have been abuzz for two weeks straight about this exquisite production. Broadway in Cincinnati is pleased to continue our longtime relationship with Disney Theatrical Productions, whose touring shows always deliver top-tier Broadway entertainment that Tri-State audiences love.”

“We were delighted to bring ALADDIN to Cincinnati, where the audiences are always so warm and welcoming,” said Jack Eldon, Vice President, Domestic Touring and Regional Engagements, Disney Theatrical Productions. “The response to this glorious production was overwhelming and we thank the Cincinnati community and our partners at Broadway In Cincinnati for a sensational engagement.”

ALADDIN opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre to critical acclaim on March 20, 2014 and quickly established itself as one of the biggest new blockbusters in recent years, breaking 12 New Amsterdam Theatre house records and welcoming over seven million people worldwide. Its global footprint has expanded to include productions in Tokyo, Hamburg and London, in addition to the two U.S. productions.

About ALADDIN
Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the show features music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Sister Act), lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (Evita, Aida) and four-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Beguelin, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).

ALADDIN, adapted from the Academy Award®-winning animated Disney film and centuries-old folktales including “One Thousand and One Nights,” is brought to fresh theatrical life in this bold new musical.  Aladdin’s journey sweeps audiences into an exotic world of daring adventure, classic comedy and timeless romance.  This new production features a full score, including the five cherished songs from the Academy Award-winning soundtrack and more written especially for the stage.

The animated film ALADDIN was released by Disney in 1992 and was a critical and box office smash, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year.

The film won the Oscar for Best Original Score and introduced the hit song “A Whole New World,” which won the second of the film’s two Academy Awards as Best Original Song.  The Peabo Bryson/Regina Belle recording of the tune soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

ALADDIN is designed by seven-time Tony-winning scenic designer Bob Crowley, six-time Tony-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz, two-time Tony-winning costume designer Gregg Barnesand sound designer Ken Travis.

The production team also includes illusion designer Jim Steinmeyer, hair designer Josh Marquette and makeup designer Milagros Medina-Cerdeira.  The music team is headed by music supervisor and music director Michael Kosarin, who also created the vocal and incidental music arrangements, joined by orchestrator Danny Troob and dance music arranger Glen Kelly.

Lincoln Center Theater’s critically acclaimed production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s THE KING AND I directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher won four 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, THE KING AND I boasts a score which features such beloved classics as “Getting To Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.”

Set in 1860’s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.
