CAA_Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer logo(Cincinnati, OH – Aug 24, 2015)  – In 1964, the beloved stop-motion animated television classic, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, made its network television debut delighting audiences across the country. The longest-running and highest-rated television special comes to life, live on stage with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical – http://www.rudolphthemusical.com – featuring the world’s most famous reindeer and a holly jolly cast of iconic characters. Rudolph and friends, including Hermey the Elf, Yukon Cornelius, and the Abominable Snow Monster, help Santa save Christmas during a tour this holiday season.

Rudolph and friends will visit the Aronoff Center’s Procter & Gamble Hall on Wednesday, December 9 at  6:30 PM. Tickets are on sale Friday, August 28 at 10:00 AM at http://www.CincinnatiArts.org, (513) 621-ARTS (2787), and the Aronoff Center Ticket Office. Rudolph is presented in Cincinnati by 35 Concerts.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical is so faithful to the original show that it practically transports audience members into the television special. The songs drive the plot while familiar and nostalgic set designs, costumes, and characters are brought to stage. The cast brings new energy to the classic songs and dialogue, while puppets help showcase the charming “roughness” from the television show’s stop-motion effects.

The story tells the tale of a young Rudolph who, because of the appearance of his bright, shining nose, is ousted from the reindeer games in Christmas-town. He flees town, meets up with new friends Hermey and Yukon, and a series of funny and endearing adventures ensue including a visit to The Island of Misfit Toys. Rudolph journeys home, where a snowstorm of epic proportions is threatening Christmas. Can Rudolph save his family and friends and help Santa save the holiday?

The productions will also tie in with the #ShineBright social media campaign, which is a celebration of uniqueness that will be championed by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center.  Workshops, lesson plans, and special performances will use the story as a platform for teaching important lessons about diversity and tolerance.

Featuring three world premieres and one Cincinnati premiere

CINCINNATI, OH. THE KAPLAN NEW WORKS SERIES takes the stage in the beautiful and intimate Jarson-Kaplan Theater, at the Aronoff Center, September 11-19. With NEW WORKS’ continual record-breaking attendance, the new location offers access to a larger audience while maintaining the intimacy for which it is well known.

NEW WORKS was founded under the philosophy of fostering the future of ballet and dance. “Ballet today is a duplicitous mistress,” says Victoria Morgan, Artistic Director & CEO. “We don our pointe shoes, which root us to our heroic past, but our minds, determined to express today’s ideas, hurl us into this innovation hub called New Works. This series is the “start-up” engine leading us to a future that we cannot even describe.” The 2015 NEW WORKS program remains loyal to the premise of adventure, featuring three world premieres and one Cincinnati premiere.

Resident Choreographer Adam Hougland presents two works this year, introducing a brand new solo piece, which marks his sixth world premiere for Cincinnati Ballet and the return of All My Favorite People from Cincinnati Ballet & Over the Rhine Live. “Adam’s familiarity with our company dancers has earned him their complete devotion,” says Artistic Director & CEO, Victoria Morgan. In 2011 he created a brand new production of The Firebird specifically for Cincinnati Ballet, and the same year was named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch.” He contributed his talent to a piece in the collaborative performance of Frampton & Cincinnati Ballet Live, which was performed at the Joyce Theater in New York City in 2014, and the full length Mozart’s Requiem performed this past March.

Ma Cong, resident choreographer and dancer at Tulsa Ballet, presents an exciting world premiere during his first time collaborating with Cincinnati Ballet. Cong began his training with the Beijing Dance Academy and has danced the work of acclaimed choreographers of this day, such as Balanchine, Forsythe, Kylián, McMillan and more. As a choreographer, he has been the recipient of several awards and honors from choreographic competitions worldwide. He has choreographed for the major mid-range ballet companies like BalletMet, Richmond Ballet and Smuin Ballet, among others.

Born in Kharkov City, Ukraine, Viktor Plotnikov received his training at the Kiev-Ukraine School and the St. Petersburg Vaganova Ballet Academy. From 1987 to 1990, he was a soloist with Donetsk Ballet Company in the Ukraine. Plotnikov held principal dancer positions at Ballet Mississippi and Tulsa Ballet between 1990 and 1993 before joining Boston Ballet as a principal dancer in 1993, where he performed until 2006. He has danced featured roles in extensive classical and contemporary ballets by many of the major choreographers and has toured extensively in Russia and the U.S. Plotnikov has created a multitude of original works for several world class organizations. These include solos and duets performed at international ballet competitions, with an eclectic musical taste ranging from Brahms to Pink Floyd.

Aside from being an acclaimed choreographer, Gabriel Gaffney Smith is currently a dancer at BalletMet Columbus as well as an accomplished composer. He presents his Cincinnati premiere pas de deux, Detachment Without Reason set to his own original musical composition. Smith composed the music for one of Heather Britt’s pieces, Habitual, which is featured later in the season during Director’s Choice. He has also created musical pieces for BalletMet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Texture Contemporary Ballet and a documentary for Red House Productions. As a dancer, Smith has also performed with River North Jazz Company in Chicago and Hisatomi Yoshiko Ballet in Japan.

NEW WORKS kicks off an exciting new season following the announcement of several promotions within the dancer ranks and the return of former Cincinnati Ballet Principal Dancer, Oğulcan Borova, as official Ballet Master. Borova is originally from Turkey and has won numerous medals in major international ballet competitions. Most recently he was a principal dancer with Joffrey Ballet. Three new dancers join Cincinnati Ballet’s roster: Patric Palkens returns as a Principal Dancer after a year in Europe with Salzburg State Theater Austria Dance. Jonathan Batista, originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, joins as a Soloist. He danced for Miami City Ballet, National Ballet of Canada and Boston Ballet before joining Cincinnati Ballet. Serena Søvdsnes starts as an Apprentice, most recently dancing with Boston Ballet II.

Rodrigo Almarales has been promoted from Senior Soloist to Principal; Courtney Connor Jones has been promoted from Soloist to Senior Soloist; James Gilmer has been promoted from Corps de Ballet to Soloist; Sirui Liu and Abigail Morwood have been promoted from Corps de Ballet to Soloists; Samantha Nagy-Chow and Khris Santos have been promoted from Apprentices to New Dancers; and Taylor Carrasco and Daniel Wagner have been promoted from CBII Dancers to Apprentices for the 15-16 Season.

MEET THE ARTISTS Cincinnati Ballet is pleased to offer Meet the Artists, a pre-performance discussion series where you will have the opportunity to meet select dancers, choreographers and members of the creative team who bring New Works to life. Cincinnati Shakespeare Opens the 2015-2016 Season with the Epic Romantic Comedy, CYRANO DE BERGERAC!

Cincinnati Shakespeare’s 2015-2016 season officially opens with this dazzling epic romance!

Caitlin McWethy as Roxane and Jeremy Dubin as Cyrano. By Mikki Schaffner Photography.

Cincinnati, OH, August 19, 2015- Cincinnati Shakespeare Company officially opens their 2015-2016 mainstage season with the epic, dazzling, romantic comedy “Cyrano de Bergerac” based on the translation written by Anthony Burgess of the play written by Edmond Rostand playing September 11- October 3, 2015.  This production is directed by CSC Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips and features Cincinnati Shakespeare Resident Ensemble members Jeremy Dubin and Caitlin McWethy. The costume design for “Cyrano de Bergerac” is generously sponsored by 1919 Investment Counsel and Frost Brown Todd.

Cyrano (Jeremy Dubin) is a man of panache- a dazzling swordsman and a brilliant poet with a wit as quick as his blade. When he falls in love with the beautiful and brilliant Roxane (Caitlin McWethy), there is only one thing that stands between them- his gargantuan nose. When Roxane unknowingly confides in Cyrano that she is smitten with the handsome, but dimwitted solider Christian, Cyrano cannot resist the opportunity to finally speak his heart — through letters and verses signed under Christian’s name. His words have Roxanne swooning, but who is it that she truly loves and how long can Cyrano remain in the shadows? The witty wordplay of Wilde, the swashbuckling swagger of “The Three Musketeers”, and the unrivaled romanticism of “Romeo and Juliet” are all right under your nose in “Cyrano de Bergerac.”

Performances of “Cyrano de Bergerac” are scheduled from September 11- October 3, 2015 on Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm.  There is no performance on Sunday Sep. 13.  Preview performances are on Wednesday Sep. 9 and Thursday Sep. 10 at 7:30pm and tickets are $25.

The theater is located at 719 Race Street, downtown Cincinnati, two blocks west of the Aronoff Center.  Single ticket prices range from $22-$35 on Thursdays and Sundays and from $26-$39 on Fridays and Saturdays.  Previews are $25.  If available, $14 student rush tickets may be purchased 30 minutes before a show with a valid student ID.  This production is a part of this season’s subscription package. Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.  Ticketing fees may apply.  Discounts are available for students, seniors and groups as well as AAA members.  To purchase tickets or for more information, call the CSC Box Office at 513.381.BARD (2273) ext. 1, or go online at www.cincyshakes.com.

SILENCE! The Musical Premieres Sept. 25

A TASTY TREAT! VIVACIOUSLY VULGAR… WICKEDLY SATIRICAL… GLEEFULLY SUBVERSIVE. A hell of a lot funnier than it has a right to be — New York Post

A hilarious takedown! Makes those naughty ditties in The Book of Mormon seem like trunk songs dropped from The Sound of Music”- The New York Times

FT_logoFalcon Theatre is proud to open its season with the regional premiere of SILENCE! The Musical. This hilarious, raunchy satire takes everything you love in the classic horror film “Silence of the Lambs” and skewers it like a shish kebab.

Rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling matches wits with the brilliant but insane cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, in order to catch the serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. Clarice faces her own demons while racing the clock to unlock Lecter’s clues before another innocent girl is killed and skinned by Buffalo Bill.

This laugh-out-loud naughty satire features a singing chorus of floppy eared lambs narrating the action as Buffalo Bill gleefully dances a hoedown while kidnapping hapless Catherine Martin. Even Dr. Lecter, scary as ever, sings about the life he’d like to lead someday outside the prison walls.

Fueled by a rabid cult following since the songs debuted online in 2002, SILENCE! was expanded into a live stage show and shattered every box-office record at the 2005 FringeNYC Festival. Winner of the NYCFringe’s Best Musical Award, SILENCE! The Musical combines whip-smart dialogue and shocking songs to make a musical parody of The Silence of the Lambs that’s sure to be popular with seasoned fans of the movie and FBI rookies alike.
