HRTCWe’re proud to announce the lineup for our 27th season of producing professional theatre in downtown Dayton. This diverse collection of plays and musicals will make you laugh, will make you think and will inspire you with the power and presence that comes with a live performance in the intimate Loft Theatre.

The 2013-2014 Eichelberger Loft Series Lineup:

A Mid-life Comedic Crisis
Becky’s New Car
by Steven Dietz
September 12 – 29, 2013

Becky Foster is stuck in neutral—middle aged, in middle management and a middling marriage—until an honest misunderstanding with a wealthy widower offers her the chance at an exciting double life…and she takes it. Now she’s frantically juggling to keep her two worlds apart before everything threatens to come crashing down on her. It’s enough to drive Becky off a cliff, and she’s taking the audience along for the ride!

A Classic Musical Tradition
Fiddler on the Roof
book by Joseph Stein
music by Jerry Bock
lyrics by Sheldon Harnick
based on Sholem Aleichem’s stories by special permission of Arnold Perl
October 31 – November 17, 2013

Welcome to the village of Anatevka, where tradition is everything. But change is sweeping across the land and into poor dairyman Tevye’s house. When his daughters want to break with the old ways and choose their own husbands, Tevye must decide which he loves more – his family’s happiness or his long-held beliefs. Filled with timeless songs and wonderful dance numbers, this Broadway blockbuster is a heartwarming tale for young and old.

Tony Award® Winner for Best Musical
A Ground-breaking Cultural Milestone
Torch Song Trilogy
by Harvey Fierstein
January 30 – February 16, 2014

Poignant and filled with witty, sharp humor, Fierstein’s deeply personal story of self-discovery redefined an era in gay America. What begins as a chance encounter in a New York nightclub leads drag-queen Arnold Beckoff in a hilarious, yet touching, pursuit of love, happiness and a life of which he can be proud. From a failed affair with a reluctant lover, to a committed relationship with a young model and the promise of a stable family, Arnold’s struggle for acceptance meets its greatest challenge in his intolerant mother.

Tony Award® Winner for Best Play
A Revealing Family Drama
Other Desert Cities
by Jon Robin Baitz
March 27 – April 13, 2014

The Wyeth family’s Palm Springs Christmas reunion is already a tense affair between conservative parents Lyman and Polly, former GOP celebrities, their two grown children and Polly’s liberal alcoholic sister, Silda. Any sense of peace vanishes completely when daughter Brooke, a once promising novelist, announces she is about to publish a tell-all memoir that threatens to tarnish her prominent family’s past and reopen old wounds. As Brooke confesses her true motivations behind the book, she learns the real history is more shocking than she ever knew.

Pulitzer Prize for Drama Nominee and Tony Award® Nominee for Best Play
A New Country Legend
Play It by Heart
music by David Spangler and Jerry Taylor
lyrics by David Spangler, Jerry Taylor and R.T. Robinson
book by Brian Yorkey
based on an original story by R.T. Robinson
June 12 – 29, 2014

It’s the passing of the torch in a country music dynasty as superstar Jeannine Jasper’s long career draws to a close. The changing world of the music industry is about to thrust her little sister, Jamie Lynn, into the spotlight. When an old flame comes calling, Jeannine envisions a quiet life offstage, but Jamie Lynn’s wild ways may cut short her time on top. Stage mother Naomi tries to keep control of her daughters until a scandalous secret comes to light and threatens to tear them apart. A musical about heartbreak and healing, this regional premiere comes alive with an exciting new score filled with classic and contemporary country songs and a book by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal).

SBP Announce 2013-2014 Season

SHOWBIZ PLAYERS ANNOUNCE 2013-2014 SEASON

SBPCARRIE…THE MUSICAL
Sept. 20-29, 2013

Carrie White is a misfit. At school, she’s an outcast who’s bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she’s at the mercy of her loving but cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie’s just discovered she’s got a special power, and if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it…

Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, the musical of Carrie hasn’t been seen since its legendary 1988 Broadway production. Now, the show’s original authors have joined with director Stafford Arima (Altar Boyz) and MCC Theater for a newly reworked and fully re-imagined vision of this gripping tale. Set today, in the small town of Chamberlain, Maine, Carrie features a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose).

Monty Python’s SPAMALOT
May 30-June 8, 2014

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful showgirls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. Did we mention the bevy of beautiful showgirls?

All performances will be held at the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center, 1028 Scott Blvd, Covington, KY 41011. More information will be coming soon to our website www.showbizplayers.com. If you have any question, call Bunny Arszman at 513-325-7842.

CMT Announces 2013-14 Season

CMT “He who would learn to fly must first learn to stand…walk…run…and dance.” -Friedrich Nietzsche

Cincinnati Music Theatre (CMT) is proud to announce their high stepping, high flying 2013-14 season.

The season will take off on the right foot in November 2013 as CMT presents the Pulitzer Prize winning musical A CHORUS LINE. Set in an empty theatre, on a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete. For 17 dancers, this audition is the chance of a lifetime. It’s what they’ve worked for – with every drop of sweat, every hour of training, every day of their lives. It’s the one opportunity to do what they’ve always dreamed — to have the chance to dance in a Broadway show. Brian Anderson, who contributed award winning choreography to CMT’s 42nd STREET and HAIRSPRAY, will direct and choreograph this stunning musical-verite, a brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compelling human drama. This musical for anyone who’s ever had a dream and put it all on the line features a book by James Kirkwood and Nicolas Dante with music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban.

Come spring 2014, audiences will be transported to that place “where dreams are born and time is never planned” when CMT presents the high flying classic PETER PAN. Skip Fenker, who has directed CMT’s productions of CHICAGO, DROWSY CHAPERONE and HAIRSPRAY among others, will direct this tale of the boy who wouldn’t grow up. This timeless, enchanting musical is filled with fantasy, adventure, Lost Boys, Indians and Pirates. Celebrating its 60th Anniversary of its Broadway debut, PETER PAN is based on the play by James M. Barrie and features music by Moose Charlap and lyrics by Carolyn Leigh with additional music by Jule Styne and additional lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. This favorite of children of all ages will make you believe again as it flies into your heart, full of faith, trust, and fairy dust!

Don’t miss this season!!

All performances are at the Jarson-Kaplan Theatre of the Aronoff Center.
