2015-2016 Season Announced by SSCC Theatre

SSCC_logoBECKY’S NEW CAR by Steven Dietz
Nov. 6-8, 2015

Have you ever been tempted to flee your own life? Becky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and in a middling marriage—with no prospects for change on the horizon. Then one night a socially inept and grief-struck millionaire stumbles into the car dealership where Becky works. Becky is offered nothing short of a new life…and the audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun in a way that most plays wouldn’t dare.

THE GREAT GATSBY by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Adapted by Simon Levy
Aug. 1-3, 2016

Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, passionately pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway, a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn into their world of obsession, greed and danger. The breathtaking glamour and decadent excess of the Jazz Age come to the stage in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, and in Simon Levy’s adaptation.

VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE by Christopher Durang
July 22-24

Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha.

2015-2016 Season Announced by Oxford Area Community Theatre

OXACT_logoThe Board of Directors of the Oxford Area Community Theatre is pleased to announce the productions we have chosen for the 2015-2016 season. They include:

THE BELLE OF AMHERST (October) Written by William Luce. Directed by Mike McVey. Featuring Claire Squance.

“In The Belle Of Amherst, Emily Dickinson welcomes audiences into her lifelong Amherst homestead in mid-19th century Massachusetts. While Dickinson found solace in solitude through much of her life, acclaimed playwright William Luce weaves her poems, diaries, and letters into a one-woman portrait of one of America’s greatest and most prolific poets, mixing Dickinson’s encounters with close friends and family with the poet’s own, often amusing observations. ‘Full of passion and poetry and heart’ (New York Daily News), The Belle Of Amherst illuminates a brilliant wordsmith through the words she left behind.” (description fromhttp://belleofamherstplay.com/)

LOST IN YONKERS (February) Written by Neil Simon. Directed by Tyler Gau.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1991. “By America’s great comic playwright, this memory play is set in Yonkers in 1942. Bella is 35-years-old, mentally challenged and living at home with her mother, stern Grandma Kurnitz. As the play opens, ne’r do-well son Eddie deposits his two young sons on the old lady’s doorstep. He is financially strapped and taking to the road as a salesman. The boys are left to contend with Grandma, with Bella and her secret romance, and with Louie, her brother, a small-time hoodlum in a strange new world called Yonkers.” (description from http://www.samuelfrench.com/p/2758/lost-in-yonkers)

ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID (May) Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. Directed by Carly Jo Baumgartner.

“In this hilarious comedic romp, four friends have sworn to keep the promise they made on the night of their Senior Prom: to be in each other’s weddings … no matter what. More than thirty years later, these Southern friends-for-life are still making ‘the long walk’ for each other, determined to honor that vow. Libby Ruth, the hopeful romantic with the perfect marriage, believes – in spite of all evidence to the contrary – that her friends can find the very same happiness. Headstrong Deedra’s ‘rock-solid’ union hangs by a thread when she discovers her husband of many years has not only a wandering eye but the hands to match. Monette, flashy, high-spirited and self-involved, continues to test her friends’ love and patience with all-too-frequent trips down the aisle. And salt-of-the-earth, tree-hugging Charlie discovers – the hard way – that marital bliss is not the end of her rainbow and panics in outrageous style when the opportunity presents itself.” (description fromhttp://www.joneshopewooten.com/always.htm)
