CINCINNATI, OHIO (April 24, 2018) Coming to the Cincinnati Fringe Festival this June is ExTrashVaganza!, a brand new 60-minute musical comedy for adults full of strange stories and even stranger puppets.

A single mannequin leg and a fedora become a pun-slinging noir detective. An accidentally broken lamp becomes the star of a sit-com parody about a couple who never meant to become parents.

Go ahead and leave the kids at home for this two-person variety show!

Paul Strickland and Erika Kate MacDonald, the winners of the past two Critics’ Picks of the Fringe Awards (2016 and 2017), have teamed up to make what they call a “strange-sational” musical puppet comedy.

CINCINNATI, May 3, 2018 – Cincinnati Shakespeare Company closes their Debut Season at The Otto M. Budig Theater with Noises Off, by Michael Frayn. The production is directed by Ed Stern, the former Artistic Director of the Playhouse in the Park, The cast features CSC’s Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips, as well as Dale Hodges, Joneal Joplin, Jeremy Dubin, Kelly Mengelkoch, Justin McCombs, and Brooke Steele. This show is generously sponsored by Towne Properties in memory of Lambert Agin, Messer Construction, and Thompson Hine.

The drama onstage is nothing compared to the drama backstage in this hysterical, fast-paced British sex farce about putting on a hysterical, fast-paced British sex farce. Lines, props, and pants are dropped in equal measure as long-suffering director Lloyd (Brian Isaac Phillips) struggles valiantly to keep his company’s production from going totally off the rails, despite fizzling romances, desperate rivalries, and constant befuddlement among the cast.

Producing Artistic Director Brian Isaac Phillips, who will appear in the cast of Noises Off, says of this production: “I’ve wanted to do this play since I started as Artistic Director here, because it’s one of the funniest plays – if not the funniest play – ever written. It requires a very particular kind of staging, and we just didn’t have the space for it before we moved into the new theater. This is going to be a great example of the kinds of shows we can put on this new stage. If you want to squeal with laughter and delight – and who doesn’t want to squeal with laughter and delight? – this is the show to see. And, of course, I’m so excited to play with this exceptionally talented group of people.”

Director Ed Stern makes his Cincinnati Shakespeare Company debut with Noises Off. He is well-known for his twenty-year tenure as Producing Artistic Director of Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. While there he directed such diverse plays as OthelloGod of CarnageSweeney ToddMuch Ado About NothingOf Mice and Men, and numerous others. Under his leadership the Playhouse received two Tony Awards: Regional Theatre of the Year and Best Musical Revival (Stephen Sondheim’s Company). He has directed in regional theatres across the country, including the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Great Lakes Theatre Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and others. In the seventies he co-founded Indiana Repertory Theatre.

Noises Off runs May 18 – June 9 with performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM, as well as Saturday June 9 at 2:00 PM.  Preview performances are May 16 and 17 at 7:30 PM.

Loveland Stage Company Presents DON’T DRINK THE WATER

LSC_Dont Drink the Water logoThe Loveland Stage Company unleashes the comedy play Don’t Drink the Water on May 11, 2018.  Veteran actor John Sloan is marking his second time as a director.  John made his directorial debut in the spring of 2017 with the hilariously successful A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.  His producers are ACT award winner Tom Cavano and veteran actor Jill Gornet, his mother.

Don’t Drink the Water is a farce with the classical elements of mistaken identities, mayhem, and misadventure.  The story takes place inside an American embassy behind the Iron Curtain in the 1960’s.  American tourists, Walter Hollander, his wife Marion, and their adult daughter Susan rush into the embassy two steps ahead of the communist police. They suspect the Hollanders of spying while picture-taking in a restricted area.   Alas, the embassy is provisionally being run by the ambassador’s charming but bumbling son, Axel Magee. Axel, along with embassy staff and guests, manages to prolong the Hollanders’ asylum by muddling everything.  Amid the insanity, will the Hollander family ever be able to escape?

Don’t Drink the Water, written by playwright and comedian, Woody Allen, opened in 1966, at the Morosco Theatre in New York City and ran for 598 performances. Shortly after opening, the New York Daily News wrote that Don’t Drink the Water “moved the audience to great laughter … Allen’s imagination is daffy, his sense of the ridiculous is keen and gags snap, crackle and pop.”

The Loveland Stage Company cast stars Joel Lind as Walter, Cathy Alter as Marion, Morgan Carter as Susan and Alex Ross as Axel. The cast also features Tom Caruso, Becky Cole, Vincent Eldridge, Gary Giver, Christopher Koonce, Matt Lovell, Charlie Rader, and Pia Rader.

Don’t miss this extremely funny farce.  You will laugh from the curtain opening to the cast bows. Tickets are available for evening performances at 7:30 pm on May 11, 12, 18, and 19 and matinee performances at 3:00 pm on May 13 and 20.  To order tickets, please visit our website at www.lovelandstagecompany.org.  All performances are held at the Loveland Stage Company Theater, 111 South Second Street, Loveland, Ohio 45140.

THE STING Closes Out TDW’s 2017-2018 Season in Style

TDW_The Sting

Johnny Hooker (Nathan Henegar), Billie (Amanda Borchers), and Henry Gondorf (Chris Bishop) join forces to take revenge on a ruthless gangster in THE STING. Photo by Tammy Cassesa.

(Cheviot, Ohio) The Drama Workshop is proud to present its stage adaptation of the classic movie ‘The Sting’ to close out its 2017-2018 season. This edge-of-your-seat story of ‘The Big Con’ opens May 4th and runs through May 20th.

Shows are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm, and Sunday afternoons at 2 pm. Because of anticipated ticket demand, a special performance has been added for Thursday, May 17th, at 7:30 pm. All performances are at The Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave in Cheviot.

The excitement, maneuvers and comedy of the Paul Newman/Robert Redford screen triumph have been brilliantly adapted for stage production – in 1936 Chicago, small-time grifter Johnny Hooker joins forces with master con man Henry Gondorf to exact revenge on a powerful racketeer. The explosive excitement will have the audience guessing and gasping as it builds to the final con movement.

This is, by far, the largest cast ever to be seen at The Drama Workshop and includes both veteran TDW performers as well as newcomers to the Cheviot stage. Headlining the cast are Chris Bishop as Henry Gondorf, Nathan Henegar as Johnny Hooker, and Kevin Noll as Doyle Lonnegan. The rest of the cast includes Valeria Amburgey, Whitney Ball, Dan Bathe, Erica Beimesche, Meagan Blasch, Amanda Borchers, Clint Bramkamp, Trisha Cooper, Adam Drake, Gretchen Gantner, Neil Geoppinger, Julie Jordan, Cathy Judge, Ben Lacy, Camron Lacy, Ray Lebowski, Burt McCollom, Russ McGee, Mark Miller, Kaitlyn Moss, Gail Nixon, Ray Persing, Bill Rinehart, Erin Marie Schwartz, Kent Smith, Michael Urriquia, Jim Waldfogle, Lee Anne Waldfogle, Joe Ward, Matt Wick, Jack Williams, and Mike Williams.

The production crew is headed by director Fred Hunt, producer Elaine Volker, and stage manager Tobie Braverman. The technical team features some of the top talent in greater Cincinnati, including Eric Bardes, Jason Cox, Gretchen Gantner, John Netzley, and Greg Schaper.

Amanda Borchers plays Billie, the role made famous by Eileen Brennan in the 1975 film. “Audiences will enjoy The Sting for the same reasons depression- era Americans fell in love with outlaws,” she said. “Within the context of 1930s Chicago, Gondorf and Hooker are modern day Robin Hoods. The characters are engaging and their motivations are oddly pure for a group of gangsters: survival and justice for a fallen friend.”

TDW newcomer Erica Beimesche echoed those sentiments. “The show pays homage to the movie, if you’re familiar with it, but it’s different enough to be exciting to newbies and old fans alike. The cast puts their own twist on each role and brings a fresh energy to a classic story.”

Tickets for ‘The Sting’ are $18, and can be obtained by calling The Drama Workshop’s 24/7 ticket line at 513.598.8303, or by ordering online at www.thedramaworkshop.org. Seating is limited, and purchasing your tickets in advance is strongly encouraged.
